Feng Shui and Pets:  Pure FIRE Energy by Feng Shui Long Island & New York City

I am often asked by my clients of Feng Shui in Long Island and New York about pets, sometimes prior to choosing one.  They wonder how or if it will change the Energy in their home.  If they feel things are going well, will it hurt them?  Or cause them to have better "luck."  I never know if I can never be objective on this because I love animals so much but I do tell what I have leaned not only in Feng Shui School but during all my years as a Feng Shui Consultant on Long Island.

The addition of a Pet or ANY living thing will always change the Energy in a home.  Pets are pure FIRE energy....and although many are sleeping half the time, I believe they add an element that is all too often missing in our homes and sometimes our lives.  All pets (even FISH) give us energy and vitality, such as the color RED does.  To me, it is an addition of wonderful energy.

I relate it to the lack of the color red I see missing from so many homes.  And though It may sound hard to believe, small changes in balancing the energies with all the elements is an important Feng Shui principle.  Here on Long Island I have especially noticed all the happiness and liveliness when people are decorating their homes for the holidays....out come the Red bows and decorations and we're out and about shopping, having holiday parties and generally very happy.

Soon after, in January, the decorations come down; pretty soon we are feeling kind of "blah."  We're not out playing anymore, we are dreading the rest of the winter and our moods just change to a more somber one.

Pets-and the color RED add a necessary element to our lives, particularly pets on a number of levels in Feng Shui. So the next time you are tempted to add a new "Fluffy" or "Rover" to the mix, go right ahead!

Want a Perfect Day?  In Feng Shui we Plan on It!

Reading one of Katerina's posts recently struck a nerve.  She said in her lists of things you can do to help yourself is to stop watching the NEWS.  We all want to be informed, we all want to know what is going on-but how many of us have become "News Junkies"?  How Do You View What You See and Hear?

I was, years ago.  It went from just the nightly news (certainly not the BEST way to go to sleep!) but to keeping CNN on ALL the time.  I heard It all and saw it all and didn't even realize the toll it was taking not only on my emotional but physical life.  Until I stopped....Cold Turkey.  Under orders from the Energy Healer I had been working with at the time.

I was also taught that in place of the news at night to do certain things that will help not only a Feng Shui Consultant but anyone.  Pre-plan your day.  Think of what you have to do the following day and envision things all moving along well.  There's not nearly as much traffic, you received a contact from someone interested in your services, there was no line at the grocery store....whatever you have to do that day.

And repeat it again in the morning for the next 5 or 10 minutes.  If you believe that Energy follows THOUGHT and INTENTION, you have already started to change the energy into a positive flow for the following day.  Going over it again in the morning helps you confirm it. 

This is not to say that every day everything will go as expected....but the majority of them do.  And the things you weren't planning on that pop up are more likely to be GOOD things because you have sent into motion good energy around you-which in turn can very well set it off in those you meet.

It might sound too simple to be true but it's what many Feng Shui Consultants believe it-including at least two that live in Nassau County : )  Enjoy your day, you planned it!

A New York Feng Shui Consultant Makes Newsday

Or I should say WILL make the paper.  Feng Shui Long Island & New York City had an interview the other evening with Newsday, our Long Island paper.  Whew...I wasn't sure if I would ever make it!  Although I've had mentions in several papers including the New York Times (who contacted me from a COMMENT I'd made on someone's post right here on Activerain), this time it won't be just a mention.

Newsday is a wonderful newspaper to get in and it's been on Long Island forever....well, a very long time.  I had been fortunate enough to have a good friend that works there and he was kind enough to give me a personal tour of the place and it's history and origins,  It was fascinating, so much so that when my daughter Laura came home from college I asked if she could get a tour as well.

It is fascinating being "inside" the paper.  Parts of the "old" Newsday have been preserved while still moving forward as technology evolved.  I wrote a post about it a log time ago and it shows some wonderful pictures:  An inside look at NEWSDAY, Long Island's Newspaper since 1940

Newsday runs an article every Friday on Makeovers.   Many are DIY but this time they wanted a Feng Shui Makeover.  I have done many in New York City recently but not many on Long Island.  Although I have given many, many Feng Shui Consultations here on Long Island recently, most did not require what I would consider a "makeover."  Several clients declined that was a true makeovers (for privacy reasons) and I had another client I had done just one month ago.

In that time, however, she's taken a trip AND had a prescheduled surgery.  We only made over one room and she didn't want to have to purchase anything-using only the items that she had.  She agreed to do the interview and I was thrilled.  It is just one room and I sure with I could post the pictures now but can't.  The article will come out in August and I'm thrilled...more for the fact that my daughter, Laura Cerrano-Feng Shui Consultant had done the redesign with me and will be in the paper as well.

What do they say about hard work....and persistence?  I have always believed when you follow your heart, nothing but good things will come back to you if you truly have the determination to stick it out.  "Don't Quit":  One of my favorite poems that I found just at a time that I needed it : )

As if that wasn't good enough news to share, here's the best:  I just got a call from my client, she landed the job that she wanted.  Five minutes from her house and making more money then she ever expected.  Even BETTER?  I was the FIRST call on her list.  I love this "job" of Feng Shui!

Long Island Houses SPEAK in Feng Shui

As a Feng Shui Consultant on Long Island and New York City, I recently was called to a client's home in the lovely Long Island town of Oyster Bay New York.  I am called to work there often-and I play there as well!  A New York Consultant's Choice for Reconnecting with Nature by Feng Shui Long Island & New York City

This particular Feng Shui Client had not revealed much information to me over the phone, although I had asked.  She just said she had an interest in Feng Shui and wanted a consultation.  When I arrived at her home that day, I was prepared to ask her some questions and TEACH the principles and topics of Feng Shui so she would be able to apply it to her office space without having to call me twice.  I make it a point to teach my clients Feng Shui in an understandable manner so they can understand the Feng Shui consultation and be able to imploy Feng Shui into other spaces.

She had a different idea in mind; this has actually happened to me before and I find it interesting to have a client ask me to "Read their Home" from a Feng Shui Perspective.  She didn't want to give out any information, she wanted to ask ME to see if I could see the issues in her life.

Homes and Businesses DO "Speak."  They tell us a lot about the person and their families and we can look at all areas of their lives and see with what I call Feng Shui Eyes where things in their lives might not be doing as well as they can be.  We can see where the energy is blocked, we can see unadressed areas, we can see much more in Feng Shui then they would ever expect.

Starting with the exterior, I realized she had a garage door and was not using her Front Door (The Mouth of Chi).  If you've read some of my other posts, you'll see why I believe the front door is so important:  Are You Blocking Your own CHI? Shame on you ...

I also noticed her relationship area was bare.  It had a squared off fence but nothing in it-it was, in fact, EMPTY.  Her money corner showed me that while they were most likely doing well enough, there didn't seem to be much money for the "extras" they wanted.  It had a small plant but not an evergreen, so it was likely from a Feng Shui perspective that they money had up and down times.

Inside the house the only area I saw that had some heavy clutter was directly in the Center of the home.  We are careful about the CENTER of our spaces, it relates to health.  She did not have a home office or it would have been interesting to evaluate that on it's own....something we always spend a great deal of time on if you make some/part or ALL of your money from home.

So how does a Feng Shui Consultant reveal her findings?  Tactfully, for sure (which is always a challenge for Sagittarians who suffer significantly from "hoof in mouth" disease).  The way I put it was relatively simple:  From a FENG SHUI CONSULTANT'S eyes, her relationship wasn't the best it could be....and she admitted that was true.  I showed her the emptiness of her areas inside and out and I could see it struck a nerve.

Financial issues:  Well, they had enough to pay the bills but not enough for the other things in life they wanted.  She told me they'd been discussing a long awaited vacation but had decided they just couldn't afford it.  And health:  if there was someone in the house either not feeling at their best or "stuck."  Clutter can relate to health issues especially when found in their health area.  Her children had been coming down with unusual illnesses quite frequently, she told me.  Pointing things out to her from a Feng Shui Consultant's opinion, every one of the topics I had addressed were true.

And while she was more then a bit surprised, I explained how her surrounding reflected her life and what was going on in it.  Then SHE was able to see her home from a Feng Shui Perspective.  Houses, Buildings, Apartments, Businesses and Corporations all do "Speak."  And when you listen to what they're telling you, you can make changes and help to remedy a situation.  It was definitely a fun Feng Shui Challenge in the lovely town of Oyster Bay Long Island New York.

A  (Manhattan) New York Feng Shui Consultant Says Live WITHOUT Fear!

As a Feng Shui Consultant on both Long Island and in New York City, I do often get contacts from those wishing a Feng Shui Consultation at a distance.  Several months ago I worked with a lovely client in California and when she sent me the photos of her home, I saw many things I would like to change from a Feng Shui Perspective.

Many Feng Shui clients have complete trust in me and I am always grateful for that.  It allows me to do the best possible job I can for them.  One recent client in Downtown New York City was very reluctant to make the changes I was suggesting to her but she listened with what I had to say and we redid her room into a complete makeover.  She absolutely LOVES the way it "FEELS" now and credits me for it.  It's not me, it's my client's ability to trust in what I have to say looking at things from Feng Shui Eyes

Even though the miles separated us from New York to California, this client also was open and receptive to my feelings of Feng Shui in her home.  We changed many objects and she was able to "let go" of much of the heavy furniture that I felt was keeping her "stuck."  I am always careful to speak carefully, some of these objects may be things they love.  As it turns out, the very things I was focused on that I felt needed to go were the things left over from her divorce.

"They DON'T feel good" she told me one day.  And although money was a concern, she let them go.  We made many, many changes both inside and outside her home and a call from her the other night was a Feng Shui Consultants' dream call:

She told me that in the last few months her life (and that of her child) had drastically changed for the better.  Among the changes:  Money has started to flow in from different sources, her son has radically improved in ALL areas of his life, she's interviewing for the "perfect" job, she's met someone who she is very excited about and Helpful People "are everywhere."

Such a radical difference that she almost can't believe it.  She asked me a question and I picked up just a touch of Fear---"Things are SO good, can they possibly STAY this way"?

Not if you have doubts I told her.  She got where she is today through hard work on her own part and changing her thoughts-she allowed herself to be open to all the new energy.  It's difficult for some people to believe that what surrounds you can have such an impact on your life-difficult unless you've experienced it.  And then you are forever a believer in Feng Shui.  Don't let the FEAR creep in, your THOUGHTS  create Energy.  Your Intentions create Energy.  It's difficult (if not downright impossible) to stay in an "UP" mode all the time but with conscious effort, you CAN change your thoughts, your Intentions and the Energy.

The Energy of Homes from a Feng Shui Perspective

Last night I wrote about the sometimes imperceptible energy that children feel in a home.  Often times as adults we don't get the same feelings.  Feng Shui & Children: A New York Feng Shui Consultant's Thoughts by Feng Shui Long Island & NYC  It reminded me of a recent trip we were taking to go to one of our favorite old time Restaurants on Long Island located in Westbury, New York.  It's a very special place and is only open during specific hours. 

Parking for this small place is difficult so we went down the block...and came across a home that was going to auction.  As a Feng Shui Consultant, I wasn't sure if I wanted to go inside; I thought the energy in the home might be very sad.  Then again, curiosity takes over; from the outside I was surprised at the condition of the home.  Westbury is a lovely town in Long Island and very convenient to shopping and dining.  It is also only one town away from Mineola, with Winthrop Hospital-one of our finest on Long Island and the Long Island Rail Road with New York City being just about ½ hour away.

Tree lined streets, manicured lawn and a perfect area to live.  The outside sign said the bidding would be starting at just $50,000 and most likely in this particular location of Westbury Long Island I would have guessed this home to previously been sold for over $600,000. 

We joined the line to go inside and just as I stepped inside, I almost stopped short.  Laura noticed and was not surprised, she'd felt the same way.  So apparently had the child behind us.  Having been very well behaved I saw that as soon as he entered he started to whine.  I stood off to the side and watched as his mother pulled him inside which resulting in his crying.  I had no doubt he was feeling what some of us, grownups and other children alike were.  There was a heaviness in that house, a sadness that was overwhelming.

Laura went inside to snap a few pictures and noticed something unusual....people were on a "self" tour and viewing the downstairs but very FEW ventured upstairs.  They were mostly exiting through the back door without seeing anymore.  We both felt it was because the energy in the home was so strong...the only visible signs of any damage were on the floor as you can see from the pictures.  In fact, when I saw them I thought the house looked cared for---by someone. 

We've all felt these homes, you don't have to be a Feng Shui Consultant to FEEL a home.  And you don't have to be a child....energy leaves behind IMPRINTS.  I couldn't help but think how much a Feng Shui space clearing could have helped.  Feng Shui Predecessor Energy: IMPRINTS! by Feng Shui Long Island and New York City (

Feng Shui and Children: A New York Feng Shui Consultant's Thoughts

For many years I have noticed the sensitivity of children in all things related to Feng Shui.  They are particularly aware of their surroundings and instinctively know what colors soothe them.  For years I have advised my Feng Shui Clients on Long Island and in Manhattan to allow children to choose their own paint colors (within reason, of course) and to give them a hand in decorating...with a Feng Shui point of view in mind.

Children are extremely sensitive and often can see, hear and mostly FEEL things that we cannot.  Perhaps because they are so young and open they can feel the energy more.  We live in a vibrational world and are surrounded by energy all the time.

I was called recently for a Feng Shui Consultation in Oyster Bay Long Island in New York primarily because a lovely couple had purchased a home about a year prior.  They spent a lot of time making some lovely changes to the home but had become concerned about their daughter who was not sleeping well and had become nervous and unsure of herself. 

She also was afraid in this home and although time had passed, she had not adjusted.  They noticed it particularly upstairs and after a time my client began to feel uneasy in one particular room she was working on.  They were used to guests staying with them and this room was to be the guest room.  My client began to notice that when she attempted to do anything in that room she would often begin to not feel well...and would stop.

Two people had also stayed in the room although it wasn't finished and they too, felt uneasy.  She looked for a Long Island Feng Shui Consultant and called me and we spoke at length.

We went to her lovely home in Oyster Bay recently.  It was open and inviting and freshly painted.  Neither I nor Laura felt anything in there.....until we went upstairs.  I can only describe the feeling both of us had as a "pressure."  We both glanced up to see if anything was OVER us to account for this heaviness and it was a pull down to an attic space.

Things stored in your attic hang over you and I had no doubt this is what they were experiencing.  When I asked what was stored up there I was told that a close friend had passed; not knowing what else to do with all the belongings he had left to them, they had stored it in the attic.....directly over both her daughter's room and the guest room.  I suggested until they could go through it to move it immediately.  They had an outside storage shed and moved it while we were there. 

Laura climbed up to thoroughly bless the attic.

I wasn't at all surprised that their young child felt it first, I have seen this sensitivity before and with my own children as well.  When your child is reacting to something, I'm hopeful that you'll listen, even if it doesn't seem to make sense at the time.  A child's intuition is very powerful.  

My most recent email from this lovely Long Island client was to thank me again.  Everyone was sleeping well and their child was no longer afraid.  And several people had used the guestroom, all felt fine. Children often feel things we don't.  They see things we often don't.  They are sensitive little beings who are much more open to energy and are often not "acting up" as a parent may think they are.  And they need to be heard.

Feng Shui Workshop in Plainview, Long Island, New York

The first time I gave this workshop was only a few months ago.  I was pretty excited...and very nervous.  I STILL never would have thought or imagined that the very school that I learned Feng Shui from I would one day be TEACHING there.  I always think if I could have seen ahead to what would have happened in the Field of Feng Shui, I wouldn't have believed it anyway.

I wondered back then how many people even KNEW of Feng Shui....not many!  Calls were very few and far between.  Pure determination made me stick it out because I had seen it work.  Those days we were happy to be called for a Feng Shui Consultation for a HOME and I don't believe it occurred to ANY of us that down the road the calls for Feng Shui Consultations for Corporations and Businesses-and even New Construction would have become popular.

And here we are....to the "impossible."  When I went to the Metropolitan in Plainview, Long Island, New York for Feng Shui Studies it was then (and may still be) the first licensed and accredited school in the country for Feng Shui Studies.  And it was the very first graduating class who came from all parts of the United States to attend.

We used to joke during our Qi Gong exercise outside that we were standing in PLAIN VIEW.  On August 7^th, I have been invited back to my alma mater to give another workshop for students.  And I hope that one will be followed by one for Realtors.  It isa thrill for me and an honor!

You would think, if they were going to build new stadiums for both the Mets and Yankees they would have called in a Feng Shui consultant BEFOREHAND.  Not the case.  The New York Post decided to write a story from a Feng Shui Consultant on the two stadiums and which one would be more likely to do better.

Yankee Stadium, called "The House that Ruth Built" was originally built in 1923.  It was the first three tiered sports facility in the U.S.  Interestingly enough, it's very first performer was also Billy Joel, who is now giving "The final play at Shea."  Although Yankee Stadium had undergone major renovations, it needed much more work and rather then renovate once again, they are building a new Stadium 

Feng Shui consultant Judith Wendell was called in by reporter Lois Weiss and the headline of the New York Post Read:  "If You Believe in Feng Shui, the Mets are in Trouble."  Not exactly what some die hard Mets fans would want to hear.  Their last win was in 1986 and I think when they finally do win, ALL of New York will take the day off!

Unfortuately, Judith's day didn't go exactly as planned.  In spite of a driver and an escort, she could not find the reporter.  She was also unexpectedly sprayed with water-which, she said, she took as a good sign because water is abundance.  The Mets new stadium (she was unable to get inside as both are in construction) was plagued by "disturbed" energy according to the dowsing rods.  Also, the team colors of blue and orange are "antagonistic."  Absolutely true if you look at the color wheel, they are opposing colors.

How about some RED?  (This is ME talking : )  Fire, Energy, Passion...maybe a WIN.  I have always thought uniforms were important! 

Good aspects that she found at Yankee Stadium included the fact that they are using many of the same things from the old stadium thereby bringing with them good predecessor energy.  As one person also noted, it's helping to be Eco Friendly-if you don't count the 400 trees it has cut down and the 22 acres of public parkland that was taken over.  That can't be good Feng Shui.... 

No matter who wins or loses, one hard and fast rule I will NEVER forget:

"THERE IS NO CRYING IN BASEBALL!!"

Feng Shui in New York Baseball?  You better Believe it!

As a Feng Shui Consultant in New York City and Long Island, it was interesting for me to read that a reporter with an interest in Feng Shui had called a Consultant to both Shea and Yankee Stadiums, both being torn down this year to have new ones built, to evaluate them.  I will be posting her thoughts on her site visits to the new stadiums being built soon to see what her choice is for the "winners" of New York.

Personally, I am going to miss the "old" Shea Stadium.  I've attended both games and a concert there and my son Adam has scooped some tickets to what is being called "The Final Play at Shea."  A host of stars and well known people have appeared there over the years including a sold out performance by the Beatles in August, 1965 with an encore performance in 1966.  This record was only broken by none other then Led Zepplin, performing there in 1973---until now.  Our own Long Islander Piano Man himself, Billy Joel, has been chosen to do the final shows at Shea.  The original final show as slated for Wednesday, the 16^th but tickets were added for an additional show on Friday, July 18^th.  I do believe he's in a New York State of Mind.

The new site, situated on the old parking lot will be called Citi Field is estimated to hold 42,500 fans and at a cost of 620 million dollars. Gratefully, the old stadium will be dismantled (there are some valuable things in there!) rather than imploded.  Let's hope the New York Mets step up to the plate....literally!
