New York City "Homeless" Artwork...Should Manhattan NY have to be Without?...

Feng Shui Painting by Laura Cerrano of Feng Shui Manhattan and Feng Shui Long Island NY

To my fellow artist of New York City and the surrounding NY-Tri state areas. Many of you might have noticed a bit of controversy in the art world on the streets of Manhattan New York yesterday. Mayor Bloomberg and the Parks Department of New York City proposed to limit the amount of art vendors selling their work in major New York City parks, such as Union Square, Battery park, areas of Central Park and High Line Park.  Their reason is because they have noticed the parks being "too crowded and feel it has become dangerous."

I walk the streets of NYC and have had the pleasure of creating and selling artwork during the peek seasons for sales.  The New York City Art vendors are work hard to get their names out to the universe (public) and make an honest living.  If you take a deeper look, with any issue, it always boils down to who saving and making money.  Because these artist have made a nice home in these beautiful NYC Parks and can do pretty well, it seems it has been making the "bigger" named galleries nerves around those locations.  If this is the case, then please, we welcome you to step up your competition and join us in the parks.

Carole, thanks for reblogging this article. I think it's shameful that artists cannot display their works in public. Art can't possibly be that unsafe, can it? jay

That is a beautiful painting, Laura!!!   As a tourist, I find it  a very welcome site to see artists displaying their works in landmark areas as long as things are clean and not too crowded.

I do think your reasoning has merit, Laura that the big galleries don't like the street competition!!!

It is amazing the gifts that some people have when it comes to artistic talent.  It is a shame if they are not able to display their talents-WHERE EVER!

How did you re-post this without their original blog being listed?

Laura is truly talented Carole !

But what a shame there is pressure on the fabulous artists around the city. I love to see them out there when I am in and around Central Park. Lets hope they loosen the grip and let them do what they do best.

Cheers Carole, and Cheers Laura :o)

That is a beautiful piece of art!  I hope that artists can continue to display their art in the parks.  I think it should be possible to provide security where needed.

Hi Carole...Having seen artists in parks in many countries I cannot imagine why anyone would want to limit them.  They always attract people and add a human touch to the parks.  If the parks are becoming too crowded in NYC build more parks.  Tear down some of the dilapitated buildings and put in green space.

I like the shades Laura used in her painting.  What is up in the right hand corner?

Carole, I was walking Union Square just two weeks ago, browsing through all the art and great farmers market stuff. It would be a shame to curtail this tradition.

Possibly here is an opportunity to create sustainable relationships across all residents of NYC...for art, it seems, does just that...no matter who you are, it speaks to you...and when it does, interesting and authentic voices appear...like that of the artist seen here. ..in a a glorious painting and celebration of life..

I love the street vendors in Manhattan! Yes, there may be too many sometimes. But overall, it's so fun to see them displaying their crafts.

That picture is gorgeous! Most of the streets of Manhattan are crowded to begin with. Bloomberg needs to raise the pay of the police and fireman and stop worryig about homeless people trying to make money in order to eat.
