Close Encounters of the BEST Kind in Feng Shui Long Island, NY
Today was beautiful. I was determined to go out and play for a bit and ended up in the lovely town of Huntington Long Island. I've written about it so many times because it truly is a special place. I think of it as a little bit of New York City on Long Island with the Galleries, eclectic shops and wonderful restaurants.
There is also a store that I always visit when I am there called Mystic Warrior. It has lovely Native American objects and crystals; today I was in search of an amethyst to send to a dear person, Sherie. Feng Shui in New York: Sherie's Story Amethysts are known to have healing properties.
Inside I found what I was looking for and glanced down to see one of my favorite free Long Island newspapers called "Creations" and bent down to take one as I checked out. A man standing nearby asked me if I was familiar with the magazine.
I told him I was, that they had published an article of mine once. It was a thrilling day for me as the newspaper had been about to fold and new owners had taken it over and selected my article as one to publish. The gentleman looked a bit surprised and asked my name-I told him my name and the name of my business Feng Shui Long Island.
I saw him smile. He was the person who had taken over the newspaper when it had been about to fold...and he had published my article. He'd sent me a check for payment at that time and I'd sent it back with a note of thanks. In fact, that one article had resulted in about five Feng Shui Consultations. I'd sent back the payment to contribute it to the success of the paper and its new owners.
Here's the article published in Creations Magazine: Getting through your Workday the Feng Shui Way by Carole Provenzale
He remembered that incident although it was about five years ago and asked me to wait while he got a list of upcoming themes in case I wanted to submit again. He told me that one single act of kindness had made an impression on him; apparently one he didn't forget.
I wonder if I continue to do things that people will remember. A simple act that you can do often without thinking much about it that makes their memory of you a positive one.
Have you left someone with a kind memory of you? It's SO simple we often don't realize the impact we can have.
Even little actions will be remembered-Leave GOOD memories behind. Happy 4th to Everyone!

Carole
How true; even the little actions are remembered. It is a smaller world than it appears at times.
Carole - Your simple gesture 5 years ago surely left a lasting impact on him. Most people don't realize the lasting effect such a little thing can be. I hope you and your family have a wonderful 4th of July.
Carole - I love this type of story. It shows how "little" acts of kindness can make a "big" difference. I hope that all of my volunteer mediation work has made a difference in people's lives. You are a very special person. Have a great weekend.
Hi Carole-I love this post as I do all of them. I think it is awesome that this fellow remembered what you had done years earlier. When you put good out into the world it comes back to you and most generally when you least expect it. I really liked this line from that article you wrote. (Change your perspective and you just might change your life.) Amazing article my friend. Have a great 4th. <SMILE>
Carole - you always impart positive energy, my friend. And those random acts of kindness ... well, they are just YOU. It's who YOU are - and why you are loved and admired by many.
Keep on being you. It's what the world needs. :)
Carole, what a beautiful story! You touch so many of us in ways you will never know. I am glad that you got some tangible validation and appreciation for all that you do!
Hi Carole.....As the Saying Goes from Zig, if you help enough people get what they want in life you'll get what you want...Talk about paying it forward, that was a nice thing to do for the New owner I'm sure you made him feel good about writing your story in his first addition.
Cheers, HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY :O)
What a lovely spin on "what goes around, comes around," Carole. I bet the newspaper publisher is blogging somewhere about what a wonderful day he had too!
Tom, It absolutely IS a small world. And it's funny the things you don't even think about that people remember.
Donna, I never would have thought such a simple gesture would leave such a lasting impression. Wishing you and your family a wonderful holiday!
Joan, I am sure you have touched many, many lives....including mine! Have a beautiful holiday!
Sharon, It was such a surprise that he happened to ask me if I were familiar with the newspaper. And the article was VERY old from long before blogging came out :)
Carol, Thank you for the kind words, I think YOU are a positive force! It always surprises me that we can do something and think nothing of it, yet it is something that someone will remember you by. I hope to always remember to do the best that I can. Grandma always said "If you're going to do something, do it right!"
Diane, It was a nice surprise. I happen to love that store and apparently was there at a VERY good time!
Hi Fred, Happy 4th to you! Thank you for your comment and I guess it's the simple things we don't stop to think about that someone will remember.
Irene, That is too cute :) It was an interesting and unexpected meeting and that always makes something fun! I wish you a wonderful holiday!
Carole,
Mother Teresa said "kind words can be short and easy to speak but their echoes are truly endless". It's true, isn't it?
I had no idea that amethysts had healing properties. Perhaps that's why I rarely get sick. I have a huge 3-peak amethyst and a set of large bookends:
I've always been fascinated by amethyst, geodes, etc.
My hubs, son and I were discussing this very thing today! Since they are both in the field of education, they are very aware that every day, they have the potential to say or do something that will deeply impact a childs' life. They both take the responsibility seriously...Wouldn't it be great if we all took it seriously everyday, for each other also?
