As a New York Feng Shui Consultant, I am often asked ONE question: Does my home need to look like a Chinese Restaurant? It's a common misconception with Feng Shui and I tell them absolutely not.
When making suggestions for any changes necessary, I always seek to work not only with a Client's budget but their style as well. Quite often nothing needs to show at ALL and some of the Feng Shui "remedies" we use are common objects such as lights or plants.
Still, I wouldn't be honest with my client's if I didn't pass along a story and leave the decision up to THEM about whether or not to use this one thing. Some find it funny, some take it seriously but in almost all cases my clients report back that they have purchased one and used it---and have had good results.
Val Allocco first wrote about this about this long ago-the blog dates back to 2007 and was an account of our attempts to find a "Lucky Cat" in Flushing, New York.
We did and at first we found the results funny....she had set her cat up prior to me and called me the next morning. She had received two jobs just that morning.
We laughed about the "power" of the Lucky Cat. A few days later, I set mine up to "beckon" in the good, new Energy from the front door. And that very day I myself got three Feng Shui Consultations. Neither one of us are without our Lucky Cats now and we don't laugh at them anymore---EVER!
In Feng Shui Offices, make your new space your OWN.
I do mention this to my clients because I don't believe it's a coincidence. I believe I am solely responsible for a HUGE increase in Lucky Cat sales : ) Do they look odd, out of place, absolutely ridiculous? Maybe. Do my clients use them? Absolutely!
Here is a recheck of an office still undergoing changes....this was taken after warming up the space with a beautiful yellow color and if you look down in the right hand corner, you'll see it---her Lucky Cat. They're NOT just for homes!
Do YOU Believe in the Lucky Cat?
If YOU try one, face it toward the Front Door. If that's not possible and you do a lot of work on your computer, have it facing your computer...and don't be surprised if your phone starts ringing.
Btw, I heard from Val recently. She's put her heart and soul into her business and it's doing VERY well.....as she wrote in her email "Be careful what you wish for."

Carole, you always come up with something new as I read your post. Never heard this one before with the lucky cat.
ok time to go shopping for my lucky cat - does it need to be gold? :-)
Carole
"Does it have to look like a chinese restaurant" that's funny. I think I am getting this Feng Shui more everyday. If I go to New York next month I will be thinking of you and Feng Shui. Hope all is well.
good morning Carole,
This is the first I've heard of lucky cats. It sounds like you and Val have had very good results with your lucky cats....
does it matter what the cat looks like? I have a blue and white ceramic cat that kind of looks like a sphynx...maybe I can use that?
Jo
ps. writing this from the boat this morning.....it was cold when I woke up however the heater is going now and i have my decaf close by.
Hi Carole - I believe real cats are lucky, so why not try a lucky cat statue. I'll order one and let you know how it goes!
Carole, what does a lucky cat look like? What must it be like?
I have lots of cats around my house ... even my wind chimes are cats, and they are at the front door. :)
Uhm, I think I need to go find a lucky cat. I have seen these and restaurants, just didn't know they were lucky cats.
Gary, They work! If Val was here she'd say the same thing but she's too busy right now :)
Liz, It doesn't have to be gold but we both did buy the battery operated ones...where the arm actually moves.
Tom, Wow, I didn't know you may be coming to NY! If you are I wish you wonderful weather and call me while you're here if you have time.
Jo, Ah, go ahead, rub it in about the boat :) Who knows, one day I just may join you! It doesn't have to be gold and they do make ceramic lucky cats...the ones we purchased had real moving arms and ran on batteries.
Chris, Please do, I would love to hear it from someone else! My clients hear the story and purchase them :)
Sylvie, I have a picture and will have to come back and post it. They're all over China town and in every single Chinese Restaurant! I love my cats (I now have more then one) and give them out sometimes as gifts!
Kim, They're hard to miss....I have never seen a Chinese Restaurant without one. It's funny that even if my clients don't want to say they've had a Feng Shui Consultation, people notice these cats and it doesn't stop them from putting them up :)
Carole, I printed a couple today, after doing a search for FENG SHUI LUCKY CATS :)))
I will try to go back Chinatown tomorrow, to see if I can find a couple.
Thanks,
I love cats too, but didn't know about the lucky cats.
Carole the lucky cat matches the color of the room to a tee! Hope you are well. I have been missing in action too:)
Sylvie, I haven't met a client yet who was sorry they purchased one! I know you're going to enjoy it :)
Bill, It does, I happen to like them. Missing is a good sign, you're either playing or have lots of business---I wish you BOTH!
Carole ~ What an interesting concept -- the lucky cat. It was fun to read that they've worked for you and for Val too. I will have to go out and look for one -- thanks again for sharing your wisdom with us!
