The Great Wall of Los Angeles Mural

Before heading to a morning Feng Shui consultation, I walked along a local park and obserbed "The Great Wall of Los Angeles." This is a half-mile long mural that tells the story of California from prehistory to the 1950's. This is considered one of the LONGEST murals in the world! It contains chronologically ordered accounts, beginning with dinosaur's on one end and the Baby Boom on the other. The mural was designed by Judith Baca, founder of the Social and Public Art Resource Center (SPARC).

From 1974, the creation and completion of the mural spanned over five summers, employing over 400 youth and their families from diverse social and economic backgrounds, work with artist, oral historians, ethnologist, scholars, and hundreds of community members.

The photos do not due these murals justice. The quality of brushwork compliments the raw, aggressive, and beautiful energy these murals embody through its storytelling. If you could see them in person, please do.

Fascinating, Laura! San Francisco has a lot of murals but none 1/2 mile long.

I am increasingly notice murals pop up in areas near my home.  I like how the one in Los Angeles tells the history.
