Lucky Cats, also known as "beckoning cats" are very easy to maintain. They never make a mess and you never have to feed them :) They are lovable, kind, do not make a sound and best of all, are great with children! When the kids come across a lucky cat, they are immediately drawn to it and become instantly happy :)

You can adopt your very own Lucky Cat at any store that sells Asian based goods.  These little fellas do not even coast all that much. Prices can range from $12-$25 depending on the size lucky cat you wish to adopt. In fact majority of Asian businesses, from retail to restaurants, have a "lucky Cats" by the front entrance to help welcome in new customers and positive energy.

If you are a teacher, perhaps you can place a lucky cat in your classroom to help welcome all those eager young minds every morning. When its time for testing, let your students know the lucky cat wishes them luck! :)

Not everyone believes in the concepts of Feng Shui. But, It is really funny to see those who claim "Feng Shui does not work and is silly" to be making Feng Shui changes subconsciously with in their home or work environment.  We call a person such as that, " the closeted Feng Shuier". Recently I visited a family member who would always "dis" and make jokes about Feng Shui.  They would also tell me, "you are to optimistic, life is a serious thing"..blha blha blha.

I go back to visit after a couple of months and wow! What a transformation in energy and the spirit of my family member. I said, my goodness, your place looks great and feels even better! What did you do? They replied, I wanted to place certain items and use certain colors to lighten up may home and make it feel good.  Did I hear inspiration of Feng Shui ringing in my ears hahaha :)

Turns out this family member was listening after all, they just didn't want to admit it :)

The idea of patience is well known to anyone, for example, when starting a new business. Many questions will run through your mind. Am I doing the right thing? Leaving a "secured" job to start my own business, be my own boss, make my own rules and decisions? Can I handle that type of responsibility? Where do I even begin?!

I remember when my mother, Carole Provenzale, first started her company "Feng Shui Long Island NY" in 1997.  She was faced with these types of questions swirling around in her mind. She first heard about Feng Shui from a Native American guide in Se dona Arizona by the name Debi.  She was strongly informed that when "Feng Shui" started to make a presence in her life, she should follow that path.  In the quote by Robert Marston, he mentions the word "faith". My mother had complete faith in what she was about to do, even though others questioned her and even poked fun. Little did they or Carole know, that she was about to become a pioneer in helping to educate, transform peoples lives and spread the "word" about the true meaning of Feng Shui.  She took a leap of faith, never looked back and believed in herself.

Acceptance is the other ingredient.  Not everyone accepts the idea of change or new right away. The ideas and concepts of Feng Shui are still under the microscope, being picked and probed.  If unfamiliar with this way of looking at life, yes this can seem "scary". We talk about "reading energy", making your environment feel good and positive, space clearings...this is all foreign language to those who are unfamiliar with Feng Shui.  As consultants and teachers we need to accept that we will come across individuals who say "no", name call or just reacted strongly in their own way.  That is the reality. It all comes down to what you believe in as a individual that will help you better your lifestyle and you. 

In anything you do, being patient is Key. With Patience comes wisdom :)

Random Sundays/Speechless Sundays: A game of Pong anyone? By New York Feng Shui Consultant

I believe Atari Inc created that famous video game during the 70's called "Pong" :) They surly have come a long way. I remember when my brother and I were introduced to "Pong," it was the greatest invention ever...and still is :)

Here we go! Round two for "art in the park" on the village green in Farmingdale New York.  This is the second year Laura Cerrano of Feng Shui NY Long Island participated in the local event selling and educating individuals about Feng Shui and art.  This years the turn out was as grand as last and was a fun event for all :)

All the artist had great works of art on display with varieties of styles, subject matter and mediums. Also, all vendors and residents where provided with great music for the entire day.

How Happy are you in your Office? by Feng Shui NY consultant

When observing your office space, you need to really take a step back and think to yourself...do I enjoy working here? And do the people I work with feel happy? It is amazing how people can react to an environment that does not have the most up lifting atmosphere compared to an office filled with colors and items that promote happiness, balance and great communication.

The image above is of an office waiting room in NYC that is filled with great local New York artists paintings.  These artists are not shy to display their love for color, which is fantastic! Why? It helps to enliven and create a warm and welcoming space as soon as you exit the elevator.  This sets the tone for the rest of the office space, which was positive and energetic feeling.

When designing your office using the Feng Shui Principles, you really do not have to add a lot.  The New York City company placed three decent sized canvases by the front entrance with the intent to simply make visitors and employees more comfortable in the space.  His employees were surrounded by nothing but fun and playful artwork :) I know it put a smile on my face the whole time.

As the boss you need to make sure that you employees are happy. Why? Having happy employees equals better communication, which means they will be more productive and motivated to work with you. Having employees being more productive means you gain the desired income to help run your business.  It truly is a win win situation.  Respect your employees and treat them the way you wish to be treated.

Some Feng Shui Tips to enhance your Office:

• Bring living plants into your location. Remember, "let the outside in". Especially in Manhattan based offices, you need nature in your space to help balance the industrial scenery.  Plants can help bring life and growth to your business.
  
• Adding Artwork to help warm up your office. This is a great idea if you can not paint the walls.  Your choice in artwork depends on they type of atmosphere you are looking to create.  It can be calm, fun, motivating, a more natural approach...you can use photography or sculpture. 
• Allow your employees to decorate their space. It could be a cubical or office. By them wanting to decorate speaks highly of you, because that means they are truly happy where they work :)  
• Many times offices need to have a waiting area. Be sure to make it comfortable and inviting. Sometimes a bowl of candy is presented :)

Take the time to see if your office needs a little "re-energizing" with Feng Shui. If so you can implement some of these simple changes :)

History:

The San Gennaro in New York City is the longest-running, biggest and most revered religious outdoor festival in the United States.  During the early part of the 20th century, "Little Italy" served as a home away from home for Italian immigrants who came who came to America seeking to improve their lives.

This 11-day event features religious processions, colorful parades, free musical entertainment every day, a wide variety of ethnic foods to satisfy your taste buds, charming restaurants and cafes and even a world-famous cannoli-eating competition!

September 19th is the official Saint Day when a celebratory Mass is held in Most Precious Blood Church. After Mass the Statue of San Gennaro is carried from its permanent home in the church through the streets of Little Italy.

FUDO in the Brooklyn Botanical Garden NY

Please meet FUDO the Bonsai tree. This Bonsai had many centuries of life behind it. It was removed from its mountain home above the Itokawa river by an old man, Tahei, in 1858.  It eventually became part of the famous collection of the world-ronowed Bonsaiman. Mr. Kyuzo Murata, in Omiya, Japan.  Sadly, the tree died in 1971, some months after arriving from Japan. The estimated age of FUDO, 800 years old!

When you visit the Brooklyn Botanic Garden make sure to stop on in and visit FUDO and all the other Bonsai trees :)
