August 27th 2017 Berkeley California Protest: Keep the PEACE

Stop the Hate:

We attended the PEACE protest in Berkeley, CA near the University of California. For the time we were there, the protest was pretty peaceful. About an hour after leaving, according to the LA Times, "the demonstration started heating up about noon at Martin Luther King Civic Center Park, where the two rival groups faced off and several fights broke out." Unfortunately, this was bound to happen as a few people from both sides that we witnessed pushing through the crowds wearing black clothing, ski masks, and tear gas masks made it visually obvious things are bound to turn ugly. Thankfully, we left before those activities unfolded.

It was disappointing to read the LA Times report that a handful of protesters who were supposed to be promoting peace, choose to participate in violence. This solves nothing, except prove that you are just like those whom your protesting against. Either way, the fact that we are having protests to counter groups that are known to promote HATE is extremely sad. We are all better then this, come on people.

In the words of Joe Biden: "If it wasn’t clear before, it’s clear now: We are living through a battle for the soul of this nation."

Laura

It's nice to attend a peace protest at Berkeley . . . .

Good luck and success.

Laura, we already chatted about this on FB, but later I read this, by Joe Biden, that I think you'll like. The Berkeley Peace Rally, at least for the most part, exemplifies what he says.

Sounds like what we heard out of the President - there were good people on both sides.  Always are.

Which in turn means there were bad people on both sides...  always are.

Good morning Laura.  It's a shame that there are some who want to mar the effect of a worthwhile rally for a good cause.

To have Neo-Nazis, white supremist, and bigots in abundance being open with support from the White House we can expect more violence.

Hi Laura Cerrano - great shots of the event.  Too bad the media has to encourage bad behavior because they like to show it on TV.  I'm glad you guys were on the side of Peace!  All is well here on Maui of course, and miles away from all that craziness.
