New York City--Or: How Many Pictures can you get into a POST? by Feng Shui Long Island

There is ANOTHER name for this post. It's called "How Many Pictures can you get into a POST?" Yes, the saga continues.  I certainly can't speak for all New York City Feng Shui Consultants but this one LOVES Manhattan and spent quite a day there.  If you've missed the first two parts of this you can read them here:  A New York City Day--Take a Walk with Feng Shui Long Island

A New York City Day, Pt. 2 Still Walking with Feng Shui Long Island

To see some pictures of Central Park you can try:  A Feng Shui Consultant in Central Park, New York by Feng Shui Long Island   (My goodness, I wasn't expecting a whole SERIES :)

So, we were FINALLY headed out of Central Park on our day in New York City and were going to find somewhere good to eat.  We exited Central Park on 79th Avenue on the Upper West Side of Manhattan and I hadn't seen some of those beautiful buildings in quite some time.  The architecture is spectacular but one particular building we were walking past made me stop and remember; it was the Dakota Building made famous in the movie "Rosemary's Baby" and sadly, more famous because that's where John Lennon was shot and killed.

We took a moment to go to the side entrance and I had explained to my daughter as much as I could remember of that awful night.  I thought of all the songs that never got sung and remembered his total love of New York City...and the fight he had to stay here when the government was trying so desperately to deport him.  He'd made New York his home and he wasn't leaving.  The building is heavily guarded but John Lennon was so friendly he'd often stop and sign autographs and speak to his fans.  It was the one truly sad moment of the day.  Still, every December thousands gather at Strawberry Fields--to IMAGINE.

The side entrance of the Dakota...and a moment to reflect.

A little further along we passed a building with Foo Dogs;  This certainly wasn't the first time, the same thing had happened to me at the end of Chinatown and I'd discovered a Buddhist Temple that I'd never known about.  Now you KNOW that if it has Foo Dogs, I'm going in.  It was a hotel I'd never seen called The Mandarin.  A gentleman who worked there stopped me at the entrance and I asked him if I could take a few pictures; he was wonderful about it.  "Of course and be sure to visit our lobby on the 7th floor" he said.  I thought we were IN the Lobby.  I loved it, beautiful artwork and a very serene feeling.  I have often stayed the night in New York City although it is not a long commute because I enjoy it so much.  The price of a room there?  Well, they start at $695.  Another night, perhaps....

Ah, passing Lincoln Center.  There is always something that draws me in.  Even with stomachs rumbling we decided to see what Operas were coming up.  Although I've been to a few, Laura has never seen one.  And while I never in the world expected to LIKE them, I absolutely loved it.  Madame Butterfly was coming up---and I got tickets for April....one of the "impulse" purchases.

*Just past this lovely sculpture was a beautiful building and we stopped to see what it was---FORDHAM UNIVERSITY.  Who would have guessed that in just a few weeks I would be at their Bronx Location??

Finally we went to 57th Street (trivia note:  The rents here are actually higher then they are on 5th Avenue) and decided on an old favorite "The Brooklyn Diner."  They have wonderful food-and lots of it.  And are true to their name, it's straight out of Brooklyn!

Walking back toward Times Square, the sun was setting and the lights came on.  It is always a spectacular site to me.  With only blocks to go to get back to Penn Station I had one of those "I can't take ANOTHER step" moments and we hailed a cab.  Unfortunately, it wasn't "Cash Cab", a New York TV show where they ask you questions while driving you to your destination.  You can win money if you know the answers, or get thrown out with your third strike.  The one cab in a city that has 13,000 and I want it--although I'd likely fail miserably on the questions :)

Back home at last.  I looked up and snapped this picture to remember a very long, very precious day in New York City with my daughter.  Feng Shui Long Island, New York City Consultant.

Feng Shui Long Island RRDifficult to see but it says "Welcome to Farmingdale" and the time.  Almost 7pm.  We later calculated we'd walked about 78 Blocks...I wish I knew what that calculated to in MILES.  I'd better end this post, I am expecting a call from the New York State Tourism bureau--I believe I'd be a great asset :)

Carole - I'd have stopped for the Foo Dogs too!   The Mandarin sounds lovely.

Did you know there's an company in NYC that folks from out of town can hire independent "NYC experts" to take them sight seeing? It's true and I'm pretty sure you might qualify :)

Another wonderful job Carole - the pictures really tell your story and what a story it is!

I can't wait to read the press release on your new position - the NY State Tourism bureau will be lucky to have you! Just don't forget your AR friends as you take on yet another project!

What a beautiful city you live in, Carole!  When you get that job with the tourism department, be sure to sign me up for the very first tour.  That will be well worth the price of airfare :)

Girl - You are makin' me carra-aazzzyyy!!! Another marvelous tour in New York - yes you would be an asset to the Toursim Bureau for certain. The Mandarin is an intriguing place. But then then NY is obviously many cities in one!

Wonderful shots!

Thanks for the pictures Carole, I'll take my armchair tour with a cup of coffee please.

NYC is so exciting and has so much to offer in so many ways.

Glad you had a nice day with your daughter.

Good evening Carole,
Another great visit to NYC with you.  I enjoyed the 78 block walk and I'm not the least bit tired.  LOL!

Carole~  You are making me homesick for the time I spent in New York while taking some depositions several years ago!  I walked from one end of New York City to the other-- it was such a wonderful experience.  Your tour reminds me that I missed a lot.  Thank you for this informative adventure through New York!

Carole, loved another one of your tours. You are turning into quite the professional photographer.

Carole,

I didn't want this tour to end! Your pictures are beautiful and I must say if one is going to do a day trip, they should go along with you. You really know how to find the most interesting and beautiful things...and write about them in a way that I doubt anyone else ever could come close to.

Just wonderful!

Carole ~ What an asset you are to the city's tourism!  More great pictures and I loved seeing them.  Your feet must have been sore the next day though!

I was ONLY KIDDING about the Tourism job (I just happen to think I might qualify :)

Adam, Thank you for your comment.

Laurie, My pleasure.  I probably enjoy my pictures more then anyone :)

Jackie, I would have thought that would be fun and there are a few walking tours in NY that I love.  I have to tell you I slip right in like I belong...and I'm the one that's having fun, the tourists are yawning and bored--go figure!

Debbie, I feel so badly that some took that seriously...I was only kidding.  Not that it's a bad idea...

Lisa, Come on up, I'd be happy to be your personal tour guide :)

Deborah, That place was fabulous...They had a rooftop restaurant but I didn't go up there...can you imagine the views from there??  You'd love NY, our museums...art is everywhere.

Bonnie, You can't feel the Energy that way (although I'm all for good coffee!).  Come and visit sometime.

Cynthia, I could barely MOVE the next day, I'm not joking.....I really wonder how to calculate the miles.  I think I need a pedometer.

Joan, I am there all the time and I miss SO many things....I figured I'll never keep up with all the changes in Manhattan.

Gary, Some pictures come out better then ever.  Too bad, that camera can do so many things if I learned how to use it correctly....

Jo, We were cross commenting!  I do have to stop the I Love New York series---I think people get it by now.  I have to figure out a way to really spend time there---but the RENTS are incredible.  Even staying over has become impossible....something I need to work on, huh?

Kathy, I wish it were only my feet that were sore.  I was hurting the next day and aspirin didn't do a thing.

WOW Carole - I will absolutely have to schedule a trip to Manhatten. It looks like so much fun - and soooo much different than Montana. I love to just walk and look at interesting things. Thanks for sharing your experience.

Carole - Thank you so much for sharing your lovely city with us.  People don't walk like that in Houston, as it is so strung out over so many miles.  It takes over an hour to get from one side to the other by car sometimes.  You miss so much in a car.

Carole - A good friend of mine (she is actually like my sister) visited Manhattan a couple of months ago. She totally fell in love with the city.  I will send her a link to your blog. She'll totally love what you write and how you write.  Thanks, Carole.  What would we do without you?!

Kevin & Monica, It is a wonderful city but beware of the prices of hotels!  They have gone up SO much.

Candy, You're right, you miss a lot by riding.  It is more fun to walk in NYC, you never know what you're going to run into next!

Sally, I'll get you out here one day---and I'll be in Hawaii one day :) You can count on it.

Marzena, That's wonderful, you can come and visit with her!  You would love it here I'm sure.  And call me, I'll meet you both.

Melissa, Thank you, I left out some good shots but geez, that took post forever :)!

Joan, It was so beautiful to come out and find that it was dusk and the lights were on.  I wish I could have walked back to Penn but I was done :)

Jeff, It is SO much fun, there is always something to do.  I loved Bubba Gump Shrimp (the food is not bad, either) because you climb up about three flights and look down over Broaday at night.!

Fred, Tha Mandarin was exquisite.  And they were SO nice to me, "Take all the pictures you like" was what they said.

Jennifer, It was a very long and very fun day!  I am waiting for the perfect Spring like day again to head back to the park, that day in January incredible.
