Feng Shui and Children...New York Education for Schools and Parents by Feng Shui Long Island & New York

Feng Shui and Children:  New York Education for Schools and Parents....Teach them Inspiration, Not Despair by Feng Shui Long Island NY Consultant.

As I watched my own children growing up and go through all the phases that children do, I wasn't practicing Feng Shui back then.  And although I'd heard and read about "The Law of Attraction" I'm not quite sure it had set in yet.

Laura Cerrano of Feng Shui Manhattan has a special passion to work with Children of all ages.  Her background in Teaching and her knowledge of Feng Shui gives help to inspire Children and show them of perceiving the challenges of life and believing in themselves.  The younger the child, the easier it is to turn a "negative" thought into a "positive" one.

When you notice your child, at any age, stuck or in doubt about whether or not they can accomplish something, encourage them.  Sometimes you have to give them the "worst case scenario" to make them see that there are no FAILURES, only things we haven't attempted because of our fears.

This is probably the most difficult part of Feng Shui for Children and for AdultsBeing mindful to turn each and every thought into a positive one.  It is probably the one our client's struggle with the most but once they get past it, they often start to see it happens on it's own.

The most powerful role models in children's lives are their parents and authority figures, which include teachers.   When they see you happy and hopeful, it is what you will project to them.  Children have an uncanny intuition and even at a young age are likely to feel them on some level. Do your best and Don't allow them to catch your doubts and fears.

I was speaking to someone today who I liked very much.  She had her own issues with life....and some of the many people in it.  I encouraged her to try and forgive those that she held grudges against which were very difficult for her.  I tried to explain that you do that more for yourself, NOT for another person.  It releases you....and them.

And I reminded her of her children as well.  Both are still in the "formative" years and instead of waking up and dreading each day going to school, to try to help them focus on waking up and seeing a new "Adventure."  Life is full of them and we need not miss them.

Laura has begun to work with Children from all walks of life.  They include children who are "labeled" as ADD, OCD, ADHD, Learning Disabled and who are truly gifted and talented in one area or another.  Laura understands some of these children will confront massive challenges in school and life.  She knows the capability and with the positive motivation, inspiration, support and education, these individuals can truly accomplish their dreams.

For Children and years before "The Secret" spoke of the "Vision Board," in Feng Shui we spoke and used an "Accomplishment Board" for Children.  It is theirs to fill with things that make them feel good and it should be changed often.  I often see Children hang their favorite piece of artwork or something they envision themselves becoming in the future....which changes as they grow and change.

Whether your child is 3 or 15, have them give it a try.   It is something we suggest to Children to show them All they have done and ALL they can become.

My mother practiced negative reinforcement on me although I don't think she actually realized what she was doing. She was under the influence of alcohol at the time, but I did everything I could to prove her wrong. Of course, now I pretty much dislike negative reinforcement.

Carole -- kudo to you and your daughter. It is so important to inspire children and help them learn that failure is not a negative, but an opportunity!   I am glad Marti featured this post.

Carole, that is a wonderful thing to help children learn!  Russel, though alcohol was not involved, the concepts being taught to these children were not prevalent in my childhood either.  It's a wonder we survived!  LOL

From the desk of David Dee,

Carole, looks like you and your daughter are doing a great deed here! When things are tough it is vital to offer encouragement, especially for kids. Words can have a lasting impact and can negatively affect their mind.A little word such as 'good job' or 'you will do better next time' can have a lasting impression.

I've witnessed cases where a kid came in second and the parents stated, 'why did you come in 2nd? You should be #1'. Saying things like this is like casting a heavy cloud over the kid. However, if we state, 'that's great! You came in 2nd. With a little more effort you can be in 1st place.' The manner and how we say it can clearly influence them to improve. The flip side of this is that some kids use the negative comment as motivation to become the best but is not usually the case. Overall, the key is to provide guidance and support and the results will be very satisfying.

Carole, your daughter appears to be a wonderful person and human being.  The acorn doesn't fall far from the tree, does it?

One of the saddest things I ever experienced was about 25 years ago.  I had a storefront in New York and a customer came in with her little boy.  He looked like he was 4 or 5.  As she talked to me, the little boy interrupted her.  She repied, "Shut up stupid!" and I was shocked.  I immediately thought to myself what a damage she was doing to his little psyche.  I still think about that little boy and pray for him that he did not grow up believing the tags that his mother placed on him.  My heart still aches for him.  We must nurture the little ones and raise them believing they can accomplish great things.  Because they can.

Hi Carole, what a wonderful post! I grew up with negativity in the household. It took me years to turn that around. My son seems to have a positive attitude and is confident most times. He's 14. The best thing we can do for our children is to surround them with positive attitudes and that will go a long way. I love the accomplishment board idea. The children looked like they were having so much fun with Laura!

Carole,

Laura is a very special young woman ....it's clear that your positive attitude and encouragement helped her to become the wonderful person she is today and now she is spreading that positivity onwards....

Hi Carole, This is a great article. It's wonderful that Laura has the gift of working with children.  She is blessed and it looks like the children love her.  You must be so proud of her - all of your hard work over the years has paid off.  It's so true that children learn what we project, whether positive or negative. They are picking up on everything we do, even when we aren't aware of it.  Our job as parents and care givers is to teach them to be able to see the positive in a negative situation and to help them learn to work through those difficult situations and turn them around.

Lots of wisdom here, Carole! Children hold such promise and potential, it's all we can do to not mess it up sometimes! Your daughter is beautiful, both inside and out. I think she takes after her Mother. ;-)

A positive outlook can overcome so much.

Oh, and I'd like to add . . . it's never too late to start adopting more positive thoughts and retraining out minds!

Russel, Staying away from negativity is one of the best solutions people can do with helping them self move up in life.  Thank you for sharing.

Marti, Thank you for the feature!!

Joan, It's so true, these Youngstudents area pressured to pass and make the grade...sometimes it's all about numbersand placement, rather the information they are learning.  Sounds odd but, failure is great. By experiencing it and learn how to deal with failure they learn how to push forward, they are really passing.

Maria, Even today the enthusiasm and motivation for these students can be low with a handful of teachers who truly do care to see them move on.

Liz, I absolutely recommend it, as adults we seem to forget what we have achievedduring our life time. It is always nice to have something that reminds us visually.

David, I agree, bottom line is to support and guide because at a very early age that is what children need and are looking for.

Maggie, That's horrible for that little boy.  Laura would share stories with me about what the children would open up to her about, what happens at home with siblings and family.  It's such a touchy subject because you want to help but she is not at school to "technically" provide those helping services.  The laws tie her hands in a sense.

Jackie,  That's great that your son has a positive outlook on life...that's how it should be :) Laura loved working with those students, so much fun, everyday was fun she said.

Jo,  she has truly come a long way and continues to strive forward and inspires others along her journey :)

Sandy,It's so true, to start them off young, they will be able to handle themselves that much better in tough situations.

Craig, She really does want to help make a difference.  She sees the potential in these children.  As long as they have a supportive environment in school (which she makes sure of) and at home, there children can accomplish anything they want :)

Deena, Children are our future...we can teach them SO much and it will always help them through life to adopt a postitive attitude. Especially when you can start with a young child...it makes a huge difference for their entire lives.  And you're absolutely right, it's difficult to change our thoughts but can..each and every one of them--at any age.
