Warding Off the Evil Eye on Long Island NY: A Feng Shui Long Island Perspective

Warding Off the Evil Eye on Long Island NY:  A Feng Shui Long Island Perspective

As a Feng Shui Consultant on Long Island New York, I am often asked about another belief many of my clients have:  The EVIL Eye.   This subject has come up so often that I've written about it twice before:  New York Feng Shui and The EVIL Eye by Feng Shui NY Consultant Carole Provenzale

Actually, if you read the last comment on this post it is from a woman named Regina.  She swears she has been afflicted by the Evil Eye for many years; she goes on to write that at one time someone was able to remove it but it came back.  It's a very sad comment.

I had also done a Feng Shui Consultation for a client in our lovely Long Island town of Huntington New York.      New York Feng Shui Art:  What's 650 HOURS of YOUR Time Worth?  by Feng Shui Long Island & Manhattan

This Feng Shui Client created Artwork for those who believed they were afflicted by the Evil Eye or didn't want to have a curse put on them.  He was from the Middle East and his Artwork was very popular over there because of such a strong belief in this horrendous curse.

With the ever growing population here on Long Island from out of the Country, I've recently noticed that items to ward off the Evil Eye are becoming popular.  On a recent trip to our local mall, Roosevelt Field Mall in Garden City NY, we happened to spot Jewelry and other items made specifically for this affliction.

It is said the Evil Eye can be placed on you either consciously or unconsciously just by someone looking at you with envy for something you have (or they perceive you have).  In Feng Shui we often use Peacock Feathers in our Space Clearings as the Eye of the Peacock is said to provide Protection.

Whatever your belief, symbols to ward off the Evil Eye ARE becoming more popularHere are some of the items we found in a kiosk in Roosevelt Field Mall in Garden City - Long Island - New York.

I am thinking those evil eye trees look kind of trendy.

Carole - that is a lot of eyes looking at you ...

Hi Carole.... fear can overtake anyone who is totally convinced. Evil and good is upon the earth, and man has from the beginning been given choices on which to believe.  Once fear enters into the heart, it's not easy to dislodge.  There is a scripture that says, The wicked flee when no man pursueth (fear): but the righteous are bold as a lion.  The growing popularity of the tokens is more evidence that folks do not desire to live in this bondage of fear.

My parents lived and worked in Turkey for a number of years. They came home with a lot of similar items! I think Diane said it well . . . fear is a form of bondage that can have a very firm grip on our hearts and minds.

Carole,

It's sad that some people direct negative energy deliberately at someone else due to jealousy or envy. I'm not sure about the evil eye effect, however I do believe that if you think you have been curse, it might become a reality through your own actions.

Perhaps wearing some of this jewellry or having some artifacts around helps people to believe they will be ok and therefore, they are. The mind is very powerful.

Thank you for explaining what that is to me. I often ask Eileen why Chinese people have certain shape of mirror in their house, I believe it has similar function to deflect the evil.

Carole - I really really like those in the second picture.  There is something about the royal lapis blue color which is totally awesome!  I often think the devil or (evil) is our own dark side, or the collective darkside of mankind!  Knowing that it exists, and gaining power over it, can make us stronger in the end.

Its funny, I have heard the peacock feather referred to AS THE EVIL EYE, and also as ward against the evil eye...Since I use it as part of my logo, I don't want to send out negative energy to anyone, so I just choose to think peacock feathers represent beauty, and that is what I want to help people create in their home!

Hi Carole-

When I travel, the eye is everywhere.  I try to remember to wear mine (small beads that were a gift from a man in Turkey).  They are so ingrained in some places that the older people will worry about you and make sure that you have one to ward off the danger.

I was unaware of this phenomenon.  I think it is interesting... and the "eyes" have it!

Hi Carole... I learn something new from you all the time.  Are there specific placement or location guidelines for the trees or pendants?

I always lean something when I read one of your posts Carole!  I might need an evil eye necklace but I am so glad to know that my peacock feathers are more than just beautiful!

Some days I think we need one of those to ward off evil eyes -- send one our way!

Carole my mother used to give me the "evil eye" when I screwed up as a kid but I think that is a completely different subject:)

Carole: I must say I can relate to Bill's comment.  You've written another interesting post.

Hi Carole, I have also heard of someone "giving" someone else the evil eye out of envy or jealousy, but I thought that it was just a saying.  But, I learned differently on one of your previous posts about people afflicting someone else with the evil eye.  I hadn't seen jewelry before that helps ward off the evil eye. Or, perhaps I did, and didn't really realize what I was looking at.  So interesting.  Again, I learned something else that I did not know.

Tom,  They do, don't they?  I wasn't there long enough to see if they're selling.

Kathy, Supposedly that was a lot of 'protection' looking at me!

Diane, I know there is a lot of fear surrounding this.  I don't happen to believe it but have found out people from many cultures are brought up with this fear and they do believe it.  Maybe this will help them to over come their feelings....I don't really know.

Deena, You're right.  I often think of things WE grew up with such as not to walk under a ladder or break a mirror.  I've done both but I can't say I'm thrilled about it :(  Things you grow up with stay with you, especially when taught by elders.

Jo, I absolutely agree with you and I do feel there are some (very few) people that WOULD like to hurt others in some way.  I remember being told not to let these people get me down, that they can't hurt me.  I sometimes wonder if the strong energy of hatred CAN affect you in some way.........

Morgan, I'm not sure what Eileen has, maybe a Bagua mirror?  We are told to place them outside to deflect disturbing influences away from our space.

Myrl, I am glad I don't believe in the Evil Eye and I also do like the jewlery (maybe a little smaller :)  I think anything you focus on gives it more power---good or evil.

Cheryl, We often use them in Space Clearings so I believe they are meant to help deflect negative energy.  My client also created the artwork using the feathers to help those who believe they were afflicted with it....I haven't heard peacock feathers were the evil eye...

Sara, I know it is believed in many cultures.  I used to think it was just the Middle East but Italians have their own name for it.

Hannah, Thank you.  I had heard and wrote of this but was surprised to see the display.

Joan, The "Eyes" definitely have it....may they all be Good ones!

Steve, The pendants just are to be worn and it's odd but I did ask about the placement of the trees because I didn't know myself.  Oddly enough, the woman selling them didn't know herself.....

Jackie, Have you heard about cutting your birthday cake without scraping your name off first?  I heard of that when I was 30 years old and they (the people who believe this) told me I'd been creating bad luck all my life!

Irene, Funny you mention dream catchers.  I just love them and we do have those :)

Crystal, I have some peacock feathers too because I believe they are beautiful.  Other people use them for other reasons.  As long as they feel it helps.....

Carolin, I think we ALL have off days....but I don't believe it's a curse.  I think people can only hurt you if you allow them to.  When I go back to the mall I'll pick you up one :)

Bill, I think she just gave you the "mother" look :)  We all have that 'don't you DARE do that again' look !

Donna, It's such a widely held belief.....I am so glad I don't have it!

Sandy, There are people that believe they can deliberately do harm....and people that believe that harm has been deliberately done to them.   It's in all the cultures I could find.

Hi Carole-It is amazing the different things that we can be afraid of like walking under a ladder, crossing the path of a black cat. step on a crack you break your mothers back etc. It isn't just something that kids have when they need their parents to check under the bed for monsters. Fear can be crippling when taken to extremes. Hope you are doing well. Have a great Sunday. <SMILE>

Having lived in the Middle East, these just look so familiar.  The peacock feather is a natural symbol of protection.  I guess those people in that kiosk must be convinced that there is a lot of superstition on Long Island.

Sharon Lee, It is amazing with what we focus on can truly make a difference in our life.  It is better to in-tune with your goal then with assuming what another individual is "doing" to you.

Jane Peters, The idea of being "cursed" or having the "evil eye" has been around for centuries.  I think Long Island has always had it, just not many choose to discuss the topic. But now it is well known.

Hi Carole,

Those "evil eyes" are AWESOME!!!  I want one!!!!!  Tell them to bring the show to Atlantic Canada.... or I'll have to wait til I visit my 85 yr old Italian Aunt sometime this year....  It's been a while since I've been to Garden City, but I will definitely have a reason to visit it now.  LOL   ;>))

Ann-Marie, the products are beautifullymade and designed.  these "evil eyes" were at the Roosevelt Field Mall.

Sharon P,the tree came out really nice.  It would be a nice way of adding some color to your space as well :)
