Santa makes a visit to every street in the Village of Farmingdale, Long Island, every single year. I have been here 30 years and he hasn't missed a one. I've missed a few but I know he's been here, there are Candy Canes left for us! He must know I have a sweet tooth!
This year I heard the fire engines off in a distance. And they kept going. I was actually starting to get alarmed, thinking it might be a fire when I remembered it MUST be Santa. The bells got louder and louder and I went in search of the camera---to capture a moment.
Some of the firemen walk ahead to keep Santa's path clear and some parents get their children dressed and get them outside. You have to be fast, I know because I always managed to get my children outside. It's just not the same watching him from inside the house :)
Here's our Special Santa and a note of thanks to the very special firemen of Farmingdale for the work they do ALL year!
Waiting with great anticipation, Santa is coming! Farmingdale, Long Island, New York. Town of Oyster Bay.
Here he comes, Candy Canes for all!
What does a Feng Shui Consultant think of Santa? I can only speak for myself, I'd surely miss him if he didn't come!
Until next year, Santa!
For anyone in the Village of Farmingdale, Long Island, Santa comes to visit EVERY street on the Saturday before Christmas. Make sure to have your coats and camera ready :)

Carole - Oh my! I'm going to have to see if I can talk to my town about this!! What a WONDERFUL idea!! I'm putting it on the calendar right now :) Can you tell I think it's an extra special town you live in?

Hi Carole,
How lovely of Santa to pay a visit to your neighbourhood....I too believe in Santa and always will.
There must be lots more snow than that this year....we've got at least a foot! Or did it miss you?
Jo
Carole... damn, Santa is everywhere this time of year. How does he do it? please explain... lol Hey, nice pictures. It's nice that the Santas of the world get around to brighten up the kids week. Thanks for sharing this.
Are these photos of your street Carole? It looks marvelous with the folks out in the bright sun and dusting of snow.
We've had quite a bit of snow by this point - lots of shovelling. How about you?
Santa is magic for sure, we just saw him here in NC. The reindeer sure do a good job getting him from town to town quickly.
Sally, It IS a lot of fun, he is certainly jolly! Cold, I think but jolly :) He was really moving fast this year, I think he needed some hot chocolate.
Julie, It was fun when my children were little and it's still fun now. He comes early to you, he must be making his way East :)
Carol, Merry Christmas to you too. If Santa can't get you in the mood for the holidays, who can? :)
Jackie, Your town doesn't do this? Gee, I thought he was everywhere! If they start sending him, just watch out, your taxes will rise :)
Mary, It's a nice tradition, I've been here so many years and they haven't missed one yet--although I have. Merry Christmas to you and many, many blessings to go along with it.
Jo, We got ICE. It's still out there frozen, it hasn't warmed up enough to melt :( I'd rather have snow! Poor Laura was stuck here and missed a final, she finally made it back but upstate the buses weren't even running.
Candy, You're welcome here anytime you want snow! Actually, I'll trade you. I've had enough after all these years! It's funny how when you don't have something you want it and if you do have it, you say it's ENOUGH :)
Jeff, I saw him trying to sneak down one of those energy drinks, I'm sure he goes through many of them. I don't believe it's hot chocolate at all!
Joan, I love your animations, it certainly brightens up my dull posts! I wonder if I'll EVER learn...
Deborah, Yes, it's right in front of my house. We haven't really had much snow but lots of ice and many accidents. I'd prefer the snow anyday, this stuff is treacherous. And WINDS of 50 mph some days...I have to hope they don't knock me down!
Kris, I had forgotten and I was scambling for the camera and a coat. It's been very cold here for December, this is more like weather we would expect in February!
Cynthia, I think the reindeer had the day off, he was in a fire truck. Poor things, they are exhausted even before Christmas!
Kathy, We had beautiful weather last year, I should have guessed we'd have to make up for it but this is ridiculous! I can't believe how cold it is!!
Teri, Gee, it would be a little warmer for him to come during the day, wouldn't it? I don't know if I'd be able to see that much at night. Maybe you could send a note to the town? :)
Carole
Is that where that guy lives? I know the polar caps were mealting and it may have relocated with a great Realtor like yourself.
Happy Holidays to you my friend!
Tom Braatz
What an awesome fun event for your community Carole! Hope your dinner was nice last nite - I may try and call you Wed. evening - we have an appointment tonite :)
Sincerely,
Grace Safrin
I can see your ability to gently calm people and lower their inhibitions. I could feel the pleasure and joy of watching this wonderful introduction to Long Island when Santa strolls down the street. Good writing, I can see why you are a feng shui consultant.
Tom, I never see him around in the summer, I believe he was just visiting :) I wish you wonderful and joyful happy holidays as well.
Grace, I didn't go, we postponed it until tonight or Friday. Because of the snow storm my daughter missed her final and had to go back and take it and come home again...But I do hope your appointment went well. Should we shoot for Thursday or after the New Year? And Thank you!!
Jem, I'm sorry they don't have it where you are now, it is fun no matter how old you get! And it does leave many lasting memories! Thank you for stopping by and commenting.
Sal, I know how you feel, I still get excited when I hear those fire engines! This is the first year I realized there are hardly any small children on the block left...kind of sad.
Christopher, Thank you very much for the kind words. Santa is a delight, it is always fun to see him. This year when we get some good snow I'm going to do what my parents always did, freeze some snowballs. Nothing like a snowball fight in the summer :) Thank you for your lovely comment.
One of the local volunteer fire departments does this. I waited this year and it was a rainy windy day but I heard the sirens coming. Unfortunately, they skipped our section of the neighborhood. I was bummed. (I think it might have to do with we are in the city and the other part is in the county, but that didn't stop them from knocking on our door for their fundraiser!) I might have to go have a talk with them. It is so fun to watch the looks on the kids' and the adults' faces.
Kim, I'd be bummed as well, I love to have him drive by and would miss it if he skipped my block..write a note. It might not get you anywhere but you might feel better for speaking up :)
Laurie, I have no doubt he stopped at MANY wineries....Heck, I would and who can blame the old guy....btw, how old is he now?? :)
Carole...just think you missed seeing Santa a few years. as you get younger you'll be sure to be there every year now.
Cheers, MERRY CHRISTMAS.
Hi Carole-
Our volunteer firefighters in the cities surrounding Houston do this also. They even toss dog treats to the doggies that can bear the sound of the engine & horn!
Best Wishes for your Holidays,
Kathy
Fred, What a nicd picture, thank you for posting some Cheer! Getting younger---oh, do I WISH! :) Thanks for your comment.
Kathy, That would be so wonderful to give the dogs a treat too, mine would LOVE it instead of being afraid of all the noise!
What a great tradition!
Thanks for sharing Carole - I think we often get so caught up in the busyness of life that we forget how important these traditions become!
Happy Holidays!
