It was beautiful out today. And I had the day to get out and have some fun (finally!). A choice to clean the house, try and fix the garden or just go out and play. You have to know #3 won hands down but I needed the down time.
I went to Freeport in Long Island, New York. Spring and Summer are really the only time to go there and it's lovely, like a little seaside tourist town. A few fun facts about the Freeport Nautical Mile: It was originally a stars and artists colony and many of the streets are named after famous people who lived there such as Guy Lombardo who came in 1940 and stayed until his death.
The first outboard powered boat to cross the Atlantic was made in Freeport and is listed in the Guiness Book of World Records. And something I didn't know, it's the second largest Village in the State of New York. in the Town of Hempstead. Mostly it's just fun, great seafood restaurants, lovely little seaside shops and even a boat you can take and go gambling on (once you get far enough away). Other than Long Beach, I can't think of another place like it on Long Island.
Here's some pictures I took of this FUN place, day and night the music is playing and the atmosphere is terrific.
That boat looks kind of small!
A Monument called "Spash"
If you want FRESH Seafood, you can't do better then Freeport!
The End of the mile and the beginning of Beautiful VIEWS.
A good place to just think...
A great Mini Golf, added just a few years ago
I saw this place AFTER we ate....I'm heading there next time, it looks like a Tiki Bar :)
Another reason to come to Long Island in the Summer...Visit the Beautiful Nautical Mile in Freeport, Long Island, New York and bring your appetite with you!
