Feng Shui New York--The BEDROOM

Feng Shui in New York- BEDROOMS and Interior Design

As a Feng Shui practitioner in Manhattan and Long Island, I love seeing the different spaces in both apartments and homes.  It's interesting that many of the Principles of Feng Shui do NOT go along with the principles of Interior Design and it's also interesting to me that more Interior Designers, Decorators and Home Stagers are more interested In Feng Shui then ever before. The differences we share are often in BEDROOMS.

This room in Smithtown  Long Island in New York was in a spacious, three bedroom home.  It was furnished by an Interior Design student who was looking for love (among some other issues).  In Interior design you are taught to think in ODD numbers---threes or fives for example.

In Feng Shui, particularly in the bedroom and partnership areas, we are thought to think in TWOS.  Two people, two statues, two candles as twos signify a partnership and three, well, is a crowd!  We don't want to bring a third person into our relationship.

Bedroom Feng Shui by Feng Shui Long Island & New YorkA Lovely Bedroom--Without Feng Shui Principles

We also think in the color PINK for romance.  While this doesn't mean you have to paint your entire room pink, throw pillows, candles and flowers can be added to almost any color scheme to represent pink.

We also need to allow someone to come into our life by creating room for new energy-and a new person.  Having one side of a bed up against the wall goes against Feng Shui principles for this very reason...there is no ROOM for a new person.  In Feng Shui and Bedrooms in particular, we need BALANCE, something this room is lacking. Cleaning out one drawer and part of your closet (it likely needs it anyway) is also a good decision.

As a Feng Shui Consultant, we also want to see our clients "backed-up" in life....and in their bedrooms and offices.  A solid headboard (wood is best so it doesn't pick up any EMF's) is recommended.  And choose your artwork carefully.

Back to our bedroom in Feng Shui.  This is a lovely room but NOT a room that employs Feng Shui principles.  It's not uncommon for me to see a light go off in one of my client's when they have been taught SO differently but are able to understand WHY Feng Shui Consultants view things the way they do---and they're off to make some changes!

*If you've read this long, one more piece of advice.  We are looking for a PARTNER, not a power play situation...keeps your "twos" in the SAME SIZE : )

I can see Carole how the three can get the two out of balance. Even thinking of a baby, you don't want the child in the Master Bedroom. Very good thoughts from the Feng Shui perspective.

Carole- I have all in two's in our bedroom. Feet facing the right direction when sleeping, door in the right place, etc. Always a work in progress too.

Carole,

This is very fascinating....so many things to think about when it comes to energy flow and attracting that which a person is hoping for in their life.

You, my dear friend, are just a wealth of information!  You can bet I will be paying close attention to all this when we move into our new digs.

Thanks for sharing YOU with all of US.

Tea for two! Isn't that how the song goes?  I definitely believe in the FS principles. I have seen them work in my life when I was not a believer.

I have always been the person to do everything in 3's.  Very interesting points on the bedroom.

Hi Carole, I never realized that Feng Shui and Interior design were so opposite.  Do you do interior design too?  Seems tough to make it all work!

Carole- I am sure you are making a lot of us check our bedrooms for balance and harmony. This is an enlightening post. Very interesting!

Wonderful information as usual Carole.  BTW, my eyes did tricks again and I saw Princesses of Feng Shui rather than Principles of Feng Shui.  I think there may be something in that, you are truly a Princess of your chosen profession.

So if I do NOT want a partner I should put my bed against the wall?  Dang, mine is open & there is space PLUS I always place things in twos, I have a thing about it.  I like being single.  : (

Very informative, as always, I am learning so much from you!  Thank you,

Hello Carole,

I think my bedroom needs some work! Is red okay?

Gary, You're exactly right--no children or pets or family photos in the bedroom, it is a couples sacred space.  Wow, you're good!!

Katerina, I don't doubt that you have the best Feng Shui all through your home...I could see it from your home-office which is wonderful!

Jo, Interior Decorating is lovely but it's funny that I often teach a class for them...and sure enough someone will say "This just makes sense :)!

Lizette, Bedrooms often need adjustments as things change....it's a good time to make it with fall here.

Carol, I hope you'll send me some shots of your new home---and know you are looking forward to the move--and warmer weather and wish you all the blessings to go with it!

Gayle, It is Tea for Two, I remember people tap dancing to it :)!  And a bedroom for two makes good sense.

Chastity, We want to think in PAIRS....Couples and partnerships which is why we leave out the third object---and keep them all equal size.

Cristal, No, I'm not an Interior Designer but the school I attended for Feng Shui teaches that.  And when I go back to teach there most of the students are Interior Design students who want to add another dimension--which will help them in the years to come.

Eloise, As the energies outside change it's a good idea to review our insides.  We are transitioning to colder months--here anyway :)  But it's always a good idea to seek balance in all things.

Paddy, You scared me for a second, I thought I had a typo there!  Thank you for the lovely new name, I think I'll keep it if you don't mind!

Chris, If you don't want a partner keep it with no room for one to get in--which does NOT mean you are allowed to clutter it!  But even pushing it against the wall, you will lose the balance which you DO want!

Trace, They used to say you cannot have red in the bedroom, that you wouldn't sleep because it is a stimulating color---I believe the lights are out so the color won't effect you while sleeping and I can't think of a better element to add in the bedroom then FIRE--red.  That's my opinion........

It was really cool reading that......I went through my bedroom in my mind - and without even knowing these principles I could check off right next to everyone of those suggestions! I'm actually proud of myself!  So now...why don't I have a partner? lol

Geez Carole - You're going to have my whole house in shape.  : )  I am a libra so I do want balance.  I will continue on my un-cluttering quest thanks to Feng Shui Long Island!

Carole, I'm so glad I subsribed to your blog. I love this type of info.

I've seen a master bedroom recently painted lilac with pink carpet & a small ornate full size bed. I just thought it looked like a little girls room, no room for the man. Was I wrong, is pink romantic?

I can't imagine stopping right in the middle of your consultation.   I think the person will be calling you back when the energy ceases to flow.

Liz, There's more to it then that--a LOT more but too much to put in one post.  Maybe we should have a "Feng Shui for Singles" --  Those who don't want to be, anyway :)

Chris, It's a good time for cleaning out--unlike spring cleaning this time is for a different reason.  Keep at it!

Linda, The color pink is associated with romance; while you don't have to paint the whole room if you aren't fond of the color, you do need to incorporate the color in bedrooms if you want a partner and in other Partnership areas of your home to intensify it.

Joan, That was on a different post :) but it's true, I'm sorry they didn't continue.  I am concerned the good fortune that was coming their way won't either.
