Feng Shui in New York City @ Historic Tudor City by Feng Shui Long Island

Feng Shui in New York City @ Historic Tudor City

As well as I think I know New York City and much of Manhattan, I don't know how I've missed this beautiful, historic place.  I'd likely not have seen it, either, had I not been called to Feng Shui a New York City Apartment.  I was fortunate to get there early and had time to explore this lovely part of Midtown that I had never seen before.

It was truly like stepping back in time.  The streets are very narrow for residents only and it is the quietest area of the City I have ever been in; if you didn't KNOW you were in New York City, you wouldn't believe you were right in the HEART of it!

A bit of history that my client shared with me:  Tudor City is a historic district in Midtown Manhattan and was developed in the 1920's by Fred F. French.  He created 12 Buildings, all Tudor Style.  Formerly on this site were tenements, brownhouses, an old gas company, breweries and a slaughterhouse.  And, of course, a horrible smell.

French and Company began building in 1925 and the buildings were finished by 1928.  It contained 3,000 housing units and 600 hotel rooms, now mostly co-ops.  Architect H. Douglas Ives designed the buildings and was known for his intricate stone and brick work.

To attract the Middle Class to the area, they built a park.  The buildings all face inwards to the park to detract from the odors and very few windows faced the East Side (my client was fortunate to have a large window).  The United Nations now stands where the slaughterhouses were.  In another post I will show my clients Feng Shui New York City Apartment but here are some pictures of this beautiful, historic district right in the heart of New York City:

Feng Shui Consultations "Online" by Feng Shui Long Island

I have received many emails from people asking how to find a qualified Feng Shui Consultant in their area and I’m thrilled that hopefully I have helped generate an interest in Feng Shui. When I signed on to Activerain I was actually surprised to hear the number of people that were unfamiliar with it and to hear of all the misconceptions about it. Today I read Teri's Notes & Anecdotes on Twin Cities Real Estate  post called Outside the Box Thinking Gets Homes SOLD!  I know that many homeowners are using Feng Shui more and more and am thrilled that Real Estate Agents are as well.

Most Feng Shui Practitioners do ‘online’ or phone consultations for clients who live at a distance. People often wonder exactly how this works or if you have to be IN a space to FEEL the energy? They are good questions for sure. Just as each Feng Shui Consultant has their own way of doing things, I do as well so I can only speak for myself—what works for me may very well differ from another’s methods which don’t mean they are wrong. Those of us that have been practicing for a number of years have the opportunity to find out what works best for us—AND our clients.

Energy Feng Shui Long Island New York City

I am often called to do distance consultations; people have found me over the years from my articles and “felt a connection” or were in tune with the way I presented it. More recently I have gotten contacts from Activerain and my posts. I do not accept every potential client in Feng Shui Consultations because I know that they have to put their own work, ENERGY and INTENT into the Consultation as well so it can be Intensified; your Consultant and YOU have to be dedicated to making the recommended changes. Your client also needs to be comfortable with you to share some personal information and follow up with any questions or results.

For myself only, I need to FEEL as if I’m in someone’s space. I ask for pictures—and lots of them! I want to see everything from every angle including the outside. To do this I ask my clients to take pictures. Print pictures because I am going through each and every one of them in detail---I don’t want to miss a thing. I can then see the layout, the furniture placement, the elements and a number of other things we’ve learned to look at with “Feng Shui Eyes.” I can FEEL the Energy (or lack of it) from these pictures and then know best how to help my clients. This involves WORK. They must take the photos, have them printed (two sets, one for each of us) and we spend at least three hours on the phone, going through not only their entire home or office but from the exterior as well.

Energy Feng Shui Long Island New York

I TEACH Feng Shui Principles as well because I believe knowledge is power. Most clients go on confidently to be able to apply this new knowledge into other spaces in their life so they don’t have to call for both their home AND their office. They are also provided with the blessings; as most of you know I do feel they are an essential part of any Feng Shui Consultation and they absolutely do WORK. Sometimes even before any of the changes have been implemented. I have been told on occasion that taking the photos are not something they’re interested in doing either for lack of time or because it’s work. These are the people that may work well with another consultant who practices a different way; it’s also a good indication to me about just how much effort they are going to put into this.

Combined energy is very powerful. Over the years I have seen clients have the same positive results whether they are at a distance or not and I’m sure many Consultants would agree with me on that. I do believe we are ALL connected. I also believe that one day I will somehow meet these lovely client’s I’ve done in person somehow. We have developed a relationship and in most cases, one that lasts!

Feng Shui A New York City Apartment--Working with Small Spaces by Feng Shui Long Island

Feng Shui A New York City Apartment (Manhattan Feng Shui)

I love the challenge of recreating a room...or an office...or a corporation.  But employing Feng Shui Principles into a very small space can be a challenge at times.  We don't want to ask our clients to spend much money, we seek to work with what they have and redesign a room that way.

Some New York City Apartments are large and there is plenty of space while others consist of just ONE room.  In this particular case of working with my client (who graciously allowed me to share her photos with you), we were able to take a very small bedroom and change the energy of the space with color and some Feng Shui elements.

Bedrooms in Feng Shui are used to incorporate "partnerships," both personal and business.  My lovely client had no one special in her life at the time and was also in a position of transitioning to her own business.

The bedroom in the first pictures lacked BALANCE, something we always seek to achieve in Feng Shui and home staging.  In my opinion my client was not "backed up" in life without a headboard and her bed was facing the wrong direction. One side of the bed was also pushed against the wall which didn't allow the room she needed to attract someone new into her life.  While her artwork was absolutely astonishing (and made just for her), it represented ONE.  We were seeking to bring someone new into her life.

Not just anyone either.  In fact while speaking to her I quickly realized that she was as sensitive to another's energy as I am.  Pure heart and soul were put into the changes that she made which intensified her already powerful energy.  And her Intentions were set.

While I will be following up on the rest of her apartment as the changes are made for there, I wanted to show you what a small space can become.  Her bedroom is now a true sanctuary---for both herself and her new partner who is just wonderful.  How I LOVE happy endings!!   Here are some of the changes:

An After Shot:  BALANCE.  My client purchased a headborad and two small tables.  Her bed is now facing the correct way and she has added items of "twos" on her nightstand.

Back to Nature--Central Park in New York City! by Feng Shui Long Island

All Parks, to me, have their own bit of magic.  Some are quiet and offer solitude for thinking through things to find a solution, to just stroll and think of nothing or to clear my head.  They seem to give me a fresh start, a different perspective, new insights that I don't find anywhere else.  Other parks just enliven you by the number of activities that may be going on and the range is quite wide!  It is fun to see people playing, jogging, different sporting activities and I often never know what I'm going to run into.  Some parks have a combination of both and I can choose different parts to spend my time.

I do confess to a favorite park, however.  Central Park has long been my destination on a day off or when I need to overcome an obstacle.  To me and many others there is no place like it in the World. It's perfect for a Feng Shui Consultant in New York City or anyone else who needs to reconnect to NATURE. Central Park in New York City happens to be the first Landscaped Public Park in the United States.  New Yorkers loved the famous Parks of Paris and London and felt New York should also have a first class park.  A contest for an architectural design was held and one was approved in 1853 by noted Architect Frederick Law Olmsted in conjunction with Andrew Jackson Downing for Landscaping and Jacob Wrey Mould who designed the 40 Bridges in the Park.

Seven Hundred acres were originally devoted to Central Park which has since extended to over 843 and 20,000 people were employed to begin work on the Park which opened in 1859.  The original Central Park Zoo was first established in 1871 and the first playground appeared in 1927; there are now more then 20 playgrounds scattered through throughout the Park.  Central Park has been the scene of many movies and is also noted for all the activities it has:  joggers, softball players, disco roller skating, concerts, plays, The Boathouse Restaurant, Tavern on the Green, bird watchers and nature lovers to name just a few.

My last visit was just this month; we hit a record breaking 60 degree day and my first thought was of Central Park.  I was certainly not the only one that thought that!   Enjoy some of my shots from that day and some others and some of the Parks it was modeled after:

The Chinese New Year, Pt 2--Make it Count! by Feng Shui Long Island

Yes, there ARE more things to do for the New Year.  I know, believe me, you don't want to hear it (and I don't blame you) but it's especially important this year and I'll tell you why.

This is the year of the RAT.  It is the FIRST in the twelve cycles of the zodiac that make up Chinese Astrology.  Because it is the first, this is a year of plentiful opportunities and prospects for anyone, no matter what sign you are!  That's some great news for all of us.

Chinese New Year Feng Shui Long Island

It is a wonderful year for starting new projects and making long term investments. So even from a Feng Shui point of view, it's a wonderful year for purchasing that new home; great news to share with your buyers isn't it?

Feng Shui New York City Consultant Chinese New Year

In Western Astrology the Rat is a Sagittarian which means all of us can expect the unexpected---in an unusually good form.  This is also a year relatively free from disruptions so things are more likely to flow.  All in all, it's the perfect time to make some changes you most likely want anyway to release the energy of last year and allow all new, fresh energy to enter.

Some famous people that have been born under the Year of the Rat include Claude Monet, George Washington, William Shakespeare, Mozart, Truman Capote and Irving Berlin.  Pretty impressive list, don't you think?

New York City Feng Shui Consultant Chinese New Year

So NOW what am I asking you to do?  Well, this is what I do; I want to insure a year as wonderful as my last one!

* Try to resolve any disagreements you might have with anyone.  It helps YOU release and resolve for the positive changes to occur.

* I always ask my clients that no matter how difficult life may be to remember all the things they are truly blessed with.  Make a list which infuses the blessings you already have with more, doubling its energy.

* The Chinese RESPECT MONEY.  For women, clean out your handbags, keep your money in your wallet in order.  Remember NOT to ignore signs of Abundance!  If you see a penny and think it's nothing, think again.  To many of us it is a sign of pure Abundance; if you pass the things you perceive as small, the larger ones won't appear!

Long Island Feng Shui Consultant Chinese New Year

* Some people have asked about the Red Envelopes.  While there are many facets to the use of them, one is during the Chinese New Year.  They are primarily given to children and must contain money.  They are considered as Auspicious to the Giver as well as to the Receiver.  Red Envelopes containing Money can also be placed the in the Wealth Area of your home.  (Red Envelopes are becoming so popular that many of the branches of New York's Citibanks now carry them)!  They do NOT have to be Chinese Red Envelopes if you can't find them, OfficeMax carries regular Red Envelopes.

Feng Shui Long Island Consultant Red Envelope* Replace any light bulbs that have burned out.  Light can help intensify the other changes.

Chinese New Year Feng Shui Long Island Consultant

* Remember to open all your blinds and curtains in the morning and close them at night.  Letting the "Outside IN" creates a Yin/Yang balance of the two energies of day and night.  You are starting your New Year with BALANCE.

* Light all four burners on your stove for a few minutes.  In the Black Sect method, this signifies and enhances money.  The stove nourishes your body and the burners signify nourishing your wealth.

Feng Shui Manhattan Consultant, Chinese New Year

* This is a wonderful time to Smudge your home.  For those of you unfamiliar with this, it is smudging...much like Native Americans do for healing; Feng Shui Consultants can use sage and walk through your home with it burning, while being mindful of all the things you'd like to come into your life.  It helps to re-energize a space and rid it of any negativity over the last year.  (I have found that pure Sage is best).

ALL the BEST to ALL OF YOU FOR A WONDERFUL NEW YEAR!

* If you have a Home/Office where you generate work, you might want to look for one more post to make this your best year, ever!

The Chinese New Year, 2008 is Coming! What YOU should know....by Feng Shui Long Island

We will be ringing in the New Year on February 7th, 2008.  The CHINESE New Year, a very Auspicious Day for many.  Every year I do a special mailing and strongly suggest to my clients that they follow the relatively simple things on the list I've provided....and every year I get the most wonderful feedback from them; they believe doing these simple and inexpensive things have helped and so do I.

Feng Shui Long Island Consultant

Because I am adding to the list this year, I am putting this post in parts.  (Believe me I've read enough posts telling me to keep it short and to the point).  And I TRY-which doesn't mean I succeed.  It is important to me that I relay the information correctly...

I do follow all these things myself and I do believe they help a great deal in the year we are projecting for ourselves.  So I've added again to the list for this year and I will also include information for those that have a home/office as well.  They generate money and clients and are very valuable rooms in our homes!

One note:  I have a wide variety of clients.  Most of them take the suggestions I make and do make the changes and report success.  And I have other clients that literally put their heart and soul and INTENTION into each and every change, keeping in mind what they want to attract back (The Law of Attraction).  These are the people that report the BEST news---they and their energies are fully engaged and they are focused on what they want to achieve.  For years I have been writing that ENERGY FOLLOWS INTENT. If you want the Energy to change, keep your intentions focused.  Here's to the BEST 2008 for All of you!

If at all possible, pay down your credit cards and bills prior to the Chinese New Year.  Try to start the year off with as little debt as possible.  If we want to start a clean slate, this is one of the best ways to do so.

* CLEAN. Clean out dust, clear out the cobwebs (from your home as well as your thoughts) and start the new year with a different environment.  The very act of cleaning helps to energize your surroundings!

Long Island Feng Shui Consultant Chinese New Year

* At the risk of repeating myself (over and over again) it does mean clear out that clutter.  Remember the rule of clutter:  If you don't need it, use it or LOVE it, get rid of it.  Pass it along to someone who will be very grateful to have it.

* Make some changes. They could be changes in your routine, changes in your thoughts or physical changes.  New Years and New Beginnings mean a new way of doing things, disregarding things that aren't working for us and incorporating or trying new things that may.  It's time to be truly open to change to allow the new energy IN.

* Fruit to Feng Shui Consultants signifies Abundance....Abundance in ALL areas.  Put a bowl of fruit out on your kitchen and/or dining room tables to signify the abundance that is sure to follow. You can eat them the day after New Years, not before!

Feng Shui New York Consultant Carole Provenzale

* Add fresh flowers.  They not only are pure "Chi" (Energy) but they actually can help change the energy in a space with the use of colors that signify elements as well...make sure you get a few red flowers in the bunch.  Some people put them in one room; some put a small bunch in many rooms.  (Last year I bought quite a few, they gave my home a lovely feeling).

* Sweep the kitchen floor as close to midnight as possible. It symbolizes letting go of the old and putting it right outside.

Chinese New Year

* If you are home on the New Year, burn a candle.  Blow it out as close to Midnight as possible with your wishes and Intentions for the New Year in place.  Celebrate this night as if it were a birthday.

Feng Shui Candles

* Finally, open the doors and windows as close to midnight or at midnight if possible.  We are welcoming in not only a New Year but also new hope and new beginnings!

These things don't take very long and don't cost much money at all but it's a wonderful way to start any new year and let go of the previous year, particularly if you had struggles or difficulties.  Now that you've cleaned out your home, let go of old thoughts that no longer benefit you.  We need room for all the new, wonderful energy that you are attracting!

*For additional changes that I myself am incorporating into this year, please visit my next post.

Retiring BACK to Long Island and New York City? Are You NUTS? by Feng Shui Long Island

NEW YORK CITY.  You either love it or you hate it.  I recall many years ago as one after another neighbor starting leaving my old block when growing up in Wantagh, Long Island.  They'd had it with the ever escalating prices and taxes and the winters were just too difficult.  Most went South, to warmer weather and a few went out west to Arizona, ready to relax and retire comfortably.

Those have always been my thoughts as well.  The winters her can get more difficult and I have much less of a tolerance to the cold.  But the rest of the year on Long Island?  Well, in a word it's fabulous.  I've heard it twice in one week of people retiring back to Long Island and New York City and it doesn't surprise me a bit.  I have the feeling if I left, I'd miss it more then I can imagine.

One person who was retiring in just a few years had moved from New York City to Orlando and had lived there for almost ten years.  She is a client I just had the opportunity to meet during a Feng Shui consultation of her New York City apartment in Midtown, Manhattan.  She had formerly lived in the City when warmer weather and lower prices beckoned.  There wasn't a day she said that went by that she didn't miss the Energy of New York City.  Her neighbors in Florida thought she was nuts to come back but both she and her husband were both thrilled to "be home."  "There is NOTHING like New York City" she said to me-and I have to agree; I love it there myself.

While out with some friends the other night there was one I hadn't seen in many years, visiting from Georgia.  It's been many years since she's left Long Island, her former home and she misses it.  She loves her house and her property in Georgia but longs to come back.  A comment another friend made to her hit a nerve in me:  "Really, what nicer place is there to be than Long Island in the Spring, Summer and Fall"? she asked.  I knew instantly she was right.

They are aware of the increase in price; my New York City clients gave up a four bedroom home for a studio in Tudor City in New York. Their friends in Orland think they have gone mad.  They are currently renting and looking to see if they will be able to afford a one bedroom in an area they love.  My friend would have to make financial sacrifices as well but she longs to come back to the Island for its beauty and the proximity to New York City.

Hearing this twice in one week made me stop to think about long ago and my mother's neighbors, how they missed their old homes and neighborhood.  I realized that while many of us struggle financially to stay on Long Island or in Manhattan when we could live life a little easier somewhere else, we don't want to leave here.  We love it.  You can take a person out of New York but they will always be a New Yorker at heart.

MILESTONES and MEMORIES--They are Priceless! by Feng Shui Long Island

Feng Shui Long Island ConsultantMilestones.  It's funny that we can't remember all of ours but I have profound memories of all my children's milestones and was fortunate to be there to see almost every single one of them.  Actually, my son's first steps were caught on our video camera.  We were filming outside that day and got his very first steps on tape.  You can still hear the thrills of our voices on it.

My daughter was speech delayed and while I don't have her first words on video, I remember it SO clearly.  I had determined that this child had gotten away with pointing too long and if she wanted something, she was going to have to ASK for it...and when I finally won, it was because she desperately wanted Cheerios (which came out something like Cheero).  It wasn't Mama or Dada but she was talking!

Back at 100,000 points I posted about having a small write up (actually a note of recognition I wrote to someone was published) in Woman's Day.  She was someone who first told me of Feng Shui and encouraged me to look into it.  I was hoping Deborah Rose would find the article or my post:

100,000 Points and One HECK of a Journey: DETERMINATION....A Feng Shui Story

Instead, I had this shocking email come to me; it was from my long lost cousin who had moved away 14 years ago and we had lost contact not long after.

You Can't Always Get What You WANT.....by Feng Shui Long Island

I did not know how she was doing or what she'd been doing for many years.  She did not know I had become a Feng Shui Consultant although she has an interest in it--and just happened to be reading Woman's Day Magazine that morning.

I had the absolute blessing of reconnecting with family just over the holidays.  I not only got to see my cousin but her husband and daughter along with her sister (another cousin) and her husband.  I thought to have it at my mother's house so she could see them as well and my other Aunt and my children showed up.  It was a wonderful reunion and you would have thought we'd all seen each other yesterday!  My children were able to meet their second cousin and we've even discussed trying to get the entire family together for a whole reunion.  What a nice thought!  I was very close to my cousin Mary, we have stayed at each other's houses growing up and while we remembered some of the same things, we also had some different memories of so many occasions it was difficult to fit it into the day...They were only visiting here from Virginia.

When I hit ‘submit' on this post, it should be my 200th post....another milestone.  And I wonder what I had to SAY through so many posts.  But I couldn't think of anything nicer to post  then a reunion with someone I love so much....Thank you, Couz; and Thank YOU, Activerain for allowing me to post this!

Come to the US Open in 2009 in Bethpage, Long Island! by Feng Shui Long Island

Long Island Feng Shui Consultant Carole ProvenzaleCome to The US Open in Bethpage, Long Island!  The pictures here will tell the story of this lovely place, Bethpage State Park.

It has recently been announced that once again Long Island, New York will host the 2009 US Open at its famed Bethpage Golf Course at Bethpage State Park in Farmingdale, Long Island, New York.  This beautiful and challenging golf course and  State Park is so large it extends into both Nassau and Suffolk Counties and borders the towns of Farmingdale, Bethpage, Old Bethpage and Plainview.

We were thrilled to have the US Open held here in 2002 at their famous BLACK COURSE which was designed by architect   A. W. Tillinghast  and is one of the most challenging courses in the Country with it's narrow fairways, high roughs, well placed borders and small greens.  Some consider this his finest work.  This historic building was opened in 1932 and in addition to the huge expanse of golf is home to two restaurants, one of which is The Oak Room which has won awards and a wonderful catering facility at which many events are held including weddings (call early to book!).  Every year The Bethpage State Park caters an event for all members of the Department of Parks and Recreation at this lovely site.  Two years ago they hosted one that was about Wholistic Health and I was included as a presenter along with many other modalities of all natural healing.

They were kind enough to allow me to share these photos of this Bethpage State Park.  In addition to golf, they also have picnic facilities, tennis courts, brindle paths, hiking, biking and cross country skiing along with a beautiful nature trail.

Tiger Woods won the 2002 US Open on the very difficult black course and it's no surprise.  Tiger says he always wears RED when playing an Open because it provides him with the Energy he needs to WIN (sound familiar?). I just could be that he knows a thing or two about Feng Shui.  I'm sure many of us are looking for a win from him again!  In addition to several large hotel chains, be advised that some people's homes back up to the course; in 2002 some actually rented out their backyards or parts of their homes to the many visitors from all over the country who attended.

If you'd like information about booking an event or about the US Open, please feel free to call them at (516) 249-0701.  Enjoy some of the pictures of this fabulous place.  Here's a Tour with the pictures telling the story:
