DRAINS in Feng Shui: Don't let YOUR Money go Down the Drain!

DRAINS IN FENG SHUI:  What one Feng Shui New York Consultant thinks:

Laura and I have been working on a new Feng Shui building on Long Island New York that has been a bit...DRAINING.  While initially scheduled to open in 2008, Long Island New York winters can stop construction in it's tracks.  So can waiting for permits and all the other issues associated with a new construction.

Feng Shui in New Construction along with Interior Decorating can bring up some issues.  The principles of both don't always agree.  One example of this is in Interior Design placing objects in sets of threes are recommended and they are different sizes.

In Feng Shui we think of TWOS.  Pairs of objects to symbolize and enhance relationships.  They should also be of the same size so there are no "power play" or control issues.  Another thing Feng Shui Consultants and Interior Designers differ on is the placement of Mirrors.

Feng Shui is rather strict in it's placement of Mirrors.  Whatever they reflect, they double the Energy of the object.  It is wonderful to have a mirror reflect the outside to pull in natural light and nature for example.  However, it is considered BAD Feng Shui to have a mirror facing a DRAIN.

There is nothing complicated about this issue to me.  In Feng Shui, the meaning of drains is exactly what it sounds like.  Drains can drain our Wealth, Health, Relationships or Career.  It's a popular saying whether you believe in Feng Shui or not:  "There goes MORE money down the drain" or something to that effect.

On a Long Island Feng Shui Consultation in Holtsville NY last week, I saw the PERFECT drain cover.  I couldn't believe my EYES.  My wise Holtsville New York Feng Shui client had completed a renovation in 2005 and aware of the Feng Shui implications of Drains, she had chosen this type of drain cover for ALL of her bathrooms which allowed her to put in whatever size mirrors she wanted.

How I WISH I had seen this before the Interior Designer disagreed so strenuously over this issue.  And a HUGE thank you to my wonderful Long Island New York Feng Shui Client for allowing me to show it...you might want to consider it when YOU undergo renovations.

Hi Carole... The "drain" issue is one of the few Feng Shui principles I actually know about.  What a clever solution!  Thanks for sharing it.

I'm always learning something new from you.  I have to admit though I like the look of the three's better than the look of the twos.

Carole -

That really is a great looking drain cover.

Thanks for your post!

Carole, I can't imagine a mirror with a drain.

Carole: Very interesting as always.  I think drains are hideous anyway, so I certainly wouldn't want one reflected in a mirror.

Carole, it sounds like this project has been very draining for you. (giggle out loud) Nice drain cover and an excellent solution to the dilemma.

Carole: I love reading yor tips like this. One of my pet peeves is leaving the toilet lid up, which I always have understood allows wealth to dissipate - this is a such an easy thing to do, but so many homes for sale, including new construction models don't adhere to this.

As always Carole, I learned something new from you. And, I can't believe a drain cover can look so good! :)

Carole how neat looking too. No ugly drain showing. Didn't know this about mirroring drains....or toilet lids up either

Carole - Very cool !  Am also learning something from each of your posts !  We saw your daughter at Raincamp but did not get a chance to say hello.  Were you there as well ?

Steve, If only I had known back then!  It is actually a HUGE Feng Shui principle that they were unaware of.

Marchel, They probably DO look better but we use placements with INTENT.  We don't want a "third" person in our relationships which is why we think in Pairs.

Phil, It was such a great find.  My client saw how excited I got :)!

Gary, The placement of mirrors in bathrooms (over the sink for example) often hit the Drain and double it's energy.  We have to try to deflect from that, especially in a new construction.

Donna, Check your bathroom, they are more common then any other issue I can think of.  They often reflect either the tub or sink drain.

Maria, It was a great find....I wish I had known of it earlier!

Janice, I know they don't.  It is recommened to keep the doors closed as well although I find many people either have a cat (and that's where the litter box is) or find it gets stuffy.  So it's not always possible to close the door but the lid should always be down.

Jackie, I didn't know it could look so good, either.  It's wonderful to keep this in mind if building or renovating.

Mel, I see it so often in bathrooms and it's something we try to stay away from if at all possible.

Al & Peggy, Clever, isn't it?  I wish I had known about it earlier...

Christopher and Stephanie, I wasn't able to make it but Laura is thrilled she did.  She had a wonderful time there and learned so much.

Bill, She has been lurking for a while and afraid to post.  I think meeting so many people made her feel more comfortable.

I didn't know about the drains, I like the fish tanks in the front of most Chinese restaurants and bamboo plants.

Carole, Amazing, I learn something new from you everytime I read one of your posts. It makes sense that drains can be so draining.  I have never seen a drain cover like this one.

Carole,

That's a very interesting drain cover...I wonder where you would buy such a thing and if they're available here in Canada?

What do you think of a mirror facing your front entry door? Louis would like one there in our new place (we start moving tomorrow), however I'm not sure I like the idea.

Carole - very interesting but is that not still a drain in the middle of the shower ... it may not have the conventional holes but I look at it and still see/think a drain

I had no idea drains could be so... well draining. This looks like a perfect and very attractive solution. Where can I get one for my shower?

Oh WOW Carole, that drain cover is AWESOME! I have little red ties around the drains in my kitchen and baths (I know, country FS) but that drain cover is such a PERFECT solution! I love it! I will remember it when we redo our master bath...

Wow, that looks like a very cool device--and very clean!

I don't know much about Feng Shui (learning through you!), but isn't it still technically a drain, though?? Just asking . . . not to be "smart", but seriously! It still serves the same function, or am I misunderstanding how it works?

Well I have never heard of such a thing!  I am very ignorant of Feng Shui principles.
