A SPECIFIC type of GPS help needed....Not for your Adverage GPS user!

After evaluating the last ten years, I'd have to say the BEST part about living on Long Island is that for a person with absolutely NO direction, I find my way by WATER (it's a good element, don't laugh). I just came from a search on Activerain for a GPS, finally resolving to break down and buy one after being so late for my presentation.

There are so many different kinds and everyone has a different opinion.  And frankly, I'm not sure how much those guys in the stores KNOW if you can actually find one to help you.  So I thought I could tell you what I'm looking for and maybe someone knows the PERFECT one for me.

My original idea of the perfect UPS device would simply be someone who rides around with me in the backseat with a map and yells out that I've passed the place....again.  We used to have so many backseat drivers, where ARE they?  Since I can't find one of them but do need to find my way where I need to go, these are the requirements I need in one:

It must be really SIMPLE to use.  I've seen ones that don't recognize a voice or can't tell what you're saying.  I just want to tell it where I need to go and have the thing say "turn Left at McDonalds."  It would be really handy if it included something that told me I went too far if I passed the Wendy's....but that's not necessary.

I need something not complicated.  As I've mentioned in earlier posts, I am TIRED of trying to figure out this new technology.  I don't know what a bluetooth is (I would have guessed a whale or shark) but some of these devices actually come with it.  I want to get from my house to my client's home----and back again.  And one that won't make me go on a highway if I absolutely HATE it....

Do these EXIST?  At a reasonable price?  A sort of plug in and go GPS that I won't have to spend hours reading  manual and can afford?  I know you guys love your toys, I have enough toys.  I'm looking for something to get me where I need to go without turning around 15 times.

I am sorry to take up a whole blog about it, but help is needed here.  And quickly.  If you know of anything easy for those of us burned out by technology and yet needing it, PLEASE HELP!

I am in the same boat.  It is time that I break down and get a GPS myself.  I am leaning toward Garmen if only for their good reputation.  I'll let you know more as I find out.

I have  Magellan Roadmate. I basically plugged it in and used it. I think they are all pretty much the same. My recommendation is not to spend the time reading the entire manual. Mine came with a one page "cheat sheet" that basically told me everything I needed to know
