I'm not quite sure if I found her or she found me; no matter. We're Activerainers and one thing we have in common is that we BOTH love our local fairs. If you haven't guessed by now, I'm speaking of Lisa Heindel and here's a link to her latest adventure: 2007 Gretna Heritage Festival a Big Success
This fair isn't one I usually go to but it is the ONLY fair my son goes to. Having my daughter home from college for the weekend (and already tired from the previous fair that same day) we decided to go meet up with my son for a few hours. This fair is held in Massapequa, Long Island, New York and is apparently a great one that I've been missing! For one thing, it's even larger than many of the others and we came across some interesting sights but that wasn't what touched a nerve with me during this fair. It was watching the "kids" together, laughing and having fun and acting just like CHILDREN. I was caught up in memories of all the fairs of the past and realizing one thing: That while everything has changed, in some ways nothing has changed at all. This was my day back to the past:
Year: 1987. Ages 2 and 4. Time sure flies when you're having FUN!
And at The Massapequa Fair, Town of Oyster Bay, Long Island. All grown up? I don't think so.....
I swear this animal is smiling. He might have gotten at my son's drink. They had a petting fair with some terrific animals).
Yes, we're still playing with the animals. Massapequa, Long Island Street Fair, Town of Oyster Bay, New York.
Certainly not camera shy, this one.
A wonderful collection of old and antique Auto's. I love old car shows.
Little Ballarina's came out to dance; they almost looked like Fairies.
A game I've watched them play a hundred times before. Laura is already holding one fish Adam won but he wanted a "playmate" for it. $40.00 later we had two fish (Sammy and Ginger), a little tank and food.
Things change so much over time while other things stay the same. I LOVE those days of going back to the Past.

Carole, What a lovely post and adorable pictures... fairs are so much fun. How are Sammy and Ginger doing?

I am so glad you were able to enjoy the fair with your kids and remember past fairs. The photos are great, I think the animals were enjoying you as much as you were enjoying them. :0) Pretty expensive fish, bowl & food. LOL. Have you found a fair to attend next weekend?
You do love fairs! It's been my observation as a visitor that Americans generally appear to appreciate festivals and community enough to show it in droves - great to see your son and daughter! They look terrific - nice you all had fun together.
ahh gee...
Jo, The fish are just fine, I'm going to get a bigger tank and add to them :) It was a wonderful day with some terrific weather!
Jennifer, They grow up SO fast :( Since I lost so many pictures I figured it's time to make new ones (and yes, I still play with the animals).
Lizette, I am looking forward to your post (I always do). If you lived around here I would be dragging you all over! Your fair looked "HOT" :)
Cynthia, I'm going to be running out of fairs soon :) There is only a few weeks where they crowd them all in. These fish are going to end up costing me a fortune!
Lisa, Don't say that, I'm hoping they live long and happy lives. I'm getting them everything they could possibly want (and more brothers and sisters). You have some wonderful fairs and I always love reading about them!
Kathy, My kids were too competitive, they didn't get close until they got older---I thought it was never going to happen. I'm so glad things are different now, they spend a lot of time together and with many mutual friends. SO nice not to hear fighting :)
Carol, I didn't realize it was going to be memory lane but that's exactly what it was. And I feel SO OLD now!
Joan, Thanks, I was glad I had it too. I just read about your latest trip and absolutely loved it, I am right with you every step!
Deborah, I think many people come for the food :) I love the handcrafted items (I bought a turtle--not real-- that was made by a 75 year old woman in Pennsylvania). I have no idea where I'm going to put it but I loved it :) Do you have lots of fairs and festivals there?
What an Awesome Post Carole - Your Pictures & Children are precious - My Mom always used to say doing things with Your Kids Keep You Young :) LOL
Sincerely,
Grace
Hi Carole,
Great post thanks for sharing! You kids are cute little and now big! I love the donkey!! I liked going to the fair as a child and then taking my own kids it was a fun time.
Lysa, We have a lot of the same things in common, I know that from reading your posts! I especially love old car shows though I didn't get to a single one this year :( That's ok, I was out doing other things. Thanks for your comment.
Grace, Your mom was right, I think. I am the only mother that gets invited out with my daughter and her friends! I almost never go but when I do, they are genuinely happy to have me along :) I consider it a huge compliment. Thank you for commenting.
Trace, Thank you, it was fun having them both together and seeing them act like children again. I love that they bring animals (I'm not sure how the animals like it, though) and the fish (thankfully) are still fine.
Adam, It was a terrific fair. There are so many in those few weekends it is impossible to get to them all but I still love them!
Katerina, Those are the "kids." I had so many flashbacks that day to fairs of long ago when they were little, trying desperately to win a fish :)
Julie, Thank you, there WERE a lot of smiles that day. I swear that one animal is smiling as well :)
Betty, I sure does bring back memories and we've had our share of those giant stuffed animals too...and way too much cotton candy!
Andrew, I don't know where the time went, they grow up SO fast! I am horrible at the games but I try anyway just because they are fun! But I don't think I've EVER won a thing :)
