New York Feng Shui and Real Estate: What about Foreclosures?
I received this email the other day from a person and thought I'd share it. Please NOTE: The opinions here are only MY OWN. I do know that many Feng Shui Consultants advise AGAINST purchasing Foreclosures. I have a different perspective.
Hi,
I have a question I was hoping you would answer. My husband and I would like to buy a home that is a foreclosure. I've read that in Feng Shui you should not purchase these homes because they would carry bad energy and you would be unlucky in them.
Is this true?
Donna

Greetings, Donna,
I appreciate your question and I do know that many Feng Shui Practitioners believe that Foreclosures would not be a wise choice in purchasing a home. I have a somewhat different perspective to share.
As a Feng Shui Consultant in New York I have seen both Homes and Businesses that would not be advisable to purchase from a Feng Shui Perspective. Sometimes there is a bathroom in the "WEALTH" area or sometimes an area (gua) is missing completely.
We all do believe the ENERGY left in a home (known as Predecessor Energy) can become "stuck" and stay with the new occupants. Foreclosures are often left under sad circumstances and their may be grief or arguments left behind. This can also occur in ANY home you are looking to buy.

We also think about the Energy of the land on which the home is built and often don't know the history. In my OWN OPINION, I believe that if you truly love a space, it can overcome any negative energy. I have seen people flourish in homes that they had been advised not to buy.
Your own energy is very strong. What I would recommend is to buy a home you absolutely LOVE and you can have it blessed or cleared prior to moving in. You can do this yourself, call someone from your church or contact a Feng Shui Consultant. You are then removing any Energy left behind in the home and on the land-and have ended up with a wonderful bargain in the process.
Never be afraid to purchase a Home or Business that you truly love. A qualified Feng Shui Consultant can always make a space work FOR you, not AGAINST you.

Blessings to you,
Carole

Wow, you never fail to surprise me Carole. What a unique question Donna had! I've felt bad energy in houses and so have clients. But I've never thought about foreclosures and what energy they might have. Guess I'll have to pay more attention when out looking at properties.
Hi Carole...again great advice for us all, Good energy is just that good energy, which comes from good feeling and positive thinking.
Cheers, thanks for sharing your story.
Glad you talked about this Carole. I have wondered about foreclosures but never took the time to ask. Now I know! :)
hi Carole -- nice post. of course I happen to agree with you too. :-) that you can have negative energy in any home, not just in a foreclosure --and that there are remedies. love the advice - about loving a home.
Carole I can't get over the change in your Blog - its amazing! I so love your photo - so love the backdrop, the presentation and content of your post - Fantastico! mwah! :-)
Carole... I never thought about this and how you could help so many foreclosures sell... I agree with some of your statements about the negativity, but your best come back is that this could be in any house. Don't get me started, but I hate when people start thinking like this and pick and choose where they think negativity could occur. Again, your answer is priceless and uses common sense also.
Overall.... your statement...."buy the house you love" That should be the bottom line... stop thinking of the whats, ifs, maybes, etc, etc.
Carole - You've just taken a negative and turned it into a positive for anyone who had concerns about bad energy when buying a foreclosure. Your advice to Donna was wonderful and insightful. I have to echo Liz's comment about your blog. I love it and the new you! (photo) :)
What a perfect response you gave, Carole! You are absolutely correct...we don't really know the history of any home that a client is considering. I always tell my buyers that they will know when they find the right house, because it will "talk" to them. That love of a home can overcome any negativity in the past, IMO.
I am glad you sit on that side of the fence Carole...I didn't want to have to disagree with you:)
Carole~ I think your advice was priceless! I am sure as with any home, there can be energy that needs to be cleared or adjustments that need to be made! Most people I come in contact with, have some sort of negativity or challenge - so people would be missing a lot of opportunities if they simply wrote of all homes because of "X"! A very nice inspirational post.
I'm not a Feng Shui consultant (and I never played one in a movie) but it sure sounds like you gave Donna sone wonderful advice. I have always believed that positive energy overcomes negative - always. I'm sure she appreciated your response, as well. We should never deny ourselves something that we truly want just because there has been unhappiness in its' past. If we all did that, then ... we would never go anywhere or do anything.
Carole this is very true not only from a Feng Shui prerspective but also in the brick and mortar aspects of home condition at purchase. I think you can work with anything as long as you are prepared for the time, effort, and expense. Foreclosures are not for every buyer but any buyer who can see past the condition to the potential can fix anything.
Carole,
Your wisdom and advice is priceless. It is so very true that we very seldom know the history of most houses and what occurred there. Love it and nurture it and it will bring you pleasure.
Excellent advice, Carole! In the current real estate venue, many properties listed have sad stories- if a buyer brings in enough good energy (with your help, of course!) their purchase of a home that they love will be evident, with a cared for, loved home replacing a neglected, sad property.
Hi Carole - we purchased a foreclosure about five years ago and had these same concerns. I agree that the occupant's energy is so important in any home.
Carole--It is practitioners like yourself that convince non-believers that maybe there is something to Feng Shui. Some people shy away from beliefs that say NEVER do something...such as buying a foreclosure home when it really can make financial sense to others. You certainly know that Feng Shui is a way to make your world better...no matter what the current situation is. You have made a believer out of me and gave wonderful advice to the potential foreclosure buyers. Good job!
Excellent angle Carole ! This is terrific advice for people savvy to Feng Shui and considering a foreclosure property. Well done :o)
Dena, I get asked that question quite often. Many other Feng Shui Consultants do not recommend it but I've seen people do well in homes and businesses over the years that has "BAD Feng Shui." Our job is to fix it so it supports our clients.
Fred, It really is and I do believe ANY home can have Good Energy!
Debbie, Especially with all the foreclosures, more and more people are asking. I truly believe you will do well in any place you love.
Alexsandra, It's very true, people often don't know about former owners and certainly not what's gone on the land. Remedies are inexpensive and people truly do flourish.
Liz, I love it, too and it's all Marti's work....He's got an incredibly distinctive style and really did a gorgeous job.
Jeff, I had one client call me who had visited a home SEVENTEEN Times....worried about the Feng Shui. Clearly she loved it and because she was so worried, reviewed photos and encouraged her to buy it. She did and she loves it. There are so many Feng Shui "scares" but I've seen love overcome every one of them.
Donna, We never really know what happened in a home, foreclosure or not...or what may have happened on the land. There are some amazing buys out there--and Feng Shui remedies that cost almost nothing for any issues we may find.
Lisa, Your opinion is mine as well. I also do believe that your home often chooses you. You are drawn back to it even though it may not have had your "qualifications." Because you fell in love.
Bill, There are some pretty popular books out that say to avoid foreclosures. I do understand the reasons but I've been doing this so long I have to disagree. I am not at all suprised anymore at homes that perfectly support their clients--I've seen it over and over.
Joan, Years ago I wrote an Article called The Feng Shui FEAR FACTOR. Things about FS were becoming so frightening....We are not supposed to be frightening people out of a home they love, we are supposed to adjust it so they thrive.
Carol, I NEVER miss a good Feng Shui Movie and I'm sure that was YOU. Playing the Good Feng Shui Fairy of the North :) Or maybe it was a Realtor movie I caught you in..........hmmmm :)
Paddy, I agree Foreclosures are not for everyone but I left the other issues to the Realtors. I don't want people, from a Feng Shui Perspective, to be afraid to purchase one.
Cynthia, You are so right. When a new home or business is cleared, it opens the way for all new, wonderful energy to enter. It's simple and people can do it themselves (and it makes sense to me).
Laurie, Some people are missing some incredible buys. Slowly FEAR came into the aspect of Feng Shui (It wasn't there when I started) and I don't like people being afraid to purchase a home or a business they love....it WILL work!
Kevin and Monica, Thank you for the re-blog! You purchased a foreclosure and don't seem to be suffering any ill effects--in fact, the opposite. Thank you for coming on from someone who's "been there" !
Teri, Thank you! Feng Shui to me is really common sense and when you understand the principles, it makes sense. And "adjustments" are NOT expensive which is another thing many people are concerned with.
Sheldon, I know I've been asked this question more and more often. Btw, I put in a word to get your towels back asap.....so you'd have something to wear at Target!
Thank you, Carole. I am sure that many home buyers wonder about this, but not always ask the question of a COMPETENT PROFESSIONAL, such as YOU. :)
I love your answer! You always bring such a great perspective to things. Hope all is well!
Your advise shows you are a true professional Carole and such a positive influence on everyone! May more people on the planet be like you!
Marzena, Too many people have been frighted to buy foreclosures I'm sorry to say.
Crystal, Thank you, things are getting back to normal around here :)
Eric, That is the worst spam I've ever seen. Since I don't have a delete button, I'm going to report this to AR who will remove the spam--and you perhaps.
Cathy, I think it's a shame people have been discouraged from buying them....I hope this helps someone who has been wondering.
Great answer, Carole.
It took me forever to scroll down here due to Eric's spam. I agree, that is the worst spam I've ever seen, too. However, you do have a delete button. It's in the same place as it has always been except that now it is a mouse over. Put your mouse near the time at the bottom right hand corner of Eric's post. Since this is your blog, you should see "Report a Concern" and "Delete" show up in red. Make use of them.
Cathy, Thank you. I know people have been put off for Feng Shui reasons from buying a foreclosed home but we don't truly know the energy of any home.
Hi Russel, I looked for one because I'd read on AR it was still here but I don't use Firefox (which I believe you need). I also personally believe that person should be banished....I emailed AR so they can do what they think they should with regard to it. It's a terrible thing to do! I guess I will have to install Firefox or try another browser, AOL does not give me a delete button :( Thank you for your help and advice.
My apologies to everyone for that long blog. I only ment for one cut and paste to show about buying a house. I have removed and I'm sorry. I will remove myself from this site.
Eric, AR does not allow cut and pastes, either. Perhaps you should read the rules first.
