Feng Shui in New York.....Blockage or Showcase? Feng Shui in Woodbury Long Island New York

Feng Shui in New York....Blockage or Showcase?  Feng Shui in Woodbury Long Island NY

As a Feng Shui Consultant in New York, I find many of my clients are artistic.  They too are lovers of Art in all forms.  I have worked with professional dancers, singers, songwriters and actors.

They often have their beautiful art treasures all over their homes.  In this case, a gorgeous piano occupied a space in a lovely home I did a Feng Shui Consultation for in Woodbury Long Island New YorkIt was beautiful.  Unfortunately, from the placement of it, it was also a blockage.

This photo was taken from the Front Door looking in.  True, it's a showcase piece of art and was used quite frequently by its owners but from a Feng Shui perspective, it blocked off the room.

Energy doesn't want to struggle...it flows through a space.  We choose furniture with rounded edges instead of sharp points and we look for obstacles in our paths.  In this case, moving the piano just back behind the wall took away the "showpiece" UNTIL you got inside.  It also opened up the room considerably.

This is far from all we do during a Feng Shui Consultation but it IS a part of it.  Take a walk around YOUR home.  Can you pass things easily or is it a struggle getting through?  You just might have a blockage yourself.

Carole, OUCH, I have a blockage getting in to our den but until I buy new couches there's not much I can do.  I do plan on doing that in the next few years so will keep your suggestion in mind.

Carole,

Thanks for your discussion of blockages. My limited understanding is that chi should flow through a room gently (too fast a flow rate is also a problem). What do you recommend to break up s straight sidewalk to the front door (as opposed to a gently curving sidewalk)?

Carole, I agree about flow and energy blockage. You can just feel bad design in some rooms.

That piano is big time blockage -- amazing the homes that have things like this --

That intuitive thing reared it's head with me again, now that I see this post! =o) Previewing a home some time back, there was a baby grand in the entry.  Beautiful piano, beautiful foyer but there was "blockage" immediately.  It felt like you couldn't move into the living room which was huge!

Hi Carole - Great example!  This happens at entrances and foyers frequently.  Thank you for the informative post.  Margaret

Carole--I am learning so much from your posts & photo examples.

Years ago I learned how important the flow of home in the selling process. Now I see how important it is for just living in your home.  Thanks.

Susan, I will never learn it all....or even come close.  It's way beyond what people think it is.

Marchel, Maybe moving it a bit...it just might open the space more.  If you have room, I'd try it.

Hannah, Thank you.  I was doing one of your tips the other day and thought "Hannah really IS helpful" :)

Brent, You can try things like potted plants or flowers on the side (just a few on each side) which will give the walkway a different appearance and help slow down the Energy.  Also solar lights are wonderful...day or night.  Many of my clients use them for this reason and others.

Gary, It looked pretty but it also fit so well behind the alcove and just opened the room up!

Carolin, It was a showpiece...and a blockage.  They did love it after they moved it...and of course changes occured.

Cheryl, I know, it stops the Energy and it also prohibits it from reaching other areas.  They were happy after the consult and didn't move it far but they said things "opened up."  You can feel it.

Bob & Carolin, I know some people would have left it...I am always happy for my clients that will take my advice :)

Hi Margaret, It was a beautiful home...and the first thing you saw.  I'm sure you see these things as much as I do....

Mary, Feng Shui is incredibly helpful in selling homes.  And it really does make sense.

Carole - Great persepctive !  You can see why the folks wanted to showcase it, but you are absolutely right regarding the energy and the flow.  Is it difficult though making those recommendations if the people believe so strongly in the showcase ?  I guess here, it is still a showcase once you are inside !  Great post and insight !  We love our place as we try to keep it as open as possible.

Carole - it is the little things, or, in this case the big things, that most of us can't see on our own. Thanks for posting these, keep it up please!

Very interesting Carole.  I have one big blockage here but he ... well never mind, LOL Seriously I think that the owners had placed this for maximum dramatic effect and missed the fact that it took up all the space that this lovely room offered.  I am sure they were happy with the results.

Hi Carole...I remember a home that was listed for sale here several years ago, and the feeling was it was hard to move around and into rooms. It sat on the market for months. The Agent hired a Feng Shui consultant who rearranged the furniture and the house Sold a week Later :O)

Carole, Excellent point.  There are times when I am showing property when I feel like I have to fight to get into a space and even then it doesn't feel welcoming.  I love reading your posts!

Hi Carole-The flow of a room is most definitely is key. The more I learn the more I want to learn and realize how much there is to learn. :-)

Christopher ^ Stephanie, Once I give people the reason behind making a change, most are very agreeable...And they did feel much better after it was moved.

Craig, Sounds to me like you're doing just fine!

Mike, Thank you. People are so used to their own things it's hard to look around and see what they represent....it's only giving them a different perspective on things.

Paddy...Your "blockage" sounds like a post in itself :)  And a FUN one at that!

Missy, I hope it does...but I believe I've written everything about Feng Shui that can be written.  So I thought I'd go back to the basics.

Fred, I'm not surprised to hear that, thank you  for sharing it.  I work with real estate agents and sellers to help get their homes sold and I love those phone calls that start with "guess what?"  :)

Diane, It actually looked lovely afterward....sort of like it had it's own spot instead of blocking the beautiful room.

Ah, Pat, I will never learn all there is to learn!  There are so many levels to Feng Shui that I'm still learning today!

Glad I read this - I have been telling Jeff that I want a conference table for our new office with rounded edges because the room is square ! This just validated my gut  - yu're still on my list to call Carole - every time I go to pick up the phone it's either too early or too late.

Sincerely,

Grace
