What a New York Feng Shui Consultant MIGHT Recommend....by Feng Shui Long Island & New York

During a Feng Shui Consultation in New York my clients often want to purchase items that are considered auspicious for one reason or another in Feng Shui.  The Chinese and many other cultures have symbols they consider important to acknowledge or are considered lucky and while no ones home needs to end up looking like a Chinese Restaurant, I thought I would share some of my favorite items.  Some of these things I use personally during a Feng Shui Consultation and I also use them in my own home.  Please see the note at the bottom :)

*Please note:  These pictures are from a site I have used for years and recommend to my clients.  They have been in existence since 1996 and still offer the same high quality items at reasonable prices.  It is called The Feng Shui Emporium and you'll find a comprehensive list of items you might also enjoy.  These pictures are used with permission and you may visit their site at http://www.FengShuiEmporium.com

Bell in Feng Shui

I love to use Bells in Feng Shui.  We alternate SOUND with Sage depending on the Space Clearing we are seeking.  The sound from these bells gets the Energy moving again and clears out any negative Energy lingering in a space.

In the Black Sect of Feng Shui, Bells are considered to "Ring in the Money."  They are often placed in a Wealth area in your home or on your desk.

WindChimes

I also LOVE the sound of Windchimes.  In Feng Shui we use them both outdoors and inside the home.  They can help keep the energy "moving" so that areas outside and in don't become stagnant.  Since Energy can "pool" in corners, they are often used inside the home in corners---outside we use them as "cures" for different reasons.

Money Frog

The Feng Shui Emporium calls them Lucky Frogs.  We were taught they are Money Frogs as they sit on coins and hold a coin in their mouth to attract money.  Here's where some Feng Shui Consultants differ:

We were taught they should be FACING the Front Door (the Mouth of Chi) to DRAW THE MONEY IN.  *Some suggest two Frogs, one to draw the money IN, the other to KEEP it IN :)

Lucky Cat

You'll see these Lucky Cats in just about EVERY Chinese business you will pass...and in most homes as well.  I used to think they were cute BUT IMO, They Work!  I got my first Lucky Cat with Val who actually wrote about it.  Some have paws that wave and run on batteries.  I don't believe it was any "coincidence" that BOTH Val and I got several jobs the very next day!

Feng Shui Crystals

Probably the one Item I am most likely to suggest.  Crystals come from the Earth and are believed to diffuse Energy or help keep it moving.  They also provide Clarity and some use a small crystal next to their computer to help them work faster and more effectively.

Hallways and near windows are also places we sometimes hang crystals.

Water Fountains

I personally love water fountains.  They help to get an area MOVING.  I also love the sound of the gentle water trickling down and find it soothing and relaxing.

There are many different kinds of fountains....some directs the water a certain way and some that are battery operated so small to use on a desk.

These are beautiful with the sound not only of water but bells as well.

Bagua MirrorMost commonly placed above the front door facing OUT to help deflect any negative energy away including large buildings, fast moving traffic and sometimes troublesome neighbors.

***Clearly I need help here!  I edited these pictures twice, they are all set to LEFT and they keep coming out this way....does anyone know WHY?

This is very useful information. I was aware of the lucky cat and the money frogs but not the other items. I love the sound of windchimes, though I have never thought to use them inside.

Hey Carole: I have this at my front door and in the middle is a mirror that spins....the guy told me to deflect good stuff in (my desk chair back is faced to this door....) and bad stuff to stay out...does that sound right?

Great info. I keep telling myself I need to take a class in this. I find it very interesting!

The crystals I had heard of before, but not the meaning behind the others.  Perhaps it's time to purchase a bell?

Loved your description and explanations!

I love to read about Frng Shui. What kind of wind chimes are best?

No clue, Carole on the photo's not lining up. One day during makevover2takeover, the same thing happened to Kim and I. I assume just a clitch.

Carole,
The pictures and descriptions of items in this post are fascinating! I've never heard of a 'lucky cat' before, however it's very intriguing that both you and Val received several jobs the following day.

One of these times I'll tell you the story about the chimes I had hung inside a house that I once owned and the ghost who decided to use them to make his presence known. It was one of the most frightening experiences I've ever had.

Now I know where to get a couple of those crystals!  Thanks!

As usual you have provided intriguing information coupled with clear and concise explanations.  How do you do that all the time?  :))

Interesting as always Carole.  Don't ask me about pictures and placement.  If you had a chance to look at my post on the Reenactment this morning you will see I am no better at it.  Have a great day.

Good Morning Carole,
I have the bells, wind chimes and will be putting crystals next to my computer today.  But the frog and cat, where do we find these?  You are a wealth of information.

Carole ~ Thanks for sharing this!  I have bookmarked this post, because I know it is something I will refer back to often.  I may be getting two of those frogs - with two in college I need the money coming in and staying in! : )  I'm thinking I might get the cat, too.  Do you have to put it in a specific area?  For business luck would I put in where I conduct my business in my home?

Well, some new items for my next shopping trip! But I STILL have the back door facing the front door- every time I notice it, I see imaginary dollar bills flying in...and right back out! I need a frog at each door, for sure.

Posted by Laurie Mindnich at Options Realty over 3 years ago

Hey  Carole!  Now you're speaking MY language!  You know that I love tangible symbols to help attract positive energy and manifest good things into my life!  It's about time for another one of our 'shopping trips' and you know where I want to go this time (certainly not Flushing again - it was way too crowded and scary!  I felt like a 'foreigner' in my own backyard!).

I'm comfortably seated in a chair with my laptop on my lap, so I don't want to get up and look (in my Wealth area), but didn't you and I get the Money Frogs with the second frog on it's back and the pretty Chinese coin with the ruby in the middle in its mouth?

KATHY - I have a small Lucky Cat who waves in the money (powered by any kind of light - he came from Japan) in the Wealth area of my desk.  I also have a red envelope with coins in it next to him that has a 'weight' on top to "hold the money in"...isn't that the reason Carole?

Hey Carole - You might need to do a post just on the subject of bringing in money...I know that I get confused by some of this...

Rich, They look very nice inside homes as well.  I use the longer ones in corners at times and buy the 2" ones to break up my rooms in the house because of the open floor plan.

Sally, I love it, as long as you can hear the bells.  I don't use mirrored balls, I use crystals but it would seem they would both do the same thing and I bet it looks wonderful--it does sound right to me.

Sherry, The more you learn the more I believe you will see Feng Shui makes sense.  It somehow got a weird reputation but the principles of Feng Shui make perfect sense to me.

Kris, Bells on the front door (from BTB Feng Shui) mean Ringing in the Money.  I remember all the Mom & Pop stores we had on Long Island who used bells to announce when someone would come or go....come to think of it, they did pretty good :)

Gita, I like the colorful ones and the metal ones.  For some reason I just don't enjoy the sound of Bamboo ones.  But good quality ones SOUND good and that's what you'll enjoy!

Missy, It happened twice now and tonight I had a problem again :(  My photos didn't look nice like that, they are rearranging themselves :(

Jo, It's really true, when my Lucky Cat runs out on batteries, things get slow.  I leave it up to my clients but I do tell them what happened with both Val and I!  As for the windchimes ringing, it would unnerve me as well,  I haven't had that happen (thankfully).

Carol, You are so sweet!  Feng Shui is SO misunderstood and people think it's mystical ... it makes sense to me and while some don't like that I break it down to the basics it's the best way to learn it--and I hope inspire people to try it.

Elizabeth, The sounds are lovely for me too.  I have a giant "waterfall" in my living room and I absolutely love it.  GBU

Paddy, Your pictures were beautiful!  They look wonderful, I think you did a fantastic job.  I am putting Left on all of mine to just line them up and they're moving--what is that?

Cynthia, You can find them at the link in my post, The Feng Shui Emporium.  And they also give explanations on their items.  If you're using a crystal on your computer,  make it small--no more then 20 mm.

Kathy, Val put her lucky cat (I think she originally had it) facing the computer--most often they are waing the money in from the FRONT DOOR (which is where mine is).  Then again, you have to USE your front door---think about your Funky Feng Shui post :)

Laurie, Stop worring about that, that's what we use a crystal for or a suncatcher or even a plant on the floor---hey, you have OPTIONS!!

Val, Didn't you orginally put the cat facing your computer?  I wouldn't be holding down the money just yet, take the weight off---not until it's exactly where you want it.  Not another money post, I have to save some things for the book!  And could you please ask Kathy to use her front door??

Posted by Laura Cerrano and Carole Provenzale Owner, Feng Shui Long Island & New York (Feng Shui Long Island & New York City/Feng Shui Manhattan ) over 3 years ago

Carole ~ The sad thing is, after your last scolding suggestion to use the front door, we found bees were flying around.  There is a nest right above the front door!!  My husband had sprayed twice (with the 20 foot wasp/bee killer) and even yesterday I went to get a package left by the door and "something" came after me.

I feel like there is something keeping me from using it.  I did use it for a good two weeks before this, too.  I will ask him to spray again this weekend.

Val ~ Thanks for the info on the cat!

Hi Carole,

Thanks for the information, I know I will be picking up a few of these items!

Posted by Trace Galle (Designs by Trace) over 3 years ago

Kathy, I'm sorry, I thought the bees would  be long gone by now...I do remember reading that you had them.  I hope they're gone now, they seem to be all over the place as I had several nests as well.....and my son got stung so many times getting rid of them for me :(

Trace, I happen to like them and so do most of my clients.  They are not a necessity, just what we sometimes recommend in Feng Shui.

Carole, I also love bells...I have quite a few hanging outside, from lamps, etc. My dog always rang a bell I hung low near the back door when he wanted to go outside... this blog makes me want to shop! :-)

Mara, I love them too!  I use them indoors and out to adress empty corners (they sound when the windows are open) and I love fountains (the sounds of the water!).  And believe me, I shop :)

I was so busy making notes I almost forgot to comment!  I'm thinking I should be going to Chinatown and picking up some of these crystals, bells and frogs.....I need all the help I can get! :-)

Posted by Liz Moras ~ Chilliwack Realtor, Garrison Crossing,Chilliwack, Abbotsford (Harrison Hot Springs, Cultus Lake) over 3 years ago

Hey Carole! Some great resources! I think I'm going to get some bells - I like the idea of the alternate clearing. I have created marvelous shift since the winter solstice, through Chinese New Year, not even doing it all correctly nor completely, with many manifestations.......

all as a result of intention!!!! Wahoo!!!

A question. If one has difficult neighbors at the back door, would you also use a bagua there?

Cheers!

Posted by Deborah Pearce (Styling, Staging, Sales and Business. ) over 3 years ago

Liz, I am in Chinatown here often...I really enjoy it and see such surprise on some of the people's faces that I know about "their cures."

Hi Deborah, It IS intention and sometimes small changes.  It's not mythic or magic at all and so misunderstood still.  I would not use a bagua mirror for a neighbor issue, I would place a small round 2" mirror either inside (behind a picture or something else where it won't show) or outside with the mirror facing TORWAD the other home.  We are NOT puching them away, we are creating and keeping our own space and energy and just deflecting theirs back to them.

Carole- Great informative post! Thanks so much for blogging, because you are sooo interesting!I will buy the book..........:)

Hi Carole - I should have been more clear. I was referring to your statement re: bagua mirrors, "Most commonly placed above the front door facing OUT to help deflect any negative energy away including large buildings, fast moving traffic and sometimes troublesome neighbors."

Thanks fo the additional information! I have an application for that.
