Feng Shui New York Renovations

My Feng Shui Consultation today was on Long Island's wonderful town of Huntington, New York.  If you are familiar with Long Island at all, you're probably aware of this town and it's special qualities.  It's almost like a little piece of New York City on Long Island:  quaint little shops, wonderful places to eat. At night, the town is still "hopping."  There are bars and restaurants and wonderful older theaters-and it's bookstores.  I am Books and The Book Revue are two favorites with something always going on.

My client's today were fantastic, completely in touch with Feng Shui and well read on the subject but....you guessed it, perhaps, they were confused.  I explained about the different schools of Feng Shui, the different methods we use and the different perspectives we sometimes have. 

I asked for their particular reason for calling for a Feng Shui Consultation because things in their lives were going well.  They would both like to make some career changes but other then that, all seemed fine.  They had called because they wanted to make renovations to their home and wanted to make sure it wouldn't throw the wonderful energy they felt inside "out of balance." 

It often happens in renovations.  Feng Shui Consultants like to bless prior to major renovations for the simple reason that the energy is moving so rapidly during renovations in a home or business, it can stir up temporary chaos.  We also want to make sure things go well, work comes off in the manner it's supposed to with no unforeseen difficulties. 

 

After teaching them about the topics and principles of Feng Shui, we evaluate both the outside and inside and make suggestions for placements, elements, things to do to "Get their Name out to the Universe" and particularly in this case, for their Career areas.  My client was from Lebanon and I was interested to hear of the strong beliefs in Feng Shui over there.  He is also quite a diverse and talented person and I hope to show some of his handmade, fascinating artwork in an upcoming Localism post.

*Stuck in the middle of Renovations

*The WEALTH area...OUCH! (These clients were "stuck"  in the middle of renovations--a job was lost and the money ran out.  Within a short time after the Feng Shui Consultation a new job was found and all the work was completed!).

In making suggestions and speaking to both of these people at length while explaining my reasoning behind the suggestions, it was easy to see they both "got it."  I asked them later if it all made sense and it completely did, they resonated with the suggestions because they understood the INTENTIONS behind them.  Explaining to your clients the "whys" of your suggestions works well in ANY business and it was no exception in this case. They are more likely to take your suggestions because they understand another perspective.

I am thrilled that I will be going back after the renovations and have been given permission to use both before and after pictures which will show the renovations as well as BALANCE in the home.  The impacts of Feng Shui are sometimes seen but ALWAYS felt!

Parapsychology.  What a fascinating subject it is.  When I first became interested in it I was at my local college, having enrolled in some psychology courses.  We had our breaks at the same time as the parapsychology class and I found THEIR discussions much more interesting then OURS.  The next year I enrolled and took two years of it.

The Rhine Research Institute used to have a place right here in New York City and I found it to be amazing using the strict controls and standards to measure such things as Telepathy, ESP, Psychic Ability, Remote Viewing (which was then called out of body experiences and near death experiences).  And they found accuracy in many people.

Parapsychologists are sometimes called for what is believed to be a "haunted" house and they measure things such as electrical energy, photography and keep measurements for temperature control for "cold spots."  They seem to be able to document that something is in a home or business depending on their findings but to my knowledge, they don't DO anything to rid the place of Spirit Energy.  They often then call in a psychic or medium-all which can be a bit time consuming to say the least.

A Feng Shui Perspective is a bit different.  We were taught to think of the LAND as well as the home or Business but not taught of "evil" spirits, just that some souls can get "stuck" on an early plane.  Some are playful, some definitely DO scare you but in all the years that I have been called for this, I (thankfully) have never felt "threatened."  We ASK (silently) for the predecessor energies to be on its way---rather then approaching it in the form of an "exorcism" which demands a spirit leaves..

For the outside we use a special blessing that is sacred having been passed down thousands of years and for the inside we use Sage.  When I work with Realtors I suggest they ask their clients to sage the home they are trying to sell.  We were also taught energy can "attach."  For those of you who think this is outlandish or your clients will never "go for it" I wonder how many have buried a St. Josepeh's Statue upside down outside?  Native Americans smudge a body with Sage to heal it, we use it in homes to cleanse it while protecting ourselves from any possible attachment. 

It works.  For many homes it only takes one visit and the occupants feel so much better as well as others who enter the space.  The longest it has taken me was three visits-and then, after YEARS of these clients living with noises and being frightened by the TV turning itself off an on by itself, it stopped.

Some years ago people still were afraid to speak of it so they lived that way....not having their own "Sacred Space."  Now they aren't fearful of calling....and no one thinks they're "crazy."   Having your new home or business blessed can get you off to the best possible start-and you'll LOVE coming home at night.

As a Feng Shui Consultant in New York City and Long Island, I am often called to homes, apartments and businesses when someone is moving in or just prior.  This is the ideal time to go as I can help them with furniture placement, colors, and one of the most important things of all, erasing Predecessor Energy from a space so they can start off fresh.

  Previous occupants can leave behind their own IMPRINT of their energies; some are sad, angry....or there has been a foreclosure.  Even when you purchase from  those that leave under good circumstances such as "moving up" in the world, you want to infuse your new space with YOUR energy.  This is why we consider SPACE CLEARING and BLESSINGS so important.

Some of my calls are from clients who just don't feel comfortable in their own homes.  They don't know what or why but they don't sleep well and notice a shift---as Feng Shui Consultants we sometimes realize it's Predecessor Energy.....not only of the home itself, but things that have occurred on the LAND.

And then there are the "other" calls....from very upset people who sometimes see, hear or feel something in their homes.  I know there are many who don't believe in Spirits (notice I didn't say GHOSTS) but it makes you wonder....there  are so many intelligent, normal people that are experiencing this.  Are they just imaginging things?  Ive been in many of these homes and can assure you there ARE some "mysterious" happenings.  Lights flickering, the doorbell ringing when no one is there, noises of all kinds....It can at times be a bit unnerving.

One of my clients who was seeing a counselor for a painful divorce finally mentioned what he was experienceing in his home.  Interestingly enough, his counselor advised him to call a Feng Shui Consultant.  Children, especially, are more open and sensitive to these energies then adults so when your child speaks, LISTEN.  I know of one couple who had been terrorized in a new home.  They actually called each other on their cell phones to let each other know they had arrived home so they could meet out front.  One evening after MANY evenings of hearing noises (and being too terrified to get out of bed), they awoke to muddy footprints all over their living room.  They literally took nothing from the house and had it put back on the market.  I would tend to say no one would do that unless there were some pretty disturbing things going on......

Some of the different things people do when they are experiencing "Things that Bump in the Night": Noises, "sightings," any unusual electrical energy and oftentimes, just a feeling....a very uncomfortable feeling. I know many Realtors have felt the energies of homes...angry, sad homes that they can't WAIT to get out of.  Sellling them can be a challange.

Feng Shui and The Law of Attraction

Many of us are so much more in tune with Energy then ever before.  No doubt that "The Secret" made a huge difference in many of our lives already and continue to do so.  Suddenly, we "got it."  There IS a ‘Law of Attraction' and many of the things we thought we had no control over, we actually DO.  What an uplifting and positive message and huge impact it made for many of us.

I got my "moments" of understanding while working at a Wholistic Center years ago.  Downtrodden people who were ill....and sent away by there doctors with a "timeline."  The major and most common principles of Wholistic Health relate to the Energy Fields in our bodies.  We think of Reiki, Amma Therapy (developed right here on Long Island, New York by Dr. and Mrs. Sohn, it's a powerful form of massage for healing Energy Points), Acupuncture, EFT and many other methods. 

I watched the Practitioners heal a patient's spirit first; until your mind is cured, it would be difficult to believe in any hope.  They truly cared about their patients and it showed.  It wasn't a "traditional" 15 minute in-out appointment which you waited two hours for only to be told more "bad news."  It was messages of caring, HOPE and inspiration.

From that alone, patients started to feel better.  They had turned their thinking into a positive force and the next step in wholistic healing is releasing the negative energy that can get "stuck" in our bodies and stored there unknowingly.  And they healed, many of them.  Their spirits, their outlooks and their bodies.  It was a powerful lesson to actually SEE this and it was, in fact, the Law of Attraction at work.

The more "bad" news they had been given by doctors, the more sad and ill they became.  Healing starts with the mind---the Law of Attraction or INTENTION as the term Feng Shui Consultants use, is a powerful tool for fighting dis-ease.  It is not "just" for attracting money, cars and other things into your life, it is about healing first. 

It is SO important with the Energy surrounding you, including your environment and the people.  Negative, down people can "suck" the energy right out of us....we come away tired and drained.  Keep the positives people around you---and limit the negative if you have to deal with them at all.  What was it Yoda said?  "May the FORCE be with you."  (Wise little guy!).

In Feng Shui, we evaluate a home or a business from many different aspects.  We want to see if it will support a client, if there are any particular issues with the home that might interfere with important principles of Feng Shui, if our clients will grow and thrive in a particular place.

Although I live in New York, I often do long distance Feng Shui Consultations.  Many consultants offer them but I am particular in how I address them.  I don't just want a floor plan which will give me very limited information, I want it ALL.  I need to FEEL that I'm right there, in a clients space where I can actually feel the energy and SEE placements, colors and elements.

I had done this consultation a few months back and was excited to get these pictures.  Some I have scanned and others I can explain.  I felt immediately that this home that my client had chose already had Feng Shui Principles in place.  And these few shots give you just an idea on how I believe that almost ANY home or business can support you....with some changes.

As some of you know, it isn't auspicious in Feng Shui to see the stairs as soon as you enter.  This home had stairs just past the front door but in reverse---instead of going in and UP you went around and up...see the photo?  Which left as an entrance a slanted wall...not the best Feng Shui.

Apparently the former occupants knew this, they had these "walls" built in front of it so this is what you see when you walk in.  The stairs and downward slant are deflected and this wall was lovely for decorating.

Also by the front door we found a definite "Water" element....Wavy Lines.  Water at the FRONT indicates the good and auspicious energy will enter.  I don't believe for a second this "wave" was an accident.  This was also at the entrance to a room my client decided to use as her Home-Office.

Another attraction to this lovely home that I saw was that the Wealth Corner in the backyard had been raised.....I have seen clients PROSPER when there is a higher, raised area in Wealth.  Opportunities abound for becoming more prosperous.

It was interesting to me that she chose this home, although there were several just like it at a lower price, this is the one she "fell" for.  And she's doing VERY well there, including starting a new business which took off! Feng Shui Distance consultations work with extra time and energy-and a lovely home with Feng Shui Principles in Florida with some assistance from a New York City Feng Shui Consultant.

As many of you know, my daughter Laura Cerrano has been a Feng Shui Consultant in New Paltz for the last several years.  After studying and going to client's homes, businesses, apartments and offices as well as studying with experts in the field of Feng Shui, she has been doing Feng Shui Consultations in New York City and Long Island.

I am thrilled and so is she.  She needed confidence to step out and do it on her own and she's finally gotten it.  But she has other interests and loves as well.  She recently became a Certified Personal Trainer and was seeking some part time work in the evenings while she is home on Long Island for the summer. 

Not thinking much of it and off to get some applications at places she likes for personal training, she wore a T Shirt I had ordered from Vista Print.  I would never wear it but she enjoys it.  It caught someone's eye at the very first place she stopped and they began to ask her questions about it.

She came home from that interview with an application to fill out-and a new client for a Feng Shui Consultation on Long Island.  Today she wore it again, this time just to pick up some groceries.  Today she was stopped by two people in Waldbaum's who began to question her about Feng Shui.  One took her card and will be calling to schedule an appointment.

Are we missing the simple and super inexpensive ways of advertising?  I had never gotten car magnets or lettering...which I ordered today.  How many of us are working SO hard when just wearing a Tee Shirt can get us so much recognition-AND work?  I know that many of you know about Vista Print, but are you using some of their FREE OFFERS?  It seems to me if they're making a hit in New York (where sometimes people are not often known for being exactly "friendly,") it's likely to work where you are, too.  MY Tee Shirst is on order : )

 As a New York Feng Shui Consultant who utilizes the Bagua Method along with Western and ‘Black Sect' methods to have all Feng Shui principles in order, I have seen one area of the Bagua that is often neglected.  To me AND to the clients I advise, this is often the most important area (next to health)-it is called simply "HELPFUL PEOPLE." 

I often wonder where we would be in life without them.  They can be strangers who just seem to "show up" in your life when you need them the most or they can be old or new friends that are truly there to help you.  I address this area often and somehow, magically, they always appear. 

I was thinking of this the other day as I was struggling with yet another issue on my own home---and the fact that it's been going on so long.  Sheron Cardin - how2homestage.com RESA offered me (and my dogs) a place to stay when I was ill from the mold.  It was  Jo-Anne Smith-Belleville, Quinte and Prince Edward Region Real Estate, Ont. who gave me another perspective:  Maybe it's time to "Let Go" of the circumstances with my home, maybe my house was trying to tell me something.

At the time, I wasn't ready to hear it.  And tried to progress with it although roadblocks kept preventing me from what I wanted to do.  This Sunday night (Father's Day) I had yet another incident with my home and needed to speak to someone who has a knowledge of the Long Island market and could give me some advise and information.  I could think of one person that I have never spoken to on AR but that I felt would be able to give me the best direction. 

Laurie Mindnich  of Option's Realty was the one I reached out to.  She'd just had a wonderful featured post that day:    Since When Are Buyers Entitled to Commission?   and I knew not only was it Father's Day but her baby granddaughter is due any day.  I felt terrible but had a crew of people showing up at my house the next morning and emailed her anyway.

She called me back in a very short time and I explained all the issues....and the work that was supposed to be done the following morning.  I had no way to reach these people to stop them from coming and the issues with my home had become overwhelming.  Laurie spent well over an hour on the phone with me giving me her best possible advice (and calming me down along the way).  She advised me exactly how to proceed and what I needed to do......A plan---exactly what I needed.

When we fianlly hung up I felt very much relieved.   As my daughter and I were speaking later, she said "You know, Mom, from a Feng Shui perspective, this house is relating to your health.  The basement hasn't been well, YOU haven't been well and it's time to Go.  I know what you would advise your clients."

Finally, it hit me that every ONE of my "helpful people" had been right all along.  I had been ill from the mold, a hospital stay and things that no one can quite find a reason for:  swollen ankles, a tooth infection.  Yes, Laura, it is, finally time to go.

Energy rises....and I am particularly connected to my home and its energy.  With Laurie's helpful advice which was to find a realtor who knows my area, I called a good friend and former Feng Shui Client Lisa Arato of Century 21, American Homes.  She called me back the very next morning, found out the "stats" on my home and advised me who to call to get a thorough assessment so I can move ahead and proceed with OPTIONS (That's for you, Laurie :) I hadn't even thought of.

This is not just another "acknowledgement post."  This is a post about Helpful People, whether you are a Feng Shui Consultant in New York City or someone who knows nothing or little about Feng Shui anywhere in the Country.  When you acknowledge the "Helpful People" in your life, more are sure to follow.  They start "coming out of the woodwork" as one of my clients wrote to me recently.  Soon, they are everywhere.

As a Feng Shui Consultant on Long Island and New York City, there are many things we have to work around.  And some things we need to tell clients we just hope they will believe us and make the changes, although they may be a little more difficult then the usual ones we can choose.

A huge principle of Feng Shui is "To Let the Outdoors IN."  We need to allow the New Energy to enter and create a balance of the Yin/Yang forces.  The first thing I myself do every morning is to open up my blinds and curtains.  I want the outside to come in....and I recommend my clients do the same. 

Another thing, if possible, is to open some windows and doors, even if only for a short time.  New Energy (otherwise known as CHI) can't get in if you don't allow it in.  Often when I am doing a Feng Shui Consultation for a home, one issue comes up frequently:  when there is a door or a bush directly in front of the front door.

It is known to "block" the Chi as the Front Door is known as the "Mouth" of Chi, where all the good energy ENTERS.  Bushes can often be moved but trees can be more of an issue depending on their size-and branches. *A note to Realtors on showing homes to buyers with an interest in Feng Shui:  If the Front Door has branches from a tree in front of it that cast a shadow on the front door, a buyer will take that as a sign of bad luck.  Have your homeowners trim branches.

And please stop using the garage doors that are so easy to get into.  I know they're convenient and it's fine when you've been shopping and have groceries or the weather is bad. Otherwise, use the Front Door (the little walk may do you good : )

This beautiful home was particularly problematic for me:  I love the colors this beautiful tree exudes but it's covering windows and obscuring the home itself.  It needs to be cut back.  And the bush?  Right in front of the Mouth of Chi.  We discussed relocating it to another area.

I can't always tell clients what they want to hear, but I can point out things I truly believe will help them and explain the reasons why.  And they "get it."  It is always wonderful to open my emails in the morning or answer my phone, I never know when it's going to be a client I have worked with who is going to share some wonderful news with me....and that's often the best part of MY day!

Where does a New York Feng Shui Consultant go to reconnect with Nature?  Since I am often in New York City, I must say I love Central Park.  The energies of the Park change constantly from place to place; some parts have music blaring and lots of activity to the quieter parts of the park where people are just enjoying all the beautiful scenery.

When I am on Long Island, one of my favorite places is The Planting Fields Arboretum in Oyster Bay, New York.  It is a quieter energy here, the scenery and historic buildings are beautiful and you find yourself wandering paths with beautiful trees, plants and outdoor flowers or can go into any one of a number of greenhouses to enjoy a more tropical feeling.  It is truly a place for a Feng Shui Consultant to reconnect with nature and the town of Oyster Bay on Long Island is truly a beautiful place to be.

 I don't believe I ever realized how fortunate I was to have such a wonderful father and role model in my life.  I somehow thought that ALL fathers did the things my father did for their children.  Lots of hugs, encouragement, fun days and wonderful trips-laughter was always on the menu.  So was love.

When I turned 12 and began going out to concerts, things seemed to change I started to realize just how special he really was.  My friends would always say they wished they were as lucky as I was to have such a wonderful dad.  He loved to do spontaneous things and whoever was over was always invited along; dinners out, surprise visits to Carvel, a game or two of miniature golf or a movie.

He was always the first to offer to pick up two or three other friends and take us where we wanted to go and never once complained.  He joked and laughed with my friends and called my best friend his "other" daughter.  Our door was always open and friends and family were always welcome. A large part of my childhood was sitting on his knee learning how to play cards with all the people who showed up (what I wouldn't give for one more card game!).  Most of my friend's fathers did not want to be bothered when they arrived home from work.  In some their houses would get very quiet, guests were sent home, there were no surprises--or fun.

When I was older and began working for my father I saw the joy he took in his business and it was contagious.  He allowed people to HEAR again and I too went on to become a Certified New York State Hearing Aid Dispenser.  More then that, I saw the way he treated people, with patience and kindness and complete respect.  I remember thinking he had to be the worst "businessman" in the world as I knew he gave away at no charge some hearing aids to people who couldn't afford them-a rare trait.  Fortunately, at the time I never knew how many. 

My father, Lt. Colonel Peter F. Provenzale, passed young, in 1980 at age 60.  He was proud of his accomplishments during World War 11 where he was a navigator with the 8^th Air Force, 351^st group.  What he spoke mainly about was his friendship with Clark Gable, also in the same division.  He admired and respected him for being "just one of the guys."  Clark Gable's mission was to make a documentary on the war and it is called "Combat America."  My father was in many of the scenes and as a gift to my father, Mr. Gable presented him with an original 8 mm reel of the tape, something we still have.

What I got from my father were his values:  People come first and money is not all that important.  Do what you love and follow your heart-and always be able to say you did the best you could.  Don't beat yourself up over mistakes, keep your head up and keep trying because when you live a good life, you will ALWAYS be happy. I always hope I make him proud that he left me his name.

I miss you, Dad and just as important, I have always respected you.  He always told me that the best thing he could ever leave to his children was a good name....and I have never changed it because he did that so well.
