It's Restaurant Week in New York City: Feng Shui Long Island's Favorite Pics
Restaurant Week in New York City! Who doesn't love this time of year? It's a chance to try a new place that you've wanted to eat in or return to an old favorite of yours. This year Restaurant Week in NYC is being held January 25th through February 7th but don't wait-many are taking reservations right NOW.
As a Feng Shui Consultant I am often in New York City but my fascination with this City goes back many years and I've been fortunate, through the years, to eat at most of the BEST places in New York City. I've been to almost ALL of the restaurants I've selected with the exception of two I've heard rave reviews on and would really love to try.
Sadly, some of my favorites are NOT participating this year : ( Perhaps the economy isn't quite as bad as we thought. In any case, it gives me the opportunity to try a restaurant people are talking about: Butter Restaurant From what I've heard about this place, it's GOT to be good!
There is a price fixe menu and some restrictions apply at different restaurants in Manhattan. Lunch is set at $24.07 per person and dinner is $35.00. Here's a list of the others and a few notes to go along with them:
Water's Edge Restaurant (menu)
The Russian Tea Room (menu) This was remodeled several years ago but they left all the glitz and glamour. I have eaten there several times through the years and was never disappointed in their food or their service.
Redeye Grill (menu) As much as I enjoy this place, there is always a wait. Sometimes a very LONG wait. Hopefully with reservations that won't happen.
Brasserie 8 1/2 My favorite of the French Restaurants in New York City (and there are plenty of them!).
'21' Club (menu) aka The Jockey Club. An interesting RUMOR about this place is that it's one of the few clubs that thrived during the great depression. It's said to have an underground "wine" area where the rich and very famous were able to indulge in their pleasures during the prohibition. It's a New York City Landmark, having been around for 80 years.
The Oak Room at The Plaza Well, it's not "THE" Oak Room, it's the "new" Oak Room. I have to say I miss the original. This place is smaller and the menu is completely different. I was disappointed when I ate there. Sunday Brunch, however pricey, is still well worth it.
One if by Land, Two if by Sea This place too has been around forever. You KNOW that means it's good. It's also reported to be haunted which could make for an interesting evening!
Le Cirque I had eaten at this place in it's old location although it still has good Zagat stars. I did love the food. However, since I wasn't "someone" we were delegated to the far reaches of the restaurant. The food was good...the service was stuffy. VERY Stuffy. Still, I'm putting it down because you will enjoy their new menu and never know who you'll ‘rub elbows with' in here : )
Il Cantinori Restaurant Good food, friendly people. Large dishes so there's always enough to take home.
Central Park Boathouse My absolute FAVORITE in the summer (especially if you're fortunate enough to get a table right on the lake). The food and drinks here are terrific. Just inside of Central Park, I have always found this place to be a delight!
And if you're not on a budget? If money is no object and you can eat anywhere you want, what would I suggest? The Rainbow Room will always be my all time favorite. I'd go there in a New York Minute! Spectacular views, an extensive menu, a revolving dance floor and a full orchestra. It's absolutely enchanting!
Can't afford that and happen to be in the heart of Times Square? Try Bubba Gumps Shrimp House. I have eaten there on more then one occasion and expected the old "tourist trap" type of place. It is all that but it is also GREAT Shrimp! To get to the restaurant you climb 7 or 8 staircases so when you're seated, you're actually looking down right into Times Square. It's a Neon Night for sure!
Those are some of my favorite places to eat, straight from a New York City Feng Shui Consultant. Try one or a few.

I love restaurant week; great food and competitive prices. What's not to love?
Carole - I would so love to check out Butter - Chef Alex Guarnaschelli is wonderful on the Food Network. And great value on the price fixe. If you go there - we need a review!
Hi Carole:
I've only been to a small handful of restaurants in NYC.
Restaurant week has got to be a lot of fun!
My question would be, "How can you only have restaurant WEEK?" I would think that restaurant year would be more appropriate. LOL
wow, Carole, this would be a great addition to tourist magazines....if I ever visit New York I'm printing this and taking it with me.

We've been to the Rainbow room and it was very elegant with a great view...also one of the few occasions for when I wear dresses :)
Hi Carole-What a fantastic and in depth look at your fav spots. They all look like they would have scrumptious food. Will have to check that out when I am there. Have a super week my friend. <SMILE>
Ooo... I have to put something in the Link Love group. Hmm... Wonder what I'm gonna cook up for you later (LOL). ;-)
Carole..Wish it was restaurant week when I was there it would have been really great ... but to honest we barely ventured out of the hotel...after all the courses we were exhausted....Great post

Hi Carole...Very Good List of the Who's Who in Restaurants in New York, Love to try a few of these someday.
Carole, you are better than any AAA travel guide for information for New York City. I do have a question about a dish that was offered up by one of the restaurants you did a blog about in either Port Washington or Jefferson?? They had a dish that was called something "Provencale". Do you have any idea what that could be?
Hi Carole... I attended a wedding at Brasserie 8 1/2 last January. The food was exceptional! I also like il Cantinori quite well. And The Russian Tea Room is always a wonderful choice. I am going to have to hit some of the others on my next trip to NYC!
Oh it's like heaven Carole! And not WW heaven! (Got your message - I was away for the weekend -and tonight i got home so late- but I hope we connect soon!)
Bubba Gump's Shrimp House is awesome! Haven't been there in a long time!
Restaurant week must be pretty cool. I am sure there are so many great places to eat you could never get to them all!
I especially like your little notes about the restaurants, Carole. Maybe I can get Chip to dust off his passport to foreign NYC and check out a few!
Eileen and I are making reservations at a couple of places that we have never been to, should be fun, maybe I will make a blog post out of it also. Surprising about bubba gump shrimp, I've never been there and would expect it to be really generic food also.
I love restaurant week in NYC!!!
What better way to try out new places than with big discounts at a place you've never been?
There is no way to dine at all the great places in only a week. I suggest Restaurant Month! I went to 21 a few years ago and it was divine! Truly a worthy landmark in NYC!!

I've only been to NYC once but I'm ready to go back. Is restaurant week at the same time each year? What a great idea but I agree with Russel Ray, it should be Restaurant Year!
Wish we were there and could enjoy some of the tastes!
OMG I would TOTALLY love this! What an awesome thing to be able to visit all the amazing places-- and the menu items! Fabulous!
I, too, wish it were longer and yes, it's usually at the same time each year. Some of these restaurants are truly spectacular and I'm sorry they are missing some really great choices. I was SO suprised at Bubba Gumps....I had expected dull food but a nice setting. It's actually got good food and a fantastic view of Times Square!
Bruce, all I know is that's it's an Italian dish but am not sure what's in it (besides lots of garlic :) Steve, I'm impressed, you've been to some of the best restaurants here! Liz, Catch up whenever you had time, I'm glad to hear you were away for the weekend and hope you had some fun! I took my children to the Rainbow Room twice and don't think they'll ever forget it :)
Carole - there does not seem enough time to take them all in so folks will have to choose wisely
I am going to mention it to my son who lives in NY. I hope to go to Butter next time I visit him. Thanks for the post.
sounds yummy ( I'm hungry) Carole - thanks for the great ist of NYC restaurants for future reference :)
Sincerely
Grace
