Spectacular FIRE ISLAND, Long Island, New York: I believe they've already used Feng Shui Here!

Ah, back to my regularly scheduled posts!  Phyllis mentioned in a comment that I have been to many places this year and gotten to see many things and she's right, I have been SO fortunate to get called for Feng Shui Consultations from from all over.  Now I'm traveling by Ferry and it was a first :)  This post is more about pictures because you have to SEE Fire Island to believe it but it is an incredible place.

Fire Island is divided into different areas.  And there are NO CARS ALLOWED!  Two of the areas I visited recently were Ocean Beach (the unofficial "Capitol" of Fire Island) and a stop in Cherry Grove.  Fire Island is one of the hottest places to have a beach house but it totally unlike The Hamptons.  There are no class barriers here and it's still considered a "Bohemian getaway."  Ocean Beach boasts about 600 homes now with more being built every day and is a "family" community.  Cherry Grove is a more flamboyant lifestyle  and a hotbed of gay culture, considered by many to be the oldest and first gay communities in the United States.  Both are full of artistic expression (as you will see), the most creative "landscaping" , art galleries, fine restaurants and a beautiful beach.  Here's some shots I captured while there:

Looks like a great place to visit...how do people get around? Are there many hotels or B&B's.

The pictures reminded me of the atmosphere at Key West! Great Picures Carole

Carole, It does look like a lovely summer place. Do people live there in the winter too ?  I love the sand dunes, we have a lot of those 'white sand' dunes around here too.  The sculptures are truly lovely and the tree is amazing !  thanks for sharing this beautiful island with us.

Joan, I haven't been to Key West, the trip I had scheduled I had to cancel (my dog was sick, I couldn't leave him!).  You can take the Ferry to different parts of the Island or just walk (which I did), you never know what you're going to run into there!  They have lots of places to stay but they fill up fast and are very expensive---it's so much fun there!  Thanks for your comment (now I have to do a meme?  Oh, dear....)

Jo, I posted the tree for you :)  I remembered our comments.  Some of the homes are winterized but I don't know how the Ferry's run in the winter to get back to the "Mainland."  You love water, you're going to have to come and spend some time in New York, this is a wonderful time and I've got room always!

Fire Island is way cool! The pics are a bit like Key West as Joan said. I love that place! Some of the art you posted is really interesting...even the one where they forgot the pants! lol

Carole, thanks for posting the tree pic . As you know, I LOVE trees. I talk with
them regularly. Old Trees are very wise, they have seen so much. I love this
picture of the 'Chestnut Man' . Chestnut trees have almost disappeared from Canada and the USA, sadly. There are still some being cultivated on farms and such, however the giant old wise ones that used to cover our continent, are all but gone.

I would love to visit sometime. Thank you !  You are welcome to visit here as well.  There is so much to do and see here in Ontario. It's history is tied in so closely with that of New York's.

Many years ago we visited friends who had a summer home on Fire Island. I remember carrying the groceries on the ferry and then taking then to the house by wagon - as in little red wagon like a child's...

Fire Island was great!  And realized that I haven't been called for the Hamptons :(  Well, yet.

Lizette, I am So sorry i didn't get to key west, but I know you...you wouldn't leave Chanel.

Val, we need to tour this Island more!  We are missing some fun things while we have such nice weather!

Jo, I LOVE that picture!  I don't talk to the trees but I am amazed by them.  That one was twisted, like it had a difficult time and grew anyway :)

Maureen, you're not that far away, I think you would love spending a day on the Island...anytime you're ready, let me know!

Sharon, they still have the Red Wagons there!  They are right by every ferry.  The groceries in town are SO expensive so everyone goes back to Long Island to buy them.  What a nice memory...

As far as I'm concerned Fire Island is paradise. I prefer it to The Hamptons because of the "no cars" and "no shoes"..I wish I was there now...

Michell, thank you for the comment.  The ride over is certainly more pleasant as well considering how long it can take to get to the Hamptons on a weekend!  The day I went was just beautiful and not crowded and I too love the no cars!  They filmed a reality show there for a month, the name of the show was  "One Ocearn Drive" but I didn't see it air.   Have a wonderful day.

I love the seaside photos - any time I vacation it's at the ocean, preferably wide open oceanside rather than in protected waters. I love the roar day & night. I'm contemplating a trip into WA soon - the Lavender Festival is in Sequim in less than 2 weeks.

Yes Carole - natural balance & harmony!

Deborah, This is a beautiful place.  I've thought often of moving one day to Arizona because I love it there but I would miss the Ocean SO much!  I ran into a person there who was from Long Island orginally (imagine that?) and he told me that he flies 4 times a year to San Diego to get his "water fix."  Get to that festival if you can, it sounds wonderful!

It must because I'm land locked and I need to further my education. I've never heard of Fire Island. Sounds and looks like an interesting place. It looks very "New England" to me.

Dena, it does, now that you've mentioned it, remind me of some quaint New England towns but it has NO CARS....I believe that is one of the things that makes it so unique----and that it is :)

Ginger, I used to go to the Hamptons every weekend....back when they had "Hot Dog Beach."  Funny that we never thought of going to Fire Island!   Glad it brought back some good memories.
