Thanks & Giving = Gratefulness by Feng Shui Long Island

Wishing you a Happy, Healthy and Safe Thanksgiving!

In this New York Feng Shui House we think of Gratefulness.  We also think of Giving Back or Tithing.  A certain percentage of each Feng Shui Consultation goes to my two favorite charites.

One is St. Jude's Children's Hospital.  We all have a soft spot in our hearts for children and I believe Danny Thomas did a wonderful thing by creating such a place.  Where there is hope for Children AND their families while they all face a very uncertain and frightening future.

The other place that has stolen my heart is a non profit Senior Home called The Jones Manor located in Bayville, Long Island New York.  The amazing volunteers that help these seniors do it out of love; many are unpaid.  I had the opportunity several years ago with the help of my son, Adam Schumacher and my daughter, Laura Cerrano to help transform this place through painting, redecorating and some really good Feng Shui.  My son rebuilt their deck which was not able to be used at the time.

No matter what YOUR charity is, remember it and help out if you can.  One hour of your time can often make a huge difference in someone else's life.  Be very thankful for all you have and remember to take the time to PLAY!!

I love your blog Carole, I have the charities I donate to linked on my website. I also have incorporated one charity into my business-City Team, San Francisco.  When I meet new clients I ask if they will be donating any clothing, blankets, shoes, dishes, bedding, towels-I offer to pick it up and give a tax receipt. I have collected so much for this well deserving organization.

Hi Carole!  That is so wonderful--I too, think Danny Thomas did such a wonderful thing starting St. Jude and also the manner in which they fund it.  There's no place like it in the world and you're so lucky to have that right in your backyard to offer your volunteer efforts.

I'm active, as you know, in Rotary and our club is committed to children's charities--the devotion to doing so much for the children in need is the reason that I am so passionate about my club.  I only wish I could do more than I do!  Retirement will be my favorite part of life--I'll have all of the hours in the day to volunteer for the children.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving, Carole!

Carole - I also support St. Jude. I am also holding a toy drive for John Thiessen Children's Fund (www.jtcf.org). They give new toys to needy and sick children during the holidays and I support them. It's always a great feeling to give back no matter what.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving Carole!

Hi Carole,

Thanks for sharing the importance of giving our money and our TIME for worthy causes.  Sharon and I believe in tithing and our church does wonderful things to help the people of our community.  We also support the Salvation Army and American Cancer Society.

Blessings upon you and your family this Thanksgiving.  We have so much to be grateful for!

Hi Carole,

It's a great reminder that we all should give to others, whether it be money, things, or time.  But, sometimes all is needed is a WORD OF ENCOURAGEMENT or a SMILE.

Happy Thanksgiving to you, my friend!

Liz, I hope you enjoyed the day.  It was long and just wonderful here.

Cathy, That's wonderful and I know it makes you feel good.  I have a page on my website for The Jones Manor but you just made me think to add the address and phone number for donations...Thank you!

Bob & Carolin, Thank you and I hope you had a wonderful and happy day as well!

Debe, That's lovely!  Unfortunately the Jones Manor is an hour away from me and I don't get there as often as I'd like but it's a wonderful place who truly needs the help.  I too think when I'm retired I will be spending more time there.

Fred, Different causes touch us all.  I used to be able to also help the animal shelters here which are overcrowded but have chosen, for now, to focus on these two.

Paddy, I had gone to help out once...and never left!  There are only about 50 residents of The Jones Manor but they are loved....it's an amazing place.

Jackie, I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving.  I have always thought the care that goes into St. Jude's is wonderful and I help them as much as I can.

Bruce, That is so nice to hear of each others charities and causes....and I'm glad we're all different.  I do always believe that anything helps and know they are grateful for the time and the money.

Jim, What a harvest...thank you!  You certainly "jazzed" up this post :)

Myrl, That's so nice to hear!  There was an arson at our local food pantry earlier this week....businesses from all over came to help.  What a wonderful ending to something that could have been so devastating.

Al & Peggy, Thank you, I did have a wonderful holiday.  A beautiful day spent with family and friends.

Sally, I'm grateful for having found you....a source of inspiration every day--and one heck of a Localism writer!!

Dee, Thank you...giving back is important and I try to whenever I can.

Marzena, I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving.  You're so right, words of encouragement don't cost a dime and can help SO much!  Anyone can use a smile :)

Hannah, That is so nice to hear!   I think it's very special that we all have causes that "call" us.  Those are the two that chose me.

Carole I could not agree with you more.  I love St. Judes and used to give to them also.  I now have taken my giving even closer to home.  I sponsor a drawing to get kids to wear helmets in horse shows.  I always made my daughter wear a helmet . . . even in a show.  She was the ONLY one out of groups of up to 25.  It horrified me.  Then it really got close to home.  One of my daughter's friends was in a parade. No helmet-horse did nothing wrong.  He stepped back and hit the curb on his hock and she fell off.  She hit her head on the curb.  That was two years ago.  She still wears a diaper and speaks very little.  She will never be the same!  That is when my cause began!!

Hi Carole, why am I not surprised that you and your family do these wonderful things for the seniors. I bet they are thrilled to be able to use the deck and soak up some sun rays!

Hi Carole, I hope you had a great Thanksgiving! This Christmas I'm helping the children with cancer at Johns Hopkins Medical Center. I started a campaign to collect books for those sick children - Spreading a little bit of Christmas joy - Please donate a book to the Children at the Hospital. In my office we also adopt a family and help them. This year we have a list with 180 families in need of food, clothes and toys. we will have a lot of work and we do that with our heart!

Tami,  My son when he was in his late teens used to always go rollerblading in the streets...I would hold my breath every time he went out because he refused to wear his helmet. Thank god he never fell to the point of injuring his head or breaking any bones. I'm sorry to hear your friends daughter didn't have the same outcome.  I wish her and her family many blessings.

Cynthia B, As soon as the deck was finished being built, the seniors had BBQ's the whole summer.  The Jones Manor would update us about how much they loved being outside :)  That was a great feeling knowing that we helped make a positive difference in their lives.

Asheville, There are so many more people that we would love to help :)

Diane,There is so much we can all learn from one another and use that knowledge to inspire others and our selfs.

Cynthia T, It is the greatest gift of all...that feeling never stops going away, it stays with you forever.

Gabriela, Wow that's a great holiday gift. Those families who will be adopted are very blessed by your kindness and love. I can absolutely donate a couple of books and I'll spread the word to past and present clients who might want to donate as well.  I let my daughter and son know about this as well, so they can help spread the word. Good Luck and Good Work! :)

Grace, It's unbelievable what comes your way when you reach out to others to help and are grateful for what you already have :)
