The Art of New York City Feng Shui

Feng Shui ART?  Or ART of Another KIND?

We ALL know Art is subjective.  After all, Beauty IS in the eyes of the beholder.  Some see beauty in every day objects and, if you're REALLY lucky, others will see it, too.

Recently, after a New York City Feng Shui Consultation a friend convinced me to stop in MOMA  The Metropolitan Museum of Modern ArtYou really don't have to twist my arm to go there, it happens to be my favorite Museum in New York City.  I theorize that it's because of it's DESIGN---Light and open and airy; you never feel as if you're in a "dark" space.

He wanted me to see a particular work of ART.  He wasn't fond of it and wanted my opinion.  One thing I will say is that place is never boring :):  I'll let you decide if this is something you'd expect to see in MOMA in NYC:

Beauty definitely is in the eye of the beholder; and just look at that wonderful piece of woven material, hanging there beautifully, with a sign that only tempts you to want to wrap your hands around it.  (Sigh)      I haven't seen anything quite like that in a long time. :)

the old saying, "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" certainly rings true here!

I'm sorry, but I just don't get it. It's like those paintings that look like monkeys threw poop on a canvas...I don't get those either!

But I do love the MOMA! And I proudly display my MOMA pin on my refrigerator. It's one of my favorite museums in NYC.

This does evoke the "one man's trash is another man's treasure" edict, Carole.  It would be interesting to see what the "artist" had in mind when he did this.  Does it mean he was at the "end of his rope" trying to come up with something to display?

Carole, I love the do not touch sign. I am a phenomenal artist compared to this. Amazing! It even has a title: Rope Piece. Price??? who knows...

Well, it is a style of art that I do not personally "feel". But I assume is makes some socio-political statement about something!

To answer your question, no Carole, we wouldn't expect to see that in a musemum at all. Would love to hear the artists thoughts though.

OK - so tomorrow I start pounding nails through rotted boards and I think I'll call it  .....  nails in board.  Whatcha think?  Should I try to get a gallery showing?  LOL  Thanks for sharing this most unusual piece of 'art' with us.

I guess I'm one of those that don't get it.  I could bring them some rope lines from our sail boat.

I am guessing this artist is standing behind a two way mirror somewhere watching reactions and laughing his head off at people who "try to analyze" or "appreciate" his art! The hubs never appreciated Picassos' style until we saw an exhibit of a body of his work, including some fabulous realism paintings, that confirmed (for the hubs) that he was VERY talented, and chose his other method of painting to express something else.  Knowing what he was capable of allowed the hubs to see the beauty of a different form of expression...but a rope?...that's a stretch...pun intended!

Reminds me of Yoko Ono and John Lennon and how they met at one of Yoko's art shows in New York City.

Hi Carole-NOPE I wouldn't ever call that art. I must be not that artistic. Have a great weekend. <SMILE>

Hi Carole... even tho I live, dream and breath art, I still haven't developped much of a taste for purely conceptual stuff. Have a great weekend.

As soon as I see a "do not touch" sign, I HAVE to touch it.  Such bad Feng Shui to put that label there!

don't you wonder who decides what goes into these museums?

Posted by Linda Jandura Realtor North Carolina Buyer & Seller Specialist (Raleigh Cary Realty) over 2 years ago

Hi Everyone,  This museum is one of my favorites and has the most phenominal art.  I love art but I just couldn't understand what this picture was doing there surrounded by absolute BEAUTY!  Sorry to not get back to each comment individually, catching up after the computer incidence!

And to think I never considered myself to have artistic talents, Carole! I'll go one better and tie a fancy knot in my work...

I would NEVER have expected that at MOMA.  Maybe it is just to see what people's reactions are....where is that candid camera crew?  LOL

You say the guy wasn't particularly fond of this work of art?! That's odd. It looks like a nice, clean, untouched rope to me.

Cheers,

Robin
