Long Island NY Feng Shui---What NOT to Do
As a New York based Feng Shui Consultant, I'm never quite sure where I'm going to be or what I'm going to find. It's interesting that some of my Feng Shui Clients need only subtle changes in their homes or businesses. Still others need more-and on occasion the changes can be time consuming.
A client called me to Feng Shui their home in lovely Islip Long Island NY. It was a lovely home and after meeting the couple I asked for a place to sit down to discuss issues they may be having, a history of the house and many other questions.
And saw this:

For those that don't remember, in Feng Shui that is the WEALTH area (gua) of the outside. We always access the Energy indoors and out and I hoped there would not be much to do in other parts of the home.
Firewood is useful and necessary....it is also DEAD ENERGY and not something we want to keep in our MONEY area. There was also so much of it....consider the energy of heavy objects that can weigh down areas and stop them from moving.
There were, unfortunately, many changes my clients needed to make to address their areas of concern but fortunately none were difficult and none were costly. When we went outside I had already explained the Bagua and given them copies so they could learn how to use it. And when they realized it was their Wealth area I saw dismay...my clients told me that just the DAY BEFORE my visit they had their own tree cut down and had decided that might be the best place to store it.
I had to recommend that they move it and we chose another area. We also suggested they cover it with plastic or something so it didn't show. This is something we DON'T want to see in Wealth-Dead Energy. As Feng Shui Practitioners we DO want to see Evergreens, a plant that stays green all year. You'll also want to add an accent color there of purple.
Have you checked YOUR wealth recently? Inside AND out....

I love my garden...and water and take care so they're green and blooming ....inside is the same...I just have a few good luck bamboo in water...they are BIG and green. We must give 'them' good energy :)
Wow, certainly something to think about for country living folks! We cut over 100 trees off our property, just to be able to see the house. Now I have to think about the gua that we stored the cut wood in....hmmmm....
Hi Carole-I just love reading your post because I learn so much. Just a few simple changes can sure make a world of difference. AMAZING!!. Hope you had a great Sunday. Enjoy your week. <SMILE>
My one and only tree in the backyard died and was removed. Now the backyard is bare ... and I can't seem to decide what kind of tree to put back there. Maybe I'll get a couple of evergreens. I hope they can live in my clay soil. I'll have to check into it. I also don't have a green thumb, so hopefully they will take some punishment. Thanks for the tips. :)
Carole... do you have money trees also? lol Seriously, this is interesting, because I didn't know about the wealth areas outside.
Carole
Interesting information about Feng Shui and the evergreen having coverage all year.
Love you post. I am so blessed to have a beautiful green forest in my backyard and I can see it from nearly every room. This is why I love living in the Carolinas. There's trees everywhere.
good morning Carole,
Unfortunately my wealth area has a built in gas fireplace/hearth in the corner. What should I do about it?
Jo
Sally, I have no doubt that you give them good energy....and that they give it right back to you! My bamboo plant recently passed and I'm trying not to take that as a bad sign. I'll have a new one by the weekend!
Cheryl, I felt SO bad having to tell them....and they had just had it done the day before. But they understood WHY and were going to get it moved again.
Sharon, Some people think it is huge changes and often they're not, they're small and subtle and still make a huge differnce. This is going to take a lot of work, though but it had to be done.
Sylvie, My evergreens do fine but they grow so fast I need to have them cut down a bit....start off small, in a few years you'll be amazed how hearty they are.
Jeff, Of course I do...but it's inside. A Jade tree (but it's not a tree, it's small). Most of my plants grow out of control (except for the bamboo).
Tom, The evergreen stays green all year and doesn't die off...it's a great plant for WEALTH.
Tracey, How lovely your backyard is! I'd love looking at that every day too. We don't have the room here--I think my land is 100 deep and that's considered a big backyard here!
Jo, Sounds like your money is burning up :( Can you add the other elements near it to what it's lacking? Water, Wood (sounds like you have Metal and plenty of Fire) and Earth elements for grounding...
Dear Carole,
Great post. This is one of the reasons people should hire a Feng Shui consultant. you don't want to inadvertently do something to adversely affect your wealth or health. Thanks for another great post!
Betina
I had planted a blue spruce in the back left hand corner last year after reading one of your posts; yes I was inspired. Unfortunately, even with all the care I gave it, it died and I had to remove it. I am sure I will try to find another evergreen tree to replace it. Maybe I can do an entire bed of differently shaped and textured evergreens. As I love to garden, can I overdo it with plants in this area? Is there a "tipping point" so to speak?
Hey, Carole - I did a blog entry a couple of days ago about a round house that rotates. One of the commenters asked how Feng Shui would work there. I'd be curious myself.
Hi Carole....Purple? Somehow red is in my mind, not purple......I found it interesting about the dead wood, wouldn't have thought of that....but then again that's why you are the professional :)
Hi Carole,
Thanks for the advice. I do have a large Norfolk Island Pine as near to the fireplace as is healthy for the tree....perhaps this helps to balance that corner a bit. Maybe it would be better if I added a plant on top of the fireplace mantle and perhaps a little fountain of some sort.
I do think my money 'burns' up as fast as it comes into my life.... ((-:

I stage homes for sale and I would tell them to move it or hide it behind shrubbery. Covering it in plastic would only make it stand out more. It's just plain ugly and sitting on the ground would only encourage bugs
Betina, I felt so badly telling them, it had only been placed there the day before...but there had not been enough time to adversly affect anything yet. Many people are finally starting to realize how Energy in their surroundings and placement affects them so strongly.
Rich, Interesting question....I don't think I would want the area too crowded either. I'm sorry your original evergreen died, we use them in wealth because they stay green and "alive" looking all year. I would think only one or two and you can surround them with RED mulch or rocks to light it up.
Russel, I'm so sorry I missed that post.....I will have to go back and look for it. The house rotates? This I have to see! I would think it would be very unsettling for it's occupants, moving TOO much energy.
Kathy, Purple is the accent color for the area of Wealth. We sometimes also use red to intentionally "light up" the area. I have Purple Windchimes in Wealth---and evergreens.
Jo, Try to balance the Elements....for a plant try a Peace Lily. If your money is going out that fast, something is off with the elements. You might have to check the sequence of the Elements as well....involved but worth it.
Virginia, Thank you for your comment. They are not staging, they are living there and with that amount, there's only so many places to move it. They had to work around other things in the backyard as well. The plastic we spoke of was to add a color, not clear plastic....to help balance the Elements (there was a pool in the backyard as well). And a low cost alternative to building something to keep it in. Feng Shui is different from staging to sell.
Carole- I read this blog yesterday and returned today to reread and post. The amazing thing is as soon as I looked at the picture I could feel the energy being pulled from me.
