Exploring Long Island NY: Caleb Smith State Park Preserve

Today was "I love my park day." I made sure to allow time for participation to help clean up and enhance New York’s parks and historic sites and bring visibility to the entire park system and its needs.

For those unfamiliar with  Caleb Smith State Park Preserve, it's nestled in the heart of Smithtown. It's one of only two state nature preserves on Long Island. Within its 543 acres are a variety of habitats offering guests picturesque views that change with the seasons. Caleb Smith is a passive use park. This not only helps protect the local plant and wildlife populations but also allows visitors to escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and enjoy the quiet serenity that can only be found in nature.

We saw a Gartner snake! cool!

I love rustic scenes like that top one.  We have a lot of garter snakes here.  I'm not afraid of them, but we also have rattlers, so they startle me until I determine they aren't poisonous!

Great photos, especially the "eye" you used to get the shot, thanks for sharing. It's fun to see other parts of the country.
