Feng Shui in Great Neck Long Island New York...Feng Shui and Wealth

The lovely Long Island town of Great Neck is located on the North Shore of Long Island NY in Nassau County.  I think of Great Neck as an "exotic" little town with a bustling Main Street and even by Long Island standards, it's an expensive place to live.

Both Feng Shui Long Island and Feng Shui Manhattan frequently get called to consult on a home or business located in the affluent town of Great Neck.  It's ideal for many residents for the feeling of Long Island as it's located close to the water while being only a very short train ride away from New York City.

Great Neck offers a variety of homes from Apartments to lovely Condos and very affluent homes.  Last fall Laura Cerrano and I did a Feng Shui Consultation there for a lovely home.  Our client was a businessman who was fortunate enough to not only live in Great Neck but to have his business there as well.

When a potential client calls for a Feng Shui Consultation over Wealth issues, they often want a Home and Business Consultation done.  While we do make that an option, we will often suggest they start with Feng Shui for their Home.  In Feng Shui we believe your Home SUPPORTS your business.

For reasons of privacy, we are only showing a side view of our client's home.  He was in the process of putting in a compost pile to do his part to "Go Green."  We are often asked in Feng Shui for the best placement for this and, in our own personal opinion, we want to keep it out of the WEALTH area which is the back Left-Hand corner of the property.

We often suggest moving it up.  As much as we want to help, there is no "perfect" area for Compost.  It is considered "Dead" Energy but we DO want to keep it away from Wealth and Relationship areas.  Our client was able to relate his loss of income from his formerly prospering business in Great Neck NY to the time he began his compost.

This photo shows the back Left Hand corner of his yard where it used to be and the new placement of where it was relocated to.  His business began to pick up again almost immediately.

Side Year:  Compost was in the back and being moved to the squared off section.  Recommendations for the Wealth Area for this Great Neck home included a plants that stay green all year, a Wind Chime and using the Accent Color for Wealth which is Purple.

The Exterior of your space should be given as much consideration during a Feng Shui consultation as the Interior.  Feng Shui is NOT "just" furniture placement; it is a lifestyle and it's Energy!

Warding Off the Evil Eye on Long Island NY:  A Feng Shui Long Island Perspective

As a Feng Shui Consultant on Long Island New York, I am often asked about another belief many of my clients have:  The EVIL Eye.   This subject has come up so often that I've written about it twice before:  New York Feng Shui and The EVIL Eye by Feng Shui NY Consultant Carole Provenzale 

Actually, if you read the last comment on this post it is from a woman named Regina.  She swears she has been afflicted by the Evil Eye for many years; she goes on to write that at one time someone was able to remove it but it came back.  It's a very sad comment.

This Feng Shui Client created Artwork for those who believed they were afflicted by the Evil Eye or didn't want to have a curse put on them.  He was from the Middle East and his Artwork was very popular over there because of such a strong belief in this horrendous curse.

With the ever growing population here on Long Island from out of the Country, I've recently noticed that items to ward off the Evil Eye are becoming popular.  On a recent trip to our local mall, Roosevelt Field Mall in Garden City NY, we happened to spot Jewelry and other items made specifically for this affliction.

Everything from Belts to lavish Necklaces and Bracelets.

It is said the Evil Eye can be placed on you either consciously or unconsciously just by someone looking at you with envy for something you have (or they perceive you have).  In Feng Shui we often use Peacock Feathers in our Space Clearings as the Eye of the Peacock is said to provide Protection.

Whatever your belief, symbols to ward off the Evil Eye ARE becoming more popular.  Here are some of the items we found in a kiosk in Roosevelt Field Mall in Garden City - Long Island - New York.

Feng Shui in Seaford - Long Island - New York:  The Necessity of Change by Feng Shui Long Island

Seaford Long Island New York is a lovely little town on the South Shore.  Its surrounding towns include Massapequa NY and Wantagh Long Island which includes our beautiful Jones Beach.

Part of the Seaford NY homes rest on lovely little canals while some are further North.  It was in this Long Island town of Seaford that I had written about this Long Island Feng Shui Consultation for their home.

They were facing the threat of foreclosure and called Feng Shui Long Island & NY in for a full Feng Shui Consultation.  It's sad to see lovely Long Island facing foreclosures and the last thing I thought I would see here on this beautiful Island.  But they hit and hit hard and sadly, continue to hit.  This was the Original post:  The SHAME of Foreclosures ---  Feng Shui in Long Island NY and some HOPE

This Long Island couple wanted two things from their Feng Shui Consultation.  They wanted desperately to save their home and my Feng Shui client wanted better health so he could return to work.  He was a prominent and proud man who would not accept any offers of help but he believes in Feng Shui.

I had heard from this couple on and off for a while and then the calls stopped coming.  I feared the worst, that they had lost their lovely home in Seaford to a foreclosure.  Finally, I picked up the phone to call.  His wife answered and was delighted to hear from me.  They are working now with a loan modification  and her husband had healed AND returned to the job they were holding open for him!

I couldn't have been happier to hear such wonderful news.  "Feng Shui Works" my client said although she mentioned there was still some tight budgeting ahead.  The Feng Shui Cures and suggestions I gave my client were not expensive OR difficult at all.  They were all very simple and low to no cost things to change the Energy in their Seaford NY Home and could have easily been accomplished in a week.

Curiously, I asked her if she'd made all the recommendations.  She told me no, she hadn't---she said she'd done about HALF of the Feng Shui Advice we had given her.  She didn't give me a reason but I couldn't help but wonder:  What would have happened in their lives if they had taken ALL the suggestions?

If your Feng Shui Consultant in New York (or any place else) makes suggestions, they will always give you a reason behind it.  They should fit with your Décor and your budget and you should make ALL the recommendations.  Working with HALF of Feng Shui suggestions will only get you half of what you are seeking to achieve.

It's been too long to re-advise my Seaford Long Island Feng Shui Client.  How I would have LOVED to hear the results if they'd taken all the suggestions!

600 BLOGS on ACTIVERAIN??  And WHY Did I Do THAT??

When I hit the submit button on this post, I will just have written my 600^th blog.  What in the WORLD was I thinking?  All that time and energy and what did I get for it? 

I went back to look over some of those old blogs where I had no pictures and forgot to hit spell check.  I found my diary over the last three years.  What I had gone through, things I have been able to share with my Activerain members, Success Stories I had almost forgotten; I remembered friends who no longer post and trying to learn as much as I could to help improve my ‘Google Juice.' 

I thought, too, of all the opportunities I've had because of Activerain.  I remembered how people encouraged me when things were very difficult and people that were thrilled to hear of my successes.  It's all there...and I'm still here.  IF YOU'RE A "NEWBIE" DON'T GIVE UP!!

If it were not for Brad Anderson   and his very informative "Hyper-Local" Posts giving us specific information (which I studied then and continue to) I would not STILL be at the top of Google under such searches as "New York Feng Shui Business"  or "Feng Shui a New York Corporation."

 It's Restaurant Week in New York City:  Feng Shui Long Island's Favorite Pics 

Restaurant Week in New York City!  Who doesn't love this time of year?  It's a chance to try a new place that you've wanted to eat in or return to an old favorite of yours.  This year Restaurant Week in NYC is being held January 25^th through February 7^th but don't wait-many are taking reservations right NOW.

As a Feng Shui Consultant I am often in New York City but my fascination with this City goes back many years and I've been fortunate, through the years, to eat at most of the BEST places in New York City.  I've been to almost ALL of the restaurants I've selected with the exception of two I've heard rave reviews on and would really love to try.

Sadly, some of my favorites are NOT participating this year : (  Perhaps the economy isn't quite as bad as we thought.  In any case, it gives me the opportunity to try a restaurant people are talking about:  Butter Restaurant  From what I've heard about this place, it's GOT to be good! 

There is a price fixe menu and some restrictions apply at different restaurants in Manhattan.  Lunch is set at $24.07 per person and dinner is $35.00.  Here's a list of the others and a few notes to go along with them:

Atlantic Grill (menu)

Water's Edge Restaurant (menu)

The Russian Tea Room (menu)  This was remodeled several years ago but they left all the glitz and glamour.  I have eaten there several times through the years and was never disappointed in their food or their service.

Redeye Grill (menu)  As much as I enjoy this place, there is always a wait.  Sometimes a very LONG wait.  Hopefully with reservations that won't happen.

Brasserie 8 1/2  My favorite of the French Restaurants in New York City (and there are plenty of them!).

'21' Club (menu)  aka The Jockey Club.  An interesting RUMOR about this place is that it's one of the few clubs that thrived during the great depression.  It's said to have an underground "wine" area where the rich and very famous were able to indulge in their pleasures during the prohibition.  It's a New York City Landmark, having been around for 80 years.

The Oak Room at The Plaza  Well, it's not "THE" Oak Room, it's the "new" Oak Room.  I have to say I miss the original.  This place is smaller and the menu is completely different.  I was disappointed when I ate there.  Sunday Brunch, however pricey, is still well worth it.

One if by Land, Two if by Sea  This place too has been around forever.  You KNOW that means it's good. It's also reported to be haunted which could make for an interesting evening!

Le Cirque  I had eaten at this place in it's old location although it still has good Zagat stars.  I did love the food.  However, since I wasn't "someone" we were delegated to the far reaches of the restaurant.  The food was good...the service was stuffy.  VERY Stuffy.  Still, I'm putting it down because you will enjoy their new menu and never know who you'll ‘rub elbows with'  in here : )

Il Cantinori Restaurant  Good food, friendly people.  Large dishes so there's always enough to take home.

Central Park Boathouse  My absolute FAVORITE in the summer (especially if you're fortunate enough to get a table right on the lake).  The food and drinks here are terrific.  Just inside of Central Park, I have always found this place to be a delight!

And if you're not on a budget?  If money is no object and you can eat anywhere you want, what would I suggest?  The Rainbow Room will always be my all time favorite.   I'd go there in a New York Minute!  Spectacular views, an extensive menu, a revolving dance floor and a full orchestra.  It's absolutely enchanting!

Can't afford that and happen to be in the heart of Times Square?  Try Bubba Gumps Shrimp House.  I have eaten there on more then one occasion and expected the old "tourist trap" type of place.  It is all that but it is also GREAT Shrimp!  To get to the restaurant you climb 7 or 8 staircases so when you're seated, you're actually looking down right into Times Square.  It's a Neon Night for sure!

Those are some of my favorite places to eat, straight from a New York City Feng Shui Consultant.  Try one or a few.

DRAINS IN FENG SHUI:  What one Feng Shui New York Consultant thinks:

Laura and I have been working on a new Feng Shui building on Long Island New York that has been a bit...DRAINING.  While initially scheduled to open in 2008, Long Island New York winters can stop construction in it's tracks.  So can waiting for permits and all the other issues associated with a new construction.

Feng Shui in New Construction along with Interior Decorating can bring up some issues.  The principles of both don't always agree.  One example of this is in Interior Design placing objects in sets of threes are recommended and they are different sizes.

In Feng Shui we think of TWOS.  Pairs of objects to symbolize and enhance relationships.  They should also be of the same size so there are no "power play" or control issues.  Another thing Feng Shui Consultants and Interior Designers differ on is the placement of Mirrors.

Feng Shui is rather strict in it's placement of Mirrors.  Whatever they reflect, they double the Energy of the object.  It is wonderful to have a mirror reflect the outside to pull in natural light and nature for example.  However, it is considered BAD Feng Shui to have a mirror facing a DRAIN.

There is nothing complicated about this issue to me.  In Feng Shui, the meaning of drains is exactly what it sounds like.  Drains can drain our Wealth, Health, Relationships or Career.  It's a popular saying whether you believe in Feng Shui or not:  "There goes MORE money down the drain" or something to that effect.

On a Long Island Feng Shui Consultation in Holtsville NY last week, I saw the PERFECT drain cover.  I couldn't believe my EYES.  My wise Holtsville New York Feng Shui client had completed a renovation in 2005 and aware of the Feng Shui implications of Drains, she had chosen this type of drain cover for ALL of her bathrooms which allowed her to put in whatever size mirrors she wanted.

How I WISH I had seen this before the Interior Designer disagreed so strenuously over this issue.  And a HUGE thank you to my wonderful Long Island New York Feng Shui Client for allowing me to show it...you might want to consider it when YOU undergo renovations.

Memorial to Tavern on the Green, Central Park New York by Feng Shui New York Consultant Carole Provenzale

Another New York City Landmark Institution is gone.  I couldn't be sorrier to see it go.  It was our own Grace Safrin Indiana : Porter County : Valparaiso
 who emailed me to let me know that Tavern on the Green would be closing.  I hadn't heard and knew that Grace and Jeff had some very special memories of their time in New York City, Central Park and Tavern on the Green; it was the spectacular place that Jeff had chosen to propose to her!

Tavern on the Green in New York City had been around for 75 years and was probably one of the Cities best known restaurants.  Located right in Central Park at West 67^th Street and Central Park West, it had spectacular views of Central Park if you were seated outside and incredible artwork and amazing glass images inside.

Well known for its Tiffany Chandeliers and somewhat "odd" but colorful objects, this historic landmark had become 8 million dollars in debt in just the last few years.  It closed its doors for good on New Years Eve, Dec. 31^st 2009.  Everything from its extensive collections of Stained Glass to all the pots and pans that have served many actors and other lovers of this restaurant are now gone, having been put on the Auction block.

When The Plaza was going co-op, I happened to be in New York City that day on a Feng Shui Consultation.  I was heading up to Central Park when I saw a line...and went to investigate.  It was the last day they were selling off their beautiful, extensive items from the furniture to The infamous Oak Room dishes and I was able to purchase one of the few remaining items....an old chafing dish.  I was delighted to have what I considered to be a "small piece of history."

The Grand Chandelier that graced the entrance  of Tavern on the Green went for only $15,000 and the still operating Vintage Wurlitzer Jukebox only $7.000.  Most of the items auctioned went well below their estimates.  The Name of TAVERN ON THE GREEN is estimated to cost 19 million dollars and is currently in dispute to see if the new owners have the right to take the name as well.

Many of us will miss this spectacular New York City Landmark restaurant.  You can catch glimpses of it in many movies filmed there including "It's My Turn" with Michael Douglas and Jill Clayburgh. This New York City Icon will surely be missed.
