Hi Carole! I've done a few 'flippos' in my shoes recently! LOL You know, I'm a huge fan of Zappos shoes--their customer service is unsurpassed and I just love being able to try a pair on and if they don't fit, order another right then and there. SAME day, that new label is to me and ready to ship back to them. By the time the truck picks those up (in a day or two), they're delivering the right size or color or shoe that I decided upon! To me, Zappos exemplifies customer service--that's what's in THEIR name!!
Have a great Thursday...
Very Cute, post Carole, I like it!
Carole,
Like it. You could draw all kinds of inferences from that name. Better just pass on it. :)
Steve
That is a not so great name for sure for a shoe store -- oh my.
Carole, I think that a name is everything!
All I can think is "Is there a big market for shoes for Hippos?" Thanks for the laugh Carole
I love it! LOL I was looking closely to see if there were any of the hippos from the Bronx Zoo going in or out, but it's so hard to tell .....
Great chuckle!
Great picture, Carole. I think Steve is right that we shouldn't draw any conclusions from the name. It is a very attractive sign for the shoes, and a nice color. Did you take the photo in New York?
Carole,
I'm wondering if it is Flippo or Hippo. Neither is a great name but when a sign isn't clear, it is worse! Great shot.
Hi Carole,
Your picture reminds me of the old comedy series, "Married With Children". Shoe salesman Al Bundy would certainly have a comment about the store sign.
Do you always carry a camera with you?
It's all in the name! This one was taken in NYC last December. I couldn't resist snapping the photo!
It does look like Hippo's at first glance. I had to look at it more closely for a while, and I'm still not sure if it's Flippo's. Not much better, really. :)
Thanks for the chuckle, Carole!
Cheers,
Robin
Carole, Very interesting. When I first looked at it I thought it said HIPPO and didn't realize the real name until I read the comments. Of course, it did get your attention and ours; so I guess it works!
Actually it may be a great name for a shoe store! It seems to get a lot of attention. Has Hippo replaced Alligator? Just sayin... LOL
So are you saying my feet are fat?!? I don't know if I could shop here... Funny name though, very memorable! LOL
Debe, That's funny, I see the Word HIPPO and wonder who they're trying to target :) Maybe it IS flippo but I didn't see it that way. I was laughing as I snapped the photo.... :)
David, Thank you. If it says Flippo it doesn't appear that way to me! I see HIPPO Shoes
Steve, I did but not without laughing. I keep wondering what customers they are trying to get into that store?
Carolin, It does say Hippo I believe. I can't imagine someone naming their store that :)
Tony & Darcy, I happen to think you're right. So I wonder that even if they meant the name to be Flippo and it looked like this would they leave it?
Paddy, It had me laughing.....and came at a time we were trying to decide on a good name for a project. A good example of something we don't want :)
Carol, I thought of heading over there to see if the shoes were super-sized :) They might have been!
Sharon, I took the picture in New York City and had never seen it before. I'm not sure what type of consumer they're targeting with the name?
Irene, It looks like Hippo to me but apparently Debe has heard of Flippo. Kind of a funny sight in NY.
Bruce, Not always with the camera and the times I don't have it with me, I wish I did! There is always something to shoot :)
Craig, You always have something wonderful to share. NYC is certainly diverse with their names but they make me laugh!
Robin, It looks like Hippos to me and you're right, I'm still not sure either.....Gotta love NYC :)
Yvette & Dennis, No matter how hard I look at it, I see Hippo first. I've never heard of Flippo shoes or I may have thought differently.
Donna, I am a size 5 1/2....I don't think I'd be stepping in that store to check out the shoes :) If it's not Hippo, it looks like it and I should have went over to see just how large those shoes were....
Betina, It had me laughing but I am wondering who is their target audience? And wouldn't there be a better name even if it WERE for people with large feet? :)
Well Carole I guess I had a different take on this, the lettering and color of the sign certainly drew my attention, then the name. The name would suggest to me maybe they carried the hippest shoes in town! I'd just have to peek in the window at least to see what they were offering!
Carole..I saw Hippo shoes..never dawn on me until i saw the comments that it said Flippo..But then again I do love shoe shopping..Thanks
Carole - I think you should ban Craig Rutman from your posts! LOL!!!!!! Interesting name for a shoe store - hhmmm It certainly looks like Hippo to me and not Flippo.....
LOL - I've never heard of Hippo shoes but just the name made me chuckle with the imagination picturing large sizes :)
thanks for the laugh Carole!
Sincerely,
Grace
Hi Carole, Well now the other comments have me wondering is it Hippo or Flippo, as I didn't even see the word Flippo until I read Debe's comment. Interesting? What kind of people buy shoes at Hippo Shoes (or is it Flippo?) -LOL
Themz some big shoes to fill! Love Craigs picture too, English as a second language can certainly bite you some times!
I would think people would be self conscious about entering this store if they had hippo feet... most likely everything else would be hippo too!
Hippo shoes... what a hoot.... I never thought of shoes for my hips.... (lol).
Somehow, I see that sign as grabbing the pre-teen through 20ish group. I'm seeing "Hippo" but it could be "Flippo."
Carole - This is a great shot and I have never heard of Hippo Shoes until now, and your comments to the post are wonderful also.
Your post my friend has been featured at one of my favorite groups at Activerain ...........

Hi Carole-I saw Hippo shoes myself and wouldn't have thought Flippo shoes until I saw Debe comment. I guess it could be. I just thought it was because I am not a shoe person. I wear tennis shoes. Womens shoes hurt my feet too much. Very cute. Hope you are doing well. <SMILE>
Well I guess large people need shoes too - but maybe they don't want to be seen going in the door!
I like when names tell me what something is. Hippo? Not sure why, but at least I know they sell SHOES!!
Cynthia, I'll probably pass it again....This time I'll investigate :)
Hannah, I'm sorry that I didn't stop in. I didn't see Flippo (but I'm not sure how "catchy" that is, either.
Leesa, Doesn't he make you laugh??? I never know what to find after Craig has been here :)
Grace, I have the same impression....Extra, EXTRA Super Sized Feet.
Sandy, I don't know who shops there...or what sizes they serve. I wouldn't have known it either except for the comments.
Robert, I was wondering how BIG do your feet have to be exactly? It never occurred to me it might be Flippo :)
Caron, But who would shop there if they didn't have Hippo feet? I don't think they would carry size 5 1/2 lol
Joan, That's a nice spin on it, I didn't either! Maybe it's for the person who has everything...
Carole, Very Funny shot! It is definitely Hippo, the script font used could make one think otherwise. A name often says it all - so what are they trying to say?!
Hip, Hip, Hippo Ray!!!!! Maybe they used the same internet translator that has been trying to sell me for weeks! Hip Shoes (as in stylish) maybe, but hippo? Great photo!
Myrl, I may always wonder if I don't pass it again. It certainly grabbed MY attention :)
Robert, With all the great photos I never thought mine would make it! Thank you SO much!!
Sharon, When I'm walking through the City, it's sneakers for me :) I walk for MILES there!
Georgina, I'm now baffled with what it says. I keep seeing Hippo (unless I squint!)
Amy, I'd take care on what type of clients I'd like to attract. Although I must say this stood out for sure!
Kathie, That's what I see...If I find them again I'll go over and see what they're selling.
Emelyn, That's cute, maybe that should have been on their sign. Hip, Hip HIPPO :)
Here's the worst name that I've found. Notwithstanding the fact that I don't like Japanese food, I probably would not eat at this restaurant:
I'm pretty sure it's a combination of Japan and U.S., but upon first read, it looks vulgar at best....
Yeah, I'm gonna agree Jim's is worse than the Hippo/Flippo shoes...LOL can't say I wouldn't shop their, but I would tear a tag out, I think...=o/
Carole: I saw Hippo shoes also....I had to look at it again to read, Flippos. It is all in the name!
Jim, I see what you mean :)
Cheryl, I agree... I think Jim's picture beats mine. That's one interesting name :)
Olga, the name is like one of those reversible drawings...you see a tree from one point of view and a face from the other.
My feet are so swollen today, that hippo shoes would be the only ones that would fit.
That sign could be HIPPO (which is the first thing I read), but when you look at it carefully, it could be Flippo too.
Either way, though ... I wonder if the owner has never glanced at the name quickly, and read HIPPO and SAW hippo.... he could be upsetting a LARGE majority of the American population....
Maybe they are super-sized shoes, to go with the super-sized portions :)
