I was going through some old VHS tapes the other day hoping to be able to part with some.  I have so many and although I still have the player for them I don't use them very often.

One was from an old video store; I'd apparently racked up so many late fees, I bought it and it had a sticker on it that said "Be KIND --  REWIND."  It made me recall that often when I rented tapes, I'd have to rewind them as the person who had rented it before hadn't bothered.

It's sad to me they had to put a sticker on it to ask their clients to be thoughtful.  I flashed back to what seemed only a few years ago when there was no road rage (New York now leads the country in the number of Road Rage "incidents), no ‘home invasions' no gangs (at least that we were aware of) on Long Island, no drive by shootings and wondered what had happened in the last 10 years or less that completely changed this lovely Island around?

Which leads to the point of this post (yes, I have one : )  If you are stuck on a decision or unsure of exactly what to do in a particular situation do you take a few minutes to REWIND?  I go back through the entire Feng Shui Consultation to see if I may have missed something.....anything that might help a client. 

More often then not, I don't find anything but there are those rare occasions when I will think of another thing to try.  In doing a REWIND, we just might find a small oversight or error that might change circumstances around completely.

When I am working with a client on a Feng Shui Consultation, my Energy is focused on THEM.  I want them to be happy with the recommendations, I want them to understand why I am suggesting them, I want them to know that my intent and energy is focused on THEM and THEIR needs.

I would estimate that about 35 % of my clients at this time are from REFERRALS from happy clients.  I’ve built a name and a good reputation. 

When the thought to have a website built for Laura as a Graduation gift came to me, I initially thought of my webmaster.  He was busy and it didn’t get done.  I’d purchased the domain name of her choice and thought of Marti.  Marti designed my outside blog which so many people loved and I already knew his dedication to making his clients HAPPY with what he is creating.  marti garaughty : The Art Of Marketing You

I also knew of his quick responses and his amazing patience.  It didn’t take me long to contact him.  First let me say that Marti has no idea I’m writing this…and although he knows a few of the events which have taken place, that’s for another blog. 

Laura, of course, was involved.  I was also involved and we both asked Marti to design a custom site for her.  Again, he is a PLEASURE to work with.  He’d design something, change it around, give us ideas, change it again and send it for review.  We wanted some specific pictures included in the site but they just didn’t FIT the design.

Marti is an artist.  He does NOT disappoint.  I know when I am stuck on a particular thing, it’s about all I could think about and from Marti’s emails, I believe he felt the same way.  A late night email confirmed my suspicions:  “I came up with an idea I think you’ll like…will send it soon.”  (I’m paraphrasing here  : )

Marti put many hours of time and thought into this…and, whether he believes me or not, the Energy that followed the site going live is a story into itself for another day.

I do NOT refer people I haven’t worked with or know someone who has worked with them.  I am careful with referrals because I believe they are a reflection of you.  So when I refer someone, you can just BET I’m happy with their work.  Marti is not just a Blog Artist, Website Designer, or creates Artwork at it’s finest, he’s a dedicated person who truly goes the extra MILES to make his clients happy.  Thank you, Marti.  And I will post those amazing updates including some things you haven’t heard about since that site went LIVE.

Are YOU “Out of Bounds” with your Clients?  Feng Shui Queens NY.

As a Feng Shui Consultant in New York, I am always careful not to cross any “boundaries” with my clients.  Often times after a Feng Shui Consultation we will keep in touch and it’s not at all unusual for us to become friends.

It is, in fact, one of the nicest parts of this lovely art of Feng Shui.

Still, there are boundaries.  I sometimes wonder if I asked a client/friend for something if I would be “crossing the line.”  I don’t want to do that so I simply Don’t ASK.

My thinking has changed a bit over the years and most particularly due to a recent incident.  Years ago I had a contact from someone who worked for the hit TV show “Crossing Over” with John Edward.  If you’ve read some previous posts, I am a huge fan of his.  It had crossed my mind to ask my client if she knew of any way I could obtain tickets—I had tried unsuccessfully for almost two years.

I somehow never felt it was the right thing to do. We did, however, become friends and still are today.  We will email, speak on the phone and meet for lunch or dinner when possible.  Today I would likely have no problem asking her but then it was still a “Professional” relationship.

An email she sent one day almost sent me off my chair.  She’d asked what I was doing and what I’d been up to….and included in the last sentence “If you ever want tickets to the show, just let me know.”  She didn’t know I had been trying for SO long and when I accepted her incredible offer she asked me why I hadn’t simply ASKED…..

Some of you that also read my posts probably know one of my favorite things to do is go to attend concerts.  I book as many as I can reasonably afford and then I book more.  This year I tried to make Very Careful selections for the Summer.  I chose Gordon Lightfoot, my all time favorite Jackson Browne, Crosby, Stills and Nash, Fleetwood Mac (yes, they all played together again!) and Bonnie Raitt. 

Again, I was WAY over my limit.  WAY, WAY over : )  Then it was announced that Huey Lewis and the News were going to be playing.  Goodness, if you have ever seen them you would never forget the ENERGY they generate!  And if you haven’t, I can promise you that you won’t sit down. 

I have been working on a project FOR someone for a long time.  It’s BUSINESS.  But I know they have access to tickets from the place having the concert…..Dare I ask my Boss??  Much as I like to think I’m an independent “agent” I am really an employee. 

One morning, I took a chance and emailed my ‘boss.’  A few days later I came in to a message that said “Carole, your Huey tickets are burning a hole in my pocket.”  I was THRILLED.  I couldn’t thank him enough and when I spoke to him, I realized something---he was HAPPY to have gotten me the tickets, just as my Feng Shui Client had been.  I had really created my own “boundaries.”  People that you have helped along the way are only too happy to help you right back….if you give them a chance.

New York Feng Shui and Eco Friendly ART

In 1996 I was deeply immersed in my Feng Shui Study Course here on Long Island New York.  In addition to the intensives on Feng Shui we were introduced to a subject called Bio-Biologie.  Long before Al Gore came out and spoke about “Going Green” we were learning about such things as ‘environmentally friendly” materials, paints and all natural rugs that don’t outgas (often times for YEARS to come), electromagnetic energy and the hazards of being exposed to it to incorporate methods for our clients to live a healthier, happier and more productive life through both Feng Shui AND bio-biologie.

It is a science and study developed in Germany and brought to the United States.  I have been as careful as possible since then to buy as natural as I can….in 1996, however, it seemed no one had heard of it or what I was talking about.

I remember doing a Feng Shui Consultation for a client in Oyster Bay Long Island.  She was having a total renovation done of both floors in her home and had called for a Feng Shui Consultation on the new use of rooms and areas.  I’d mentioned this science to her and she looked into it; she said she believed every word of it and asked her contractor to find out about it as well.  She ended up with the most environmentally friendly home as she could back then.

Recycling wasn’t at all popular back then with the exception of soda cans.  In Feng Shui Art, we often think now of common, everyday products that are disposed of as junk and made into Artwork.  There is currently a heated debate on Eastern Long Island over someone using other people’s “junk” to create HIS type of “artwork” on HIS property.  His neighbors call it an eyesore…he calls it ART. 

The trend is growing here.  On a recent Feng Shui Consultation in Levittown Long Island I spotted a new homeowner building HIS new artwork.  My client lived next door and when I asked her how she felt about it she said:  “It’s his house and his yard, he can do whatever he likes.”  What a wonderful attitude!

Sometimes we ALL look for “trash” to turn into treasures.  I happen to love art in ALL forms and wouldn’t have an issue with this either.  I’m sure it will grow and will be curious to see if it offends anyone later on.

A Feng Shui Long Island Consultant at the US OPEN Bethpage NY 2009

While preparing for a Feng Shui Consultation in Smithtown Long Island NY on Friday I watched in surprise as Laura Cerrano grabbed the camera and went running out the door.  She didn’t say a word and I wondered where she could be headed.

We sometimes speak about being in the RIGHT place at the RIGHT time.  We almost never speak about the FEELINGS to suddenly do something that wasn’t planned or even thought of—and following those feelings.  Intuition, it’s priceless!

The US OPEN at The Bethpage Golf Course is scheduled to open tomorrow.  A word about this Gold course is that it is so LARGE, part of it is in Farmingdale Long Island while the majority is in Bethpage and still some of it runs into another Long Island town called Plainview.  In a word, it’s BIG!

AND Challenging.  The Bethpage Gold Course contains something called THE BLACK COURSE.  A scary place even for the BEST Golfers in the World.

Laura later told me something told her to go…it’s a good thing, too : )  Arriving near the course, she found the main road leading there closed.  She decided to park and walk the rest of the way.  She waited outside the first hole for a little while and was just about to leave when she saw a crowd of people headed HER way.  She knew something was up.

Although there was a recent Tiger “sighting” right here on Long Island, he was nowhere to be seen on Friday.  Still, some others came out to try the Gold Course including Michael Jorden, “Big” Ben Roethlisberger and Justin Timberlake. 

It was an eventful morning in Farmingdale and Laura managed to copy some wonderful shots of the celebrities practicing their golf for the BIG EVENT.

If you are coming to Long Island for this incredible event, I will soon post a list of MY favorite places to eat and MANY more photos!  Unfortunately, there is not much left in Farmingdale (who had a GOLF store that closed just a few short months ago as well as D’Angelos, one of the BEST places to eat around and now the Country Bakery is also gone after only two months in business; that had been our first bakery in YEARS : (

Feng Shui in Long Island New York:  How DO you Attract the Helpful People?

As a Feng Shui Practitioner in New York, something I ALWAYS address with Client’s is their HELPFUL PEOPLE AREA.  In all my years of practicing this lovely art of ‘Mindful Placement,’ I have always found this particular area to be the most effective in beginning to change the Energy in a Space, whether it be a home or a business.

We’ve ALL got some wonderful Helpful People in our lives.  Some of us have many while others only a few; it doesn’t matter because in Feng Shui, what we want to do is attract MORE.  It almost never fails.

If you think about it, just ONE Helpful person can help bring almost anything you need or want into your life.  A new job (Career) or opening that they pass along to you, a handyman or painter…..even a new love interest.  When we stop and think of our Helpful People, we ACKNOWLEDGE them.  And then we leave room for MORE helpful people to come in.

It makes perfect sense to me; we ALL need good friends who truly care about us and those that we know would help us out of ANY situation if called upon.  Those that are never far away—the very people you can Depend on.  Honestly, who doesn’t want more of these people in our lives?  These treasures come in all shapes and sizes....if you look around, life can be filled with them!

 You CAN meet new Helpful People every day :) !

Honor the ones you have….and more will come.  It does help to tie an action into this which for some of my clients comes easily while others find it difficult but SPEAK TO PEOPLE.  It doesn’t matter where you are, TALK.  You’d be surprised how many will respond to you and more likely then not, something will come up in the conversation that may help you out a great deal!

Recently, a Feng Shui Client on Long Island NY made a change to this area.  Some of her friends already knew she was seeking “Mr. Right” but had no one they thought would be a good match for her.  While out shopping, she saw a cashier she knows from shopping in the store.  A friend of the cashier’s happened to be there as well and a simple introduction turned into a Love Match.  She added this person to her list of Helpful People : )

While some Feng Shui Consultants use a slightly different Bagua, the INTENTION and results are the same.  What made me think of writing another post about Helpful People AND the benefits of them was a post recently added to the group Feng Shui for Real Estate which was formed by Bob and Carolin Benjamin.  Feng Shui for Real Estate

As a New York Feng Shui Consultant, I sometimes wonder what I would be doing-right now-if I hadn't followed my love of Feng Shui.  I wonder where I would be and how happy I would be doing something else instead of the very thing that I LOVE.

I received a call from a potential client today about a Feng Shui Consultation in a part of New York I don't normally go to because of the distance.  As we spoke, I could HEAR her voice "light up" at the thought of having a consultation.  Though she's read about Feng Shui for a very long time, many of the things confuse her.

She has just purchased a new home and is waiting for her closing date---and finally going to have her first Feng Shui Consultation.   As I heard her speak, I too was affected.  No matter how long you practice this lovely art, many things amaze me still:  The wonderful results my clients have, the phone calls and emails and the incredible changes that take place in their lives that they are kind enough to share with me.

No doubt this person heard it in MY voice as well.  Whether we are Real Estate Agents who are seeing the market through a very challenging time or a Home Stager who has had difficulty getting the word out that Staging is essential to successful sales, we stick it out and do what we LOVE.

I read so many blogs on Activerain and I've read so many struggles....and have seen, over and over, that those of us who LOVE WHAT WE DO STAY WITH WHAT WE DO.  It's a part of us, not just what defines us.

Feng Shui in New York-Another "Haunting"??

Practicing Feng Shui for so many years in New York, I never know what I'm going to come across next.  It can have its triumphs and its challenges.  Saturday was a Challenge Day.

Laura Cerrano and I pulled up to an absolutely lovely home in Nassau County Long Island NY.  It's actually just the kind of home I would buy if I were looking for one.  It was perfectly manicured, and inside had a beautiful layout, a new kitchen and all hardwood floors.

We sat down to discuss why our client had called a Feng Shui Consultant and there were several issues she wanted to address.  It seems that she'd read a few books on Feng Shui and was fascinated with it and had wanted a consultation for a long time.

While walking through the home and discussing certain changes we were focusing on, she mentioned an incident that had occurred in one of the rooms.  She was working in her office and had "felt" something brush by her.  She looked around, didn't see anything and went back to work but shortly after, a family member came in who had also felt SOMETHING.

Over time, several people had mentioned that they had heard footsteps through the house.  She had never heard them and after a while, assumed whatever it was had gone.  I didn't think much more about it and went on to discuss other changes.

The Blessings in Feng Shui are very powerful....most of my clients can feel a change in the Energy or sometimes even in themselves. Shortly after the home was blessed inside and out, our client and Laura stepped outside to address one final issue while I began to pack up.  That's when I heard it.....FOOTSTEPS.   Whatever it was hadn't gone.....

I stayed inside and actually watched the floor as I heard them get closer, then the sounds fading and then getting stronger and louder again.  I did not at ALL feel threatened by it but to me it almost made a statement "This is MY home." 

I debated whether to tell my client.  That's exactly one of the things the Blessings are for and should take care of it.  Sometimes, however, advanced cures and blessings are needed.  I wondered if I should wait and see and stay in close contact.

I struggled with it during the night and by morning had decided she needed to know---I HATED having to tell her but I called her.  She didn't sound surprised and said on occasion she still felt things, though never as strong as that one night.  She'd already felt Energy changes, she said, from the Consultation and we decided to wait.  If she feels anything else, there are ADVANCED TRANSENDENTAL CURES that can be used.

I know many people do not believe in Spirit Energy.  They should be happy they have not experienced it.  I have on more then a few occasions in different ways and it's unsettling to say the least.

Ghosts or Spirits are NOT something you have to live with.  Feng Shui Consultants are trained in having them move on so your space can truly be YOUR OWN.

Long Island NY Feng Shui---What NOT to Do

As a New York based Feng Shui Consultant, I'm never quite sure where I'm going to be or what I'm going to find.  It's interesting that some of my Feng Shui Clients need only subtle changes in their homes or businesses.  Still others need more-and on occasion the changes can be time consuming. 

A client called me to Feng Shui their home in lovely Islip Long Island NY.  It was a lovely home and after meeting the couple I asked for a place to sit down to discuss issues they may be having, a history of the house and many other questions.

And saw this:

For those that don't remember, in Feng Shui that is the WEALTH area (gua) of the outside.  We always access the Energy indoors and out and I hoped there would not be much to do in other parts of the home. 

Firewood is useful and necessary....it is also DEAD ENERGY and not something we want to keep in our MONEY area.  There was also so much of it....consider the energy of heavy objects that can weigh down areas and stop them from moving. 

There were, unfortunately, many changes my clients needed to make to address their areas of concern but fortunately none were difficult and none were costly.  When we went outside I had already explained the Bagua and given them copies so they could learn how to use it.  And when they realized it was their Wealth area I saw dismay...my clients told me that just the DAY BEFORE my visit they had their own tree cut down and had decided that might be the best place to store it.

I had to recommend that they move it and we chose another area.  We also suggested they cover it with plastic or something so it didn't show.  This is something we DON'T want to see in Wealth-Dead Energy.  As Feng Shui Practitioners we DO want to see Evergreens, a plant that stays green all year.  You'll also want to add an accent color there of purple.
