That's what they told me; my own Guild. Trying to do a project on the scale has never been done before by ANY members of the Guild. And if the project "flops" (their word, not mine), it will look like the Guild flopped. I almost dropped the idea---almost. Until my son stopped in one night when I had just gotten the letter discouraging me. "Don't worry about it, we'll do it." Right. This is the kid who can't be bothered taking out the garbage.
But he didn't forget and I finally found a place that I wanted to go see. With an interesting background. Samuel Jones, of Jones Beach fame left a $15,000 grant in his will to "the needy." (In contrast to the $1,000 he left his wife, I'm sure SHE was pleased about that!). 1836. A board ran it and it had survived all these years. They take in the elderly, the poor elderly I should say that otherwise would have no place to go, an increasing problem here on the Island. We went to see the place, I got sad and my son got mad. The deck (which opens up to a beautiful view of the water) was badly broken and the residents were stuck inside, year round. Every room in the place was awful, they are totally non profit and badly overlooked, even by the government for grants.
I had in place two Guild members who said they would help. Two. Out of all the members on the Island and New York City. Did we want to pick a room, the commitee asked us (I wasn't expecting to meet with a commitee). And my son, the kid who can't pick his own socks up tells them HE is going to fix the deck. He is actually sickened that the residents can't go outside. And I am saddened by the rest of the place, there is not ONE nice room for them to go. The residents crowd into a hallway and called it the Library.
Until I had spent days, hours, and lots of begging to get supplies, posting for volunteers, and everything started to fall into place, one of the two came to help. She picked out the color of the conference room (that purple was NOT my choice!). Purple is supposed to be the accent color for money in Feng Shui, you're not supposed to be bathed in it. But it's the room where all the financial decisions are made...and it apparently worked. We painted, decorated, did a lot of Shuing and hoping for more people to come in. The garbage still doesn't get taken out and socks are still on the floor, but my son spent days on the deck. And if I can get the pictures up, you'll see the difference! And I'm going back again this year; there's alot of truth in "It's better to Give then to Receive." Which I wouldn't have known had I let people discourage me.

I'll get these pictures down yet:) The others are on my site if anyone wants to see, this is my first picture post :)

r apologize for how long it has taken me to write. It does not mean that I do not think of you often and all the great things you have done for us. Just walking into the board room makes me smile. I also think your influence and that of your associates is working with a change in the atmosphere here. But there have been more concrete examples in the form of monetary gifts. We have received several gifts of cash, and two new private pay residents. In addition we received notice of a $ 20.000 grant from Senator Marcellino and a $ 150,000 grant from Nassau Country to replace our leaky roof. Dignitaries from the town attend the resident's birthday party, a group from Town Hall is holding a yoga class for the residents each Saturday, The Rotary Club is having lunch here this month, and the Mayor is holding a function here! Talk about energy you and your associated seem to have stirred up a lot of good energy at Jones Manor! Thank you,
*I apologize for the way the letter came out....it didn't scan right. But this is my first picture post so I'm getting there:)

Carole... there is a lot of truth to what you stated. thanks for sharing.
In regards to your pictures... I read your comment in my other post. What troubles did you have here? And what would you want corrected? Let me know... maybe we can change it now... giving you a quick idea how easy this can be. I did most of mine from trial and error. let me know....
HI Jeff,
Thank you, I'm going to give it another shot soon....I am trying and it sounds easy until I get there! If I erase one more post, I'm going to start doing them in another place to save them first! Thanks so much for the kind offer.
