Feng Shui The Series Pt. 3: PREDECESSOR ENERGY IN FENG SHUI by a Feng Shui New York Consultant

Feng Shui---The Series Pt 3:  PREDECESSOR ENERGY in Feng Shui by A Feng Shui New York Consultant

As a Feng Shui Consultant in New York, I have written about this before; it bears repeating.  PREDECESSOR ENERGY AND FENG SHUI is an important first topic we cover with our clients. Real Estate Blog - Let's Talk About Predecessor Energy: A Feng ...

Chances are if you're a Real Estate Agent, a Home Stager, a Home Inspector or anyone who works closely with homes, you've felt it at one time or another.  A certain ENERGY seems to come from some homes and businesses that makes us uncomfortable.....either from the moment we step into the home or in a certain area.

Feng Shui Predecessor Energy by Feng Shui New York Consultant Carole Provenzale

In Feng Shui we believe very much in Predecessor Energy which is the Energy of former occupants.  Things that have gone on in a building seem to carry an IMPRINT that often can't be defined.  It is a FEELING more then anything else.  Some of those feelings aren't very good ones. Many of my clients see and hear things as well.

We think of things that have gone on in the Land first.  Long Island New York is steeped in history; there was much fighting over the wonderful ports we have which made trading and access very valuable.

Buildings also carry an Energy of their own, due to the former occupants.  I have been touring some Foreclosed homes in Suffolk County Long Island NY with my son lately who is thinking of purchasing.  I often feel grief, sadness and/or anger.  One home I just wouldn't go inside because it was so strong.

Energy can be left behind.  Foreclosures are a good example but ANY home will have IMPRINTSSo will the furnishings which, if we choose to purchase them, we can clean in a particular manner to remove OLD energy and prepare it for new, fresh energy.

Foreclosures on Long Island NY by Feng Shui Long Island Consultant

As Feng Shui Consultants, we have ways to address and clear the land and the inside of homes and businesses.  Some of my clients call after years of occupying a space and it's only then they begin to realize that things started to change AFTER they'd moved into a new space.

Space Clearings are an important part of Feng Shui.  It removes stuck and negative energy and it removes what some of my clients believe are Spirit Energy left behind.  They can be done in a non-demonimational way so they do not go against any religion.

Have you ever walked into a home and just wanted to get OUT?  If you have, you've experienced Predecessor Energy!

Makes all the sense in the world to me about predecessor energy. I have noticed this. I can see how clearing the land is crucial.

Oh we did experience this, without knowing.  Showed a house, that gave me the chills the instant I walked in, felt weird the whole time and couldn't wait to get out!  Later I found out it was the home of a woman who was viciously murdered! Always remember the house, but never understood my feelings in it!

Definitely felt it one time- it's worth a whole blog to write the story. If I ever do, I'll link this blog to it. Still gives me the creeps thinking about it.

Carole - This is a great post!  You have put a name to what so many feel, whether positive or negative, when walking into a home.  Now, can you take a guess why I love working with historic homes?  :)

I have felt energy from places and from houses.  I am gald that you will be able to help your son if he does buy a foreclosed property.  There is often more than physical damage that is left behind on these sad properties.  Great post.

Hi Carole, I agree that some homes do carry a certain form of energy, whether good or bad.  Last year we had a tenant that lived in one of our rentals. 6 months into the lease she called to talk to us. She told us the house was haunted - that 2 people had been killed years and years before in the home.  She was terrified. She told us of numerous events, of pictures flying off walls, hair pulling, her daughter being choked.  She eventually moved out as she said she was scared for her life. We've had the home for over 10 years.  I'd never felt anything each time I entered the home. However, I understand that some feel it when others can't. But ,I have been in homes that I turned around the minute I walked through the front door because of the eerie feeling I got.

Carole - I have experienced this, but also the opposite, where a home just made me feel great. What is the name for the opposite residual energy?

Hi Lyn, If you want to clear a space yourself you will need to read about how.  It can be very involved and way too much for a blog post.  There are several great books by Denise Linn on Space Clearing you might want to read.

Tom, We believe it is and we believe it makes sense.  My clients always tell me how wonderful it feels after.

Gary, It's not good, on occasion it's a bit unsettling!  On one occasion I did the clearing BEFORE the consultation it was so bad.

Sally, I love your new picture!  You look terrific....

Joan, It's true, I felt that in a home that absolutely was NOT what I was looking for....it felt SO good!  We bought it :)

Hannah, Some people are more sensitive but most feel it on some level...if they take a few minutes.  At times I just want to get out of a place.

Al & Peggy, I have been in more then a few places where something unfortunate happened....I can tell you how different the place feels after clearing it.  It's something we do when working with Realtors to get a home sold.

Linda, I would love to hear about it, I hope you do choose to write about it.  Seems like most people have felt it at one time or another...

Leesa, I always want to know the history....historic homes facinate me as well and I often wonder WHY they built things a certain way...

Paddy, I'm not even sure he believes 100% but definitely has the attitude of "better safe then sorry"  :)

Sandy, It's not usually that violent....we don't usually get what I think of as "evil" spirits as much as "stuck" ones....I've heard plenty of noises, seen lights flickering and all kinds of unusal things but have never been terrified like that.  If you still own the property you might to get the book I mentioned above and clear it out.

Mike, Good question, I honestly don't know!  I just call them the "feel good" homes or businesses.  A business I did in Queens the other day felt good from the second I drove up--I love the feeling.  And long ago I did purchase a home that didn't meet any of my qualifications...I felt SO GOOD in it!  If I come across a name I will let you (know :)

Hi Carole, I just visited some ruins of a lovely home recently. It had quite a beautiful & sad history at the same time. I was so drawn to this place, I felt comfortable and at peace there. I was compelled to go back several times and take lots photos.

As for staging, so far I haven't felt any negative energy but when someone enters the room who doesn't want to move, oh boy I feel it immediately without them saying a word!

Love this series Carole, thanks so much!

Carole,

I believe you and I have talked about this kind of energy many times during our conversations and all of the experiences we've had......it's definitely a strange phenomenon and I've also found that objects (like beds) can hold the energy of what's gone on before....

Very interesting post!

Carole - I have had so many different reactions to walking into certain homes.  Everything from pure joy to dread fear.  I can instantly tell when this is 'the' house (when shopping for one for me) and when it's not.  And it doesn't take me hours or days to figure it out either!  :)  When the 'feel' is one on the low part of the scale I close the door and leave.

Carole,

Love this series!  My daughter called the other night to say she had found "her" house.  We went to see it with her and the energy was very good when we walked in.  It's a 90 year old twin in a Philadelphia neighborhood and the neighbor told us that a candy store had operated out of the front room in it's early days--what could be happier?

Cynthia, I know those feelings and they can be so strong.   There's such a sadness when someone has to sell that doesn't want to and you pick right up on their energy.

Hi Sheldon, It can be a very strong feeling.  Most people who are looking for homes (and most Realtors) have felt it at one time or another.

Jo, The Energy is certainly left behind in furnishings too, something we don't always think about.  We need to clear it from everthing and make it our own.

Carol, I go into some homes that just feel wonderful from the second I step in....and others that don't.  Whether they feel good or not I always recommend a Space Clearing to my clients if they haven't done it or if the energy has changed.  Some of them feel the effects immediately.

Debra, How nice to see you!  You're right about your daughter's new home, I sure it was filled with good times by many people!  Wish her luck with it, it's a thrilling time when buying a home.

Back when I was a home inspector, we did an inspection on a home where every different surface plane was painted a different color, and I mean every different surface plane. It was dizzying, and by the time we finished the inspection, we all were dizzy. I don't think there was a single color that had been duplicated anywhere in the house.
