Stage Your Kitchen With Feng Shui & Start 2009 Right!

I am always reading wonderful posts here on Activerain although I have never re-blogged one.  This one I didn't want anyone to miss--While I write posts about what to do for the Chinese New Year, this is for THIS New Year, the one many of you celebrate.

Michelle Minch did a wonderful job on this post.  And her advice is solid.  Every one of these things can help you more then you may ever have expected---Especially with business slower for many. you don't have to spend a dime putting these principles into use.

And until you TRY some of the principles of Feng Shui, you won't know just how effective it REALLY is.  Thank you, Michelle, for sharing this helpful information.

Stage your kitchen with Feng Shui - Start 2009 Right! Welcome prosperity and good health with sound Feng Shui practices. With the New Year approaching, now is the perfect time to invite positive change into your life.

There are many schools of Feng Shui with many different schools of thought as to how to achieve goals. Recommendations will vary from school to school and practitioner to practitioner. Often the focus is on compass direction,  which may necessitate moving the kitchen to another part of the house, or rearranging the major elements (stove, sink, refrigerator, etc.) Since most of us cannot afford to move our kitchen or remodel it, here are some tips to get your kitchen in top Feng Shui shape with little or no cash outlay, just an investment of your time. Despite the fact that different schools have differing "cures", following are some basic changes you can make that apply to all kitchens. We can affect many positive changes in our lives just by applying intention - putting the energy into making a change and welcoming that change into our lives.

In Feng Shui, the condition of the kitchen can influence your level of prosperity and good health. The goals are increasing cleanliness, functionality and organization and getting rid of clutter to make room for whatever your new prosperity will bring. Follow these steps to increase your prosperity, good health and general well being:

  • Clean out your refrigerator and your pantry. Get rid of  any out-of-date food or 'science projects' (all of which hold negative energy, by the way). This includes any outdated vitamins or medications you keep in your kitchen. Wipe down the shelves, clean up any old spills and crumbs. If you use shelf paper in your pantry, and it is torn damaged or worn, replace it.
  • Restock your refrigerator and pantry. A fuller refrigerator and pantry equates to prosperity and generosity. It also allows us to be prepared for whatever may come up, be it unexpected guests or a change in employment status. Don't overfill the refrigerator and pantry. We don't want them cluttered, just sufficiently full to meet our nourishment needs plus a little extra.  Put a small open box of baking soda in the refrigerator to absorb odors. Opening the refrigerator should be a pleasant experience.
  • Restock your refrigerator and pantry with healthy food. Take care of your body and it will take care of you. One of the fastest paths to good health is eating healthy food. If your intention is to improve your health, then walk the walk.
  • Display fresh fruit on your counter. Abundant fruit is a symbol of prosperity and generosity (yours and the Universe's) in Feng Shui. Besides, you are more likely to eat it if it is readily available, which will improve your health and well-being.
  • Remove everything from your cabinets. Assess everything and determine if it is really useful. With the exception of some seasonal items, if you haven't used it in the past 6 months, you should get rid of it (donate, give away to a friend, recycle or throw it away). If it is chipped, broken or otherwise damaged, either fix it or get rid of it.  That broken toaster that has been sitting in the cabinet since 2004 may be burning off some of your prosperity - send it on down the road.  If the item can be fixed (and you are likely to have it fixed) by all means, do so. If it can be repaired, but you are not inclined to do so, label it with the problem (so the recipient know what they are getting) and then donate it. If it can't be fixed or recycled, then throw it away. The goal is to get rid of clutter and make space for new and better items that will come into your life in the coming year.
  • Put the items you are keeping back in the cabinet in an orderly fashion, and in a manner that allows the item to be useful and of service to you.  No matter what anyone tells you, if the organizational system is not organic to your way of doing things, you won't be able to maintain it and it will devolve into chaos quickly.
  • Don't store large or heavy items overhead or you may feel pushed down or weighed down. Store them in a low cabinet if they need to remain in the kitchen. Besides the Feng Shui implications, it is often difficult and sometimes dangerous to remove and replace bulky or heavy items in a high cabinet.
  • Carefully pack seasonal items (Thanksgiving turkey platter, Christmas themed plates, for example) in plastic bins and store them in the basement, a closet or the garage. They don't need to be taking up space all year in some of the most energetically valuable real estate in your house - your kitchen.
  • Clean off the kitchen counters of all but the most used items that can't be stored anyplace else. Kitchen clutter (holding on to too much stuff) often manifests itself as excess weight (holding on to too many calories).
  • Don't display knives on your counter or on the wall.  The "cutting Chi" they posess may cut your prosperity and create anxiety.  The best place for knives is in a drawer, stored with the blade facing down.
  • Take care of any maintenance problems. Fix the leaking faucet (money down the drain, literally and figuratively). Replace burned out lightbulbs or broken light fixtures and switches (a dark kitchen is not only dangerous, but also depressing).  Replace broken cabinet pulls (if you can't get to your food easily you will starve physically and emotionally). Broken appliances = broken energy. While the task may be small, the rewards and sense of accomplishment you will reap from the repairs will be large.
  • Throw away your old sponges, dish rags, mop heads and broom. Start the New Year fresh. Dirt is seen as negative energy in Feng Shui. Don't drag this year's negativity into the New Year.
  • Clean your kitchen until it sparkles - every square inch of it.  Pay special attention to the stove and the stove hood. The stove, where your food is prepared, is of paramount importance to your prosperity and well-being in Feng Shui. Make sure all the burners are in good working order and use them all equally. You will be maximizing your ability to call in prosperity from multiple sources by doing so. An make sure your stove hood or extractor is working properly to remove smoke, excess humidity and odors. If you haven't done so recently, wash the extractor filters. Get rid of old greasy dirt and cut down on the chance of a fire from grease build up.

The New Year is just around the corner. Welcome the New Year with a clean, functional, uncluttered kitchen. In Feng Shui, the condition of the kitchen can influence your level of prosperity and good health.  Follow the above steps and welcome prosperity and greater well-being in 2009.

FENG SHUI: Did You Realize YOU are Using it Every Day?

FENG SHUI:  Did you Realize YOU are using it Every Day?

Feng Shui.  Still a mystery to many, still misunderstood and most of you, whether you realize it or not, are using Major Principles of Feng Shui EVERY SINGLE DAY.

Yin/Yang Theory Feng Shui Long Island & New York Consultant

How is that possible?  You don't know enough about it to Incorporate it.  Let's review some of the Major Principles of Feng Shui:

Getting Your Name out to the Universe:  Whether you do it with INTENTION A New York Feng Shui Consultant--And some FAME  or you are giving out business cards, devising a new marketing plan, having an open house or doing ANY type of advertising you can think of---YOU are getting your NAME out there!  Think of it:  EVERY time you hit SUBMIT on Activerain, YOU are "Getting Your Name Out to the Universe."

In reading other posts I notice here what you call "Paying It Forward."  We acknowledge others in Links and posts for a kindness they have done or something we feel is important.  Activerain put a Feng Shui Principle into effect when they added the Re=Blog Feature.  We see a post we LOVE and want to share it---and the wonderful person who wrote it.  We RE-Blog it and "Pay it Forward."

Realtors and Home Stagers:  Every SINGLE time you advise your clients OPEN the BLINDS or WINDOWS, they are "Letting the OUTSIDE IN."  This is important to keep a balance of the Yin/Yang Theory of balance.  It relates to our lives and it's a big Feng Shui Principle.

In Feng Shui Thoughts we are Acknowledging HELPFUL PEOPLE.  These wonderful people who come into our lives and reach out with a kind word, thought or deed.  They have taken time to help us and we need to remember to acknowledge them for it.

One SURE thing about Helpful People in Feng Shui::  IF YOU STOP ACKNOWLEDING THEM, THEY WILL STOP COMING.  These are people you always want in your life!

With that thought in mind, there are some VERY SPECIAL people who have helped me in my home issues; an Acknowledgment is in order:

Carol Gordon of Advanced Restoration.  Talk about COMPASSION.  Carol went well above and beyond her "job duties" in assessing my home.  When I was SURE I had something going on downstairs and in spite of the fact that I had already had TWO companies come to my home, it was Carol that discovered the mold.

Real Estate Feng Shui Long Island & New York

It was also Carol that did everything she could to protect me and my health during the remediation process.  Carol came by each and every time I called her.  She is not only a true professional, she has got to be one of the kindest people I have ever met.

Lisa Arato, Real Estate Agent Extraordinaire:  Lisa has just joined our Activerain family!  She has been my friend and one of the BEST realtors I have met on Long Island.  Lisa will help anyone with that huge heart of hers.  She also knows both Home Staging AND Feng Shui.  Newsday did an article about a Real Estate Agent that USES Feng Shui-and Lisa was featured!  Lisa works with Century 21 American Homes.

Gary Maksym:  My Home Inspector.  Poor Gary.  I don't know how many times I've called him.  He or his lovely wife NEVER get annoyed and he has also dealt with the various contractors I've had to take the time and speak to them about his findings and recommendations to fix my home.  A recent example:  I want to go HOME but need to be absolutely CERTAIN my home is fine.  I called Gary once again-and he came the NEXT DAY!  If I ever moved, I'd fly him in if I had to.  Gary's business is Residential Property and Home Inspections. Massapequa, NY A Maximum Home Inspection and he is located right here in Massapequa Long Island New York.

Home Inspector Gary Marksym

Who have YOU acknowledged recently?  I see it every day here in Activerain and you're ALL employing Feng Shui Principles.  Bet you didn't even know it!

What Memories are YOU Going to LIVE ON?

What Memories are YOU Going to Live On?

A New York Feng Shui Consultant's MEMORIES.

I call them "Pearls of Wisdom."  Those words someone will say to you that have a profound impact on you; you never forget them.

Many years ago a very special Aunt told me something very simple and very true:

"Be careful of the memories you make" she said, "That is what you live off in the future."

I read so many posts here on Activerain and am also surrounded by all the doom and gloom in the news.  Many here try to stay upbeat but find it's a losing battle in this economy.  It's one of the most difficult things to do to change the way you THINK-and it's also one of the most important.

Thinking New York Feng Shui Consultant Carole Provenzale

Many of my Feng Shui clients have hit hard times and don't know how to get out of their fears.  It's not easy---it takes work and determination and a very long time.  It is also a true case of where persistence pays off.  You have to "catch" each negative thought and turn it into a positive.

For some it takes years but those who do this consistently start to see that after a while, their thoughts AUTOMATICALLY begin to shift on their own.  EACH thought has a counter-thought---and your job is to find it.

Difficult times Feng Shui Consultant New York

Think you can't do it?  Don't be so sure.  It was so many years ago that I read the book "You can't afford the Luxury of a Negative Thought" and it resonated with me.  You become what you think.  You reach goals that you believe you can.  Letting those doubts creep in and take over is a huge mistake.  IT IS DURING THE DIFFICULT TIMES THAT YOU MUST STRETCH AND GROW.  And push yourself beyond what you thought your limits were.

Happiness New York Feng Shui Consultant Carole Provenzale

This is, no doubt, a very difficult time for many; there is, unfortunately, very little you can do to change the circumstances.  The one thing you CAN do is change your attitude.

Don't look back in regret.

I, for one, want to look back at these days and remember the GOOD.  What memories are YOU creating to live on in YOUR future?

Regrets

Holiday Acceptance--- All Year Through

 Holiday Acceptance All Year Long

New York is a land of cultural diversity.  We are the "melting pot" from people all over the world and I'd always loved hearing and learning about different traditions, celebrations, articles of clothing, beliefs and the diversity of so many people that all seem to be so different yet are more alike then we ever may have imagined.

Seagulls by Feng Shui Consultant Carole Provenzale

I was very fortunate to grow up in a home where the door was always open.  Especially during the holidays, neighbors, family and friends always managed to converge here.  With my father having served in the military, he had friends from all walks of life and from all over the Country and beyond.

I learned about diversity at an early age.  EVERYONE was welcomed here and no one gave a second thought to their culture, belief or status in life.  And so it is working with my clients who are also from all over the world; we are always respectful of their beliefs and customs.  Every day we work with new clients we learn more.  We are made all the better by learning to just pay attention to PEOPLE.

Bird by Feng Shui Consultant Carole Provenzale New York

We are all SO alike-and ALL so different.  How do you spell Acceptance?  Four simple letters:  "L O V E".

May we all have LOVE-at the Holidays and all year through.

New York City---A Tribute to John Lennon

New York City--Central Park--STRAWBERRY FIELDS FOREVER

A Tribute to John Lennon:

December 8th, 1980It seems like so LONG ago.  I had just lost my father and was up at night unable to sleep.  The tv was on but I don't remember watching it-just a news flash and I couldn't comprehend it.  I knew they said John Lennon was shot but didn't know whether they said he was alive or not.

It was one of those indefinable moments that changes you somehow-by a person you have never met but has had such a profound effect on you.  Of course I remembered the Beatles and their very first trip to New York-and appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show.

It was his later years, though, that I remember the most; his love of his son, Sean.  He was the first Mr. Mom and was proud of it.  And his love of New York City and all the court battles he endured to stay in a city he loved.  His "Bed-Ins" were notorious and it was reported that when asked WHY he was doing that he replied in an offhand manner that  "ALL WE ARE SAYING IS GIVE PEACE A CHANCE."

I think of the years of lost music we will never have but I also think of the incredible legacy he left behind.  To this day, thousands of people gather in Central Park in New York City and all over the world to mourn his passing and rejoice in his life.  Having been at Strawberry Fields in the summer, I found it too difficult to stay there and photograph it.  Laura did and I put up the post "IMAGINE."  IMAGINE--A Manhattan Feng Shui Consultant in Central Park--See Strawberry Fields

Here are some of those shots again and a few of The Dakota building where he lived-and where he was killed but never gone....his music and legacy lives on forever.

A New York Feng Shui ARTIST-You MADE it, Laura Cerrano!

We all know what the power of a Comment can do-and I often remember other people's blogs that have made an impression on me.  Gary Wortal  Gary Woltal - REALTORĀ® Dallas Ft. Worth   wrote a post not too long ago and the words stayed with me:  "I Wouldn't Have Missed it for the World." Life Is Too Short Aphorisms

I am in awe of my children-both of them.  They each followed their hearts in choosing their work.  Most of you know my daughter Laura is also a New York Feng Shui Consultant and we often work together.

Still, she has other loves-She is a Certified Personal Trainer and also Certified in WILLPOWER & GRACE.    willPower productions She loves ART and is graduating New Paltz College with a BFA and a BS in teaching.  Her big day was arriving:  Her Gallery Presentation.  Feeling somewhat under the weather I wondered if I'd be able to go-it's a LONG ride AND a very long day.

I told Laura when she called that day I would not be able to make it-and while sad, she understood.  Still, Gary's words didn't leave me.  I grabbed a change of clothes and asked my son to come and get me-I COULD NOT miss this.

I arrived at the show with Adam and watched Laura as she went around and spoke to her mentors and friends.  When she saw me it was a magic moment-and some crying.  "Laura, I wouldn't have missed this for the WORLD."

I'm SO glad I didn't.  Adam makes custom cakes and he'd made a huge, beautiful cake in an Artist's Pallette.  It was a HIT!  So was the show.  Here's a few shots of a wonderful night and yet another lesson learned from a friend on Activerain.

*The pictures were NOT crooked--the person taking them might have been :)

**The cake was cut into before we had a SECOND to take a picture :(  But it was a HIT!
